Jake
Mike was driving towards the location while he sat in the passenger seat with Elena sitting in the back.
The air in the car had been tense because of the latest development.
A lot of things were running through his mind and he knew Mike also wanted to know how Elena knew about the devices from the way his eyes kept darting to the rear mirror. He sighed in relief when Mike cleared his throat to speak first.
" So… are you guys together now?" Jake's head whipped to him not expecting the question. He kept quiet for a moment knowing Mike would just keep bothering them if he didn't get an answer soon.
He turned his head to reply when Elena spoke first.
" No." She said not sparing him a glance. He could feel her withdrawing again and he couldn't help but feel frustrated. He thought they had finally gotten somewhere but maybe it was just him.
" So what happened in the kitchen….."
"...… was nothing and it's none of your business!"
Elena cut Mike off when he tried to pry again and he was mad. Not because Mike pried but because she had labelled what happened between them as nothing.
Jake turned to her, his eyes blazing with anger.
"Nothing? Did you just say it was nothing?" He didn't care about the device anymore. He didn't care that there was someone else in the car with them. All he wanted to know was if she considered his feelings and what they had almost done as nothing.
Elena stared back at him, her mouth opened slightly with no words coming out. He could see the truth in her eyes but he wanted her to say it out loud. Her gaze flickered outside the window for a second, and when she looked back at him, he knew.
Jake knew she was going to deny him. She had closed him off again.
" We're here Mike. Stop the car." Elena said finally not shifting her gaze from him till Mike stopped the car and she went out of the car as quickly as she could. With thoughts stumbling through his head, he missed the lone tear that fell on her face as she walked away.
Mike turned to him and spoke carefully.
" I know this might be the wrong time to say this but focus that anger on finding the person spying on you. It might even be the stress getting to Elena as well because I know what I saw in that kitchen earlier and it was not nothing.
I know it's messed up that she denied you like that but imagine being in her shoes, Jake. She was supposed to protect you and she finds out someone has been spying on you.
She doesn't even know what we know yet so let's finish what we came here for and find time to settle what's going on between you okay? "
Jake sighed knowing he was right and nodded his head. He would finish his mission here and get her alone to settle what was going on. He would get her back even if he had to tie her up.
He turned to mike and smirked.
" I didn't know you had it in you to be so mushy." He replied knowing it would piss him off but assuring him he was okay.
" Shut up and let's go after Elena before we lose her." Mike flipped him off before getting out of the car, going after Elena with Jake trailing after him.
They walked towards the apartment Elena had entered and Jake realized it was just 10 minutes from his place as he took a glance at his watch.
The person must have been sent from the organization and must have been spying on them for more than a week or two. He turned to share his thoughts with Mike when a gunshot rang through the air.
All thoughts fled from his head at that moment as he shared a glance with Mike.
Not again.
Ashley
Her eyes widened as the gun fell from his hand. There was blood everywhere and could hear her head ringing.
She had killed him.
If she had reacted a little longer, she would have been dead or Jake and Mike would have been here and captured him alive which was way worse.
A loud bang went through the air as the door flew open and she quickly cocked her gun again, ready to pull the trigger.
She sighed in relief when she realized it was just Jake and dropped her hand down. She watched Jake give glance at the body on the floor before rushing to her, checking her body for any wounds while Mike inspected the body and the room.
" Are you okay Elena?" Jake asked still checking her for wounds before his eyes finally settled on the side of her head. Great! He was so mad at her that he was avoiding contact with her.
" I'm fine. Stop fussing around." She rolled her eyes at him.
" There's blood running down the side of your head Elena and you think I'm fussing?" Oh! She heard Mike chuckle across the room still searching the room. She ignored him and touched the side of her head that Jake had been staring at and she found out it was wet with blood.
Guess he wasn't ignoring her after all.
" I didn't know. It must have been when he hit me when I entered the room." She replied wincing slightly. She realized that was the reason her head was ringing.
" How? You're always careful." She winced again as she tried rolling her eyes again.
" He's a spy! what did you think?" She saw him glare at Mike as he chuckled again.
Ashley moved to the other side of the room to help Mike with his search. She was going through the small bag under the single bed in the room when her eyes widened.
" Guys check this out." Her heart thundered.
