Chapter 55: Ask For the Age of Future Wife
"Will you marry me?"
Song Yongrui was speechless. He hadn't once thought she would ask for something like that. It was so random that he was caught off guard.
Song Yongrui was blushing till his neck, when he let himself fall down from his chair. He had been leaning backward precariously, but falling was something he hadn't done in a very long time, especially with his cheetah-like reflexes.
Instantly, thousands of thoughts ran through his mind.
He knew that she was Bai Jingfei, the prime minister's daughter but not much more. He had basically been charmed by her, back when they had burnt down the prison, but marriage was far too sudden for them.
"How old are you?" he said, deciding to figure things out slowly. He slowly lifted himself up after taking a few deep breaths and calming down.
Bai Jingfei had expected a yes or no answer, not a question in return. Either way she had to answer the man. She knew this point might bring up problems for a future marriage but she was willing to try anyway.
"I'm sixteen-" she began.
The rush and pitter patter of footsteps were heard rushing toward the room as Sun Mei ran after hearing Bai Jingfei's voice. Behind her was a huffing Song Zihao, who was evidently displeased with Sun Mei ditching him, when he was supposed to be her tour guide.
Sun Mei only had one thought as she heard Bai Jingfei tell him her age.
'That bastard, trash man, scum! He's hitting on FeiFei!'
She was technically correct but mostly incorrect. FeiFei was the one hitting on him. He was just making a logical and informed decision.
One must know the age of their future wife.
"She's sixteen! You pedophile!" cut in Sun Mei's voice. After wandering around the large house with Song Zihao, they'd finally reached the room where Bai Jingfei and Song Yongrui were having their discussion.
The room fell silent as a huffing Song Zihao caught up and walked into the room after Sun Mei.
Song Zihao turned to Sun Mei and yelled back. "Well my brother is only nineteen. If anyone is a pedophile, it's you!" he shouted as he caught up to Sun Mei.
Sun Mei was extremely confused with his logic but decided he wasn't her first priority. Right now she had to separate the small and innocent Bai Jingfei from these gangsters.
Little did she know, that Bai Jingfei was the biggest gangster of them all.
"FeiFei, come here. Don't talk to that bad man."
"MeiMei…" whispered Bai Jingfei, pleased that Sun Mei was calling her FeiFei, "I'll be right there."
She got to her feet and scuttled herself toward Sun Mei, and into her arms. Sun Mei gave Song Yongrui a triumphant grin. She wrapped her arms around Bai Jingfei, as if to say, 'Look! The girl you like, likes me better!'
She was very much successful. Song Yongrui was jealous.
Song Yongrui sighed, and stood up.
He was slightly jealous that Bai Jingfei had run over to Sun Mei without a shred of hesitation, but soon realized he was being childish. He walked over to Sun Mei who had Bai Jingfei in her arms.
He stretched his arm out and patted Bai Jingfei's shoulder, with his 30th sigh of the day. Now he was worried he was morphing into an old man.
He leaned in, to whisper to Bai Jingfei, just loud enough for Sun Mei to hear.
"I'll come find you when you're 18. Be patient till then."
Bai Jingfei nodded vigorously and turned her head up to look at Sun Mei with a wide smile. Sun Mei felt her heart melting, looking at Bai Jingfei's smile but knew she couldn't fall weak yet.
"You shameless man! She is a child! Just look at her."
Song Zihao evidently wasn't all that happy with how she spoke to his brother. He frowned and yelled back, "She's sixteen! She could've had a child by now!"
Back then, people got married at young and tender ages, but Sun Mei's family had never believed in that. She got upset, but she had no way to refute Song Zihao.
For the first time, Song Zihao got a glance at Bai Jingfei. He was instantly shocked.
"Heavenly doctor Ming's student? You're going to be my sister-in-law?" He turned to his brother with a frown, "Look at her, she's so small. Brother, I cannot support this."
Song Yongrui was speechless, as his brother turned against him, with one look at Bai Jingfei. He had sent his brother to study medicine under heavenly doctor Ling, as Song Zihao had no stamina or strength.
Luckily he had a talent for identifying pressure points, and thus he began studying acupuncture under the heavenly doctor, and became a valuable asset to the Jianghu.
Every heavenly doctor had a different skill. Bai Jingfei was studying under heavenly doctor Ming, thus she had learnt pill and potion making. Alchemy, if you wanted to be fancy.
If he were to marry Bai Jingfei, she too would be a valuable asset. Pill making was the medical field with the most profits after all.
Now he had convinced himself of a "good reason" to marry Bai Jingfei, that would just turn out to be an excuse later. It wasn't bad though, he could show her off proudly in front of the rest of the Jianghu.
"You don't have to support anything." said Song Yongrui coldly. It was as if he was saying 'I will marry her either way'.
Upon hearing his words and taking a good look at his face, Sun Mei groaned and dragged Bai Jingfei out of the room like a toddler.
"FeiFei, nothing good will come out of interacting with the Jianghu, let alone their boss."
Bai Jingfei let out a little giggle and hugged Sun Mei back. She looked like a teenager, newly in love, cheeks flushed and smiling like an idiot.
"FeiFei!" yelled Sun Mei, "Why are you daydreaming?"
"MeiMei... I'm going to marry that man."
