Chapter 4: Chapter 3: Bet
As the newly formed basketball team waited outside the student council room, a few minutes later, their club advisor Ono Mihano came out from the Student Council Room.
"Its done here you go, your club also have allocated budget but if you guys misuse your budget, I will close this club immediately" Mihano said.
"Yes, Mihano-sensei" Tanaka replied.
*Tack!
Mihano lightly smacked Tanaka's head, "Its Ono-sensei, anyway, your clubroom is located bear the basketball gym, here is the key, go clean it up, I will check it later, I will go now, I still need to fix up your schedule." she said then left.
"Thank you Sensei" Tanaka bowed a little as a form of respect then turned towards his teammates.
"Lets go" He said then went towards their club room.
Arriving on their clubroom, Tanaka opened the door and entered inside, it was the standard size of a clubroom with 8 lockers, it also had a bench in the middle, a shower room, and also their jerseys.
It was really quite big for a co-ed school but since Ousai was once a prestigious all girls school, it was probably normal?
Well, Tanaka and his group doesnt mine and started cleaning due to the clubroom not being used for a long time.
It took them quite a few minutes but it was easy to clean the clubroom, after that, they each took their own locker.
Tanaka took the one at the end, since it was the one he really liked, he found lost panties there, that was a sign of luck.
After that, they rested for a while waiting for Mihano-sensei since they could not use the gym without the schedule and the teacher permission.
So they decided to get know more each other.
"So who among you guys have played basketball?" Tanaka asked.
"I played a little" Asahi replied.
"Same" Tatasuo raised his hand.
"My mother taught me how to play basketball" Sora said.
"I like to play basketball" Akagi replied.
"I haven't played basketball yet" Kenma said.
"Hmm, Welp, there is no use judging you guys right now, but we will have a 3 vs 3 later so I could know how you guys play, since we dont have a coach, me and Hiruma are in charge of our training" Tanaka said.
"Okay" No one disagreed.
It didnt take long for Mihano-sensei to come though.
"Here is your schedule, but since the school have two basketball court, the school decided to divide the gym for you guys, just put the net on the middle, also get along with the girls okay? as for the ball, just get some on the storage room, as for your uniforms, that will be for later since I will give your budget later, then another thing is dont forget your studies just because you play sports, that is all, Do you all understand!" Mihano sensei said.
"Yes~" All of them replied, after Mihano sensei was satisfied, she left.
The boys then changed their clothes to casual ones where they will feel comfortable, then proceeded towards the gym.
The gym was a big one where it was for basketball players, as for the volleyball, they have their own gym.
Tanaka and the group greeted the female basketball players and introduced themselves, they didnt dare to get close to them since females in this school somewhat disgust men or maybe they were brainwashed by their seniors? they didnt really care.
Before they started, they did some stretching, it was very important according to Hiruma, he may looked like a devil but he really take his job seriously, after that, they started the 3 vs 3 match.
"Lets make a bet" Tanaka said.
"What bet?" Hiruma asked, the others were also curious.
"Hiruma will be the judge and the most talented player you think of, will be the Captain of the team, how is that?" Tanaka said.
"Kekeke, that is great idea!" Hiruma laughed.
"We dont mind" Everyone also replied, since they dont have a coach nor their advisor could help them.
No one wants to be under a unskilled player, even if they haven't played that much.
"Lets arrange the team then" Hiruma said.
Team A:
Kenma
Tanaka
Asahi
Team B:
Sora
Tatsuo
Akagi
Even though the height was slightly unfair, Tatsuo was slightly taller than Asahi while Akagi was the tallest, Tanaka was also a little tall but he was as tall as Tatsuo.
Kenma and Sora are both small so of course they were put against each other.
The ball was given to team A since they lost in height and Tanaka's teammate both doesnt have that much knowledge in basketball.
The game is up to 21 points, 1 point for every inside shots and 2 points for over the three point line and was a whole court since Hiruma wanted to see their stamina and other stuffs.
Kenma was the point guard of the team since Tanaka from Tanaka's perspective, Kenma has good awareness and strategy.
Asahi was an athletic type, he showed his good jumping ability in the stretching earlier.
Kenma dribbled the ball albeit a little clumsy, it was enough, Tanaka positioned himself a little bit and wanted to see how good Kenma's awareness and passing ability was.
The one guarding Tanaka was Akagi, this man was very tall and muscled for a middle school student, but Tanaka was confident, the moment he saw an opening he immediately ran and left Akagi who was inferior in terms of speed.
Kenma noticed this and immediately passed, it was a strong pass with no control so Tanaka had to adjust himself to catch the ball, he then made a shooting form.
Tatsuo who was near and Akagi who chased after Tanaka saw this and immediately went for the block leaving Asahi free, Tanaka smirked and immediately passed the ball towards Asahi.
Asahi caught the ball and shot the ball, Akagi who has long arms tried to contest but he was late , Asahi made an easy free throw line shot and the score now was 1 : 0
Tanaka was satisfied that Asahi made the shot but it was still not the best and was very risky.
The ball then went to Team B, Sora was the one holding the ball and the his other two teammates were also looking for opportunity.
Tanaka didn't put up his full defense, and let them show their skills, Sora looked around and noticed Kenma was slow.
He first passed the ball to Tatsuo who caught the ball and immediately passed it back to Sora who caught the ball.
He then dribbled in front of Kenma and did a crossover, he easily went past Kenma and was faced by Asahi who was guarding Tatsuo.
Sora did a between the legs and confused Asahi by leaning his body to the right a little which Asahi fell for and fully committed on that side.
This gave enough space for Sora to get pass from Asahi.
Tanaka smiled as he saw Sora's move, 'this kid is showing off' Tanaka thought, he then decided to show this kid a little bit about his basketball skills.
As Sora got pass he faced up Tanaka who was looking at him with a kind smile, but Sora felt different, he was feeling pressured, it was like he was facing off a tall wall that could never be broken.
But he wanted to show off his skills and maybe become the captain and so he forced his way.
He jumped for a lay up and he saw a hand going to block him, Sora turned his body and tried to get away from the hand but it seemed like the hand saw everything and slapped the ball away from his hand.
*Bam!
The ball flew off and was caught by Asahi who was behind him, Asahi immediately rushed towards the other side, Kenma was just too slow to do a fast lay up.
But even with his speed, a figure caught up to him who was Tatsuo, Asahi looked around and saw Tanaka who was just behind him.
He immediately passed the ball in which Tanaka caught, he stopped just a few inches away from the free throw line and made a shot.
*Swoosh!
It went in and the score was 3:0, Tanaka turned around and looked at his soon to be teammates with kind smile but they felt he was mocking them.
The match continued and this time, Sora didnt force his way, he wanted to show off earlier but now, he noticed that Tanaka was the greatest threat and he could not be careless.
He played with his team this time.
Hiruma who was watching by the side felt this team was bad, only Tanaka showed the best performance so far, while the others knew how to dribble and shoot, they lacked the basics.
Even though Hiruma was not an avid fan of basketball, he still knew some things since he studied things about basketball and all he could say about the team was they were probably the worst team he had seen.
Kenma was unathletic, he was already tired from going back and forth from the court, Asahi was good but he doesnt have any basketball IQ, while all of the team B dont have team work, and they also lacked some areas.
Still, Hiruma did his job seriously and wrote these things down on a new notebook, he will show these to Tanaka later, and it has already been decided that Tanaka will be the captain of the team since he was the most skillful among the group.
But it seemed the others are not satisfied yet.
