Chapter 3: Amulet

Avan raised his hand and closed his eyes, "Entara Zi Fa Ma Ha Lo!" But as soon as he opened it, nothing was happening. "Heh, I can't even summon a demon to exchange my soul to get stronger. How laughable."

Avan began to scavenge throughout the whole forbidden room of magic the books that he was looking at.

He was taking notes and looking at all of it, trying to memorize each and everyone of it.

He couldn't even cast basic spells like Heal or Fireball.

So in this forbidden room, he was trying to cast each and every spell that he could find. In the desperation, this was the room for his experimentation.

Without a care for what would happen after the spell has been casted, he does it anyway.

Summon a demon, a dragon, an angel, a god, destroy cities, kill people, as long as he tries to grasp power. Any type of power. He'd be satisfied. Because everything is for his mother.

He went back, fruitless and clueless once again. Only having left the knowledge of the forbidden spells that he has.

But what use can that knowledge do, if he doesn't even have the power to wield it.

He went back to his home, completely stumped. Yet he put on a smile that he always put and opened it.

Everytime he does this, he just couldn't say how much grateful he is that her mother was there everytime that door gets opened.

A warm delicious meal on the table and her mother's smile waiting for him.

"I'm home." Avan exclaimed.

He sat on the table and eat the warm meal that was presented unto him. He tried his best to prevent the tears out from happening.

He promised to himself, "I'll be stronger mother. You won't have to live in shame because of me."

He showered once again and went to his room to prepare to sleep.

But his heart began to beat loudly and painfully.

He grasped his chest tightly trying to ease the pain but it got worse and worse.

He bit lips trying to hide the voice from coming out.

His chest began to shine and he brought out the necklace that was wrapped around his neck out. He took it off and threw it at the ground.

The pain stopped and he began to breathe for air.

He was sweating heavily yet the pain of his heart was still there.

He picked back up the necklace that he threw on the ground, "The last of father's memory."

It was a necklace with an odd shape. The very middle was like a kunai a blade and then a hole on top of it for the necklace. From each side, it looked like the bones of a wing as if it was showing it. It was covered in blood, but it was too difficult to remove. But it was possible, but he and Carpei doesn't want to.

Before it was given to Avan, it was fully complete. But as time went on and as he grown into what he is now, the necklace was cracked all over. Yet it won't fall apart.

"I don't bear any hatred for my father. He was long gone before I was even born. Yet my mother tried to salvage whatever he could of father. So I know he was good to my mother to the point that she still loves him that much even in death." Avan said to himself. "But this necklace that father left... is always mysterious. My heart is painful at random times when I'm wearing this. But it feels like, my whole body feels lighter after. I don't get what it means but... this is a gift that my mother and father gave to me. So I'm not taking it off."

He went to sleep and time went on once again.

The bright light of the sun woke up Avan, but that was not the only light in the morning. Carpei's beautiful smile as she woke up Avan with food on her kept him awake for the rest of the day.

He ate his food and began to dress as today was Monday in their time. It was time for him to finally attend school.

"I'll be going now. Take care mother."
