Chapter 104: Research progress!

// I'm back!

Sorry for the delay but I was incredibly busy this past week and only today, because of some holiday, I got a moment of a breather...

Anyway I hope you like it and like always EEEENJOY!

//

Starfall sat on a sofa in the living room, sipping on tea and talking in a pleasant atmosphere with Fluttershy and Twilight.

It was a pretty peaceful day, and the ponies simply enjoyed their time, as there were no immediate city destroying threats or big events to take notice off.

Fluttershy was just telling Starfall and Twilight about her birds and bees...which Starfall realised was an extremely convoluted and unnecessary ploy to send him a message that she wanted the 'D'... when Spike waked into the room, wearing a slightly distraught expression.

He plopped onto the sofa with his head down deep in thought, not even acknowledging the ponies who watched the little dragon act out of character.

"Hey Spike... Is something bothering you?" Asked Starfall after a moment, finally waking the little dragon from his absentmindedness.

"Oh...Dad...No, it's nothing...I'm just worried about Sweetie Belle..." He muttered.

"Did something happen?" Asked Twilight with a bit of concern in her voice.

Spike shrugged.

"I'm not sure, Though from the short conversation we had earlier, I deduced she had a falling out with her sister or something...She seemed really sad about it..."Spike explained.

"Wouldn't it have been better then if you stayed to keep her company?" Asked Starfall to which Spike shook his head.

"She run away before I realised, apparently intending to join the Sisterhooves social, though I'm not sure how she wanted to do it without Rarity..." He said, and Starfall remembered that episode from the show, wondering whether he should do anything... He wasn't sure if it was going to happen the same like in the show though...

He finally decided to just let it play out and see what happens... He doesn't really care about keeping the timeline intact, which was apparent by all the changes that already happened, but if the two sisters still quarreled, maybe this one would play out how it did in canon...

"Well, maybe you should go look for her then? I'm sure they aren't going to fight for long, but having somepony close to Sweetie Belle be by her side surely wouldn't be a bad call." He winked at Spike who perked up.

"You're right! Why am I worrying here when I should be by the side of my marefri-...uhh...my friend!"Spike said standing up and quickly correcting himself before he could say something embarrassing, which he didn't succeed judging by the amused expression of the three ponies in the room.

"Okay Casanova. Just make sure to get back before midnight and take care." Twilight said as a red faced Spike dashed out of the Library to the amusement of the trio.

"...I hope he can cheer her up..." Fluttershy whispered after a moment of looking at the door.

"...Should we follow him?"Twilight added and Starfall shook his head.

"It's ok, I'm sure he'd be able to cheer her up if she even needs it." Starfall said giving the other two a reassuring smile.

"...They are so cute together..."Fluttershy said with a warm smile that everyone shared.

"Yeah... But I still can't believe my Spikey got himself a herd at such a young age...I blame the father..." She mock pouted at Starfall who gave her a sheepish grin.

"They fit well together and are all happy. I see no problem there if you ask me... Right Fluttershy?" He said with amusement suddenly turning to the yellow Pegasus, causing her to yelp from being suddenly asked.

"I-I...Think they do mesh well..." She finally said and Twilight sighed.

"You're right...I guess I'm just jealous for them realising their feelings so early..." She looked at Starfall with squinted eyes, but there was no anger in her aura.

Starfall rolled his eyes and pecked her on the lips by surprise.

"He had been watching our romantic tension almost his entire life, Love. It's no wonder he didn't want to wait as long as we..." He said, making Twilight realise that it was most likely the truth...

Not much happened for the rest of the day.

Sweetie Belle and Rarity reconciled their differences, Spike received a kiss from his Fillyfriend for cheering her up, while Fluttershy finally got what she wanted in the form of something much more than a simple massage, Starall enjoying it just as much as she did despite being very gentle, while Twilight watched from the side bound in ropes for trying to make Fluttershy try BDSM.

He wouldn't accept her trying to corrupt his pure Fluttershy, so she needed punishment...

Yes, life was good...

"Dad! We're going to the bowling alley!"Called out Spike in the presence of the three Cutie Mark Crusaders, as Starfall was about to go into his Lab.

"Alright! Have fun kids!" He called back waving at them as they smiled and dashed out of the Library.

With no further interruptions, Starfall descended the stairs and walked into his spatial research chamber.

The portal Prototypes already stood ready, their size reduced, thanks to the new insights he got after their last explosion...

'I should probably start with a check-up of the rune matrix...' He thought, moving onto reading through the ingrained marks visible on the surface of the portal rings.

He spend over an hour looking for mistakes, and another hour in making observations and corrections.

A recent new addition to his research had been a certain magic mirror, which, while not exactly what he was looking for, still worked on the principle of spatial transportation, albeit on a more trans dimensional level.

The mirror was to be honest, a work of art, mixed with a lot of luck...The creator was a genius, that's for sure. He or she didn't have access to the complete repository of magical language which Starfall was the author of, yet he managed to create a stable portal to another dimension with only a single flaw of working for only a few days every few months because of the mix-up in the charging mechanic.

It even had an effect of transforming you into the most inconspicuous race that fits you on the other side... truly genius...

