Chapter 2: Chapter 2- Level up

A stream of system notifications popped in front of Edwin's eyes. He couldn't believe what he read. All of his status back to zero? What kind of joke was that.

He looked at the beggar, trying to see if it was some catch by the devs, but unfortunately, it was real. That quest was real, and Edwin would be screwed if he didn't manage to complete it. He scratched his hair and was lost. The amount of bread required to complete the quest was unknown to him, and judging by the penalty of the said quest, Edwin knew the number would be astronomical.

"What can I do?" he thought, and the first solution that came to his head was, sell the beginners health potion that the game gave to him. Potions were considered magic items inside Dawn, and their value far surpasses that of bread. The only problem was that Edwin only had one potion, and the beggar wanted tons of bread.

The idea of selling the potion seemed okay at first, but the success rate was too low for him. When everything looked lost, Edwin got another idea and one that could actually work.

"The village's inn, how didn't I thought of that?" the village was small, but like every other village, it had an inn. Inns were more than a place to sleep. It was a place to eat, drink, and share stories. Edwin planned to work for the inn if they needed it and ask for bread as payment instead of coins. He knew that a patron would prefer to pay him with food. It was much cheaper.

It wasn't hard to find the inn, as the village had only a few decent buildings, and the inn was one of them. It was made of fine wood, well designed, and clean. Edwin wouldn't say the same for those people who entered.

He opened up the door and saw empty tables and a man behind the balcony. The man had wrinkles and grey hair. Edwin was certain that he was the inn's owner.

"Excuse me, sir," Edwin said politely to the man.

"Sir? Don't call me that brat. I'm still young," the man laughed out loud.

"I'm Edwin. I know it's strange to ask you this but, are you hiring?" that man was Edwin's only hope.

"Are you serious? Congrats to you that was sure well-timed. I don't know if you noticed, but the village suddenly got full of people. They came out of nowhere, and right now are outside killing monsters. The thing is that almost all of them will come back to the village as the night isn't good for those who roam, and our staff can't handle it. The job we offer you is that of a waiter. Is it enough for you?" the man said a lot of things to Edwin, and most of that already passed through his mind. Players would surely change the world of Dawn, and it was already starting at that small inn.

"That would be awesome," Edwin smiled. The plan had worked.

New Quest Acquired

[Rewards: ??????]

"I know it's strange to say this, but can you pay me with bread?" Edwin said with an awkward smile.

"What?"

***

"Are you sure you know what to do?" Gerey asked Edwin.

"I'm sure," he wanted to just say—it's a video game, and I know how waiters work, but of course, he didn't.

"Here's your new clothing. Be sure to be dressed accordingly."

[Waiter's costume]

[Defense: 0]

[Description: a simple waiter's outfit. The fabrics are of good quality, but it lacks on defense.]

"I look good on it," Edwin thought after dressing up and watch himself in the mirror. His white hair suited well with the waiter's outfit, giving him a charming look.

"Brat, stop watching yourself in the mirror and go to work. People are starting to arrive," Gerey, the inn's owner said.

"I want a beer," a player yelled.

"I want one too," another said soon after.

The atmosphere inside the inn was vivid, and everyone was drinking and sharing information that they gathered on their first day of playing.

Edwin ran from table to table giving them their order, and everyone thought he was an NPC. That fact gave Edwin a huge advantage as everyone didn't think of hiding information.

"Did you guys know? The Ouroboros guild has found a boss. They are planning to kill it first to get the rewards, and the server announcement," a bulky man said at one of the tables.

"Are you sure? Maybe they are only saying this to boost their fame," another player commented.

"I'm sure. They posted screenshots at the forum, go look yourself if you don't believe me."

Edwin heard a piece of information from every table.

"They already found a boss, and I'm here stuck trying to get bread to a beggar..." Edwin was getting tired. He wanted to go out and kill monsters, explore, make himself known inside Dawn, but that damn quest stood in his way. He needed to complete it, or else he would lose his character.

The inn was slowly getting emptier as the sun was coming up, and all the players returning to monster hunting.

"Hey brat, I couldn't have done it without you but lemme ask you something. You really want to be paid with bread?" Gerey was confused at Edwin's actions, but he would do as Edwin wished.

[Ding Quest Completed]

[Ding 100 Experience Points Acquired]

[Ding Level +1]

[Ding 35 bread added to your inventory]

Edwin smiled. He never thought that simple quest would give him that much XP. Quests were rare inside Dawn, and only one player could have the same quest, so Edwin would take advantage of that and grab as many quests as he could.

"Let's distribute these free points."