And a well of information that was proving to be extremely valuable in the creation of his portals...Funny how hard it is to make a portal to work on its own, when a personal portal artifact already existed...

but...

*ZZWHOSHZZ*

"...This ...This should work... Ha...Haha..HAHAHAHA-"

*bang*

"-Owch!" Starfall cried out os a hoof slapped him on the back of his head.

"Please Cease your evil laughter Love... It's unbecoming of a Prince." Said Twilight in amusement as Starfall turned to see who had the gals of interrupting his triumphant moment.

"Ah...Sorry..." He said sheepishly, recognising that he won't win this fight...

"So...Is it finished?" She asked and Starfall smiled.

"Yes. I believe it is." He said taking out a ball of chaos magic out of a box containment unit.

Twilight involuntarily took a step back.

"Don't worry. It shouldn't explode this time... Probably..." He reassured her, whispering the last part under his muzzle...

Twilight took another step back to Starfall's exasperation.

"Alright. Go hide if you don't trust me. I'll start the test myself." He said and placed the ball on the rail leading towards the first portal.

For all intent and purposes, the portal looked like a circular hole showing the other side of the room from the perspective of the second portal. There was no membrane of energy, nor any special magical effects unlike the last time. And that was good. Starfall felt that such a portal was much more stable than those rifts in space with an irregular glowing edge. No, this portal worked perfectly and he knew it.

The ball of chaos magic rolled down the rail, and he didn't even move from his spot.

"Umm...Starfall?...Get out of there..." Twilight said noticing his behaviour.

"It will work..." He just said, and Twilight was now getting worried...but before she could say anymore, her eyes opened wide as the sphere reached the portal and... rolled out of the second one with no visible problem...

Starfall grinned, before finally laughing.

"Ha! It works! it actually works! a perfect portal! can you see Twily! and it uses barely any power to keep itself active!" He excitedly said as his Marefriend approached him with an amused but proud smiled.

"Yes. I can see it Love. Just watch out or you'll break the floor in all this excitement."She chastised him good-naturedly before kissing him on the lips.

They stayed like this for a moment longer before Twilight looked at him with a glint in her eyes.

"And speaking of being finished..."She grinned, pulling Starfall out of the Spatial Lab and in the direction of another one...

"Did you..." He asked surprised and Twilight grinned.

"Mhm. Whooves and I had to make over seven different totally unmagical tools, which we can easily patent and sell by the way, to get into that meteorite and break it into smaller pieces without damaging it's properties! You wouldn't believe it but it actually works more efficiently in smaller fragments!" She explained leading him into the chamber.

Starfall was really surprised with what Twilight just told him, but the sight inside the chamber was even more impressive.

Multiple different tools laid scattered to the sides. Chisels, drills, polishers, and even laser cutters and some industrial blacksmiths tools could be seen alongside other magical and non-magical equipment, everything surroundings an impressive center piece of truly amazing machinery.

It was built on the basis of a gyroscope with multiple rings building it, and on those rings mounted could be seen balls made of what he assumed to be the meteorite. the center point made out of a single large crystal shone with an impressive amount of magic constantly created be the rings. The rings themselves were not attached to eachother, and their surface was covered in runes that weren't inferior to the ones present on his recently finished portals!

"Woah! It's amazing Twily! I can already tell that it works many times better than my original magic generator! And you didn't even use half the material I can tell!" Starfall exclaimed truly impressed with her work.

Twilight blushed from the praises but was very happy to be recognised by her Starfall.

"T-Thank you..It was a lot of work, that's for sure." She agreed, before getting a mischievous expression.

"But it's not all I wanted to show you." She said before walking over to a wall and pushing onto an inconspicuous part of it which slid inside, revealing itself to be a secret switch.

The entire wall then opened, revealing a part of the lab previously hidden from prying eyes, and what it contained...were more magic generators! Dozens of them! Along with a bunch of smaller meteorite spheres not attached to anything, and being most likely used for research. It was worth noting though that these ones were not inscribed with runes and were clearly inactive.

"This..." Starfall watched everything in amazement as Twilight smiled.

"We made a lot of them, knowing how you'd most likely want them to power up your portals. But we didn't finish them as we were still working on figuring out the best enchantments." She said looking back at the larger generator, before looking back at Starfall with a grin.

"Also I know you'd love to look through our research, and I'm sure we'd find a lot of new improvements when working together."She added winking at Starfall.

He nodded in appreciation and kissed Twilight.

"This is amazing Twily. You really did a good job." He praised her causing Twilight to shudder in glee. She didn't want to wait anymore and without a warning lunged at the Stallion intent on taking him right here and now...

"Hey Twilight, have you seen my-"Whooves walked into the room, but when he saw what was going on inside, he quickly turned around..."I'll...come back later..."He said as his eyes met with a pair of large yellow eyes of Owlowiscious who as it appears had been watching the adult play for far longer than he even was in the room...

"Umm...you wanna come with me?" He asked as the owl continued looking at him unblinkingly...

"Who..." Hooted the owl and Whooves laughed awkwardly...He really felt disturbed by this owl... She knew too much...

He decided to leave the owl to watch the show or something, and went to focus on his current research...
