Chapter 10: Time to know the truth

Chapter 10

I got into the room,pacing up and down waiting for him. He entered the room and I thought that was the end of everything,I'll end up disgracing myself and my family if he tells anyone what happened earlier.

"Why did you do that?" He asked in a surprisingly calm tone. "He must've cooled down on the way home" I thought,trying to put my mind at ease.

"I'm sorry,don't tell mother or Diane about this" I pleaded. He looked disappointed instead of being angry. Why isn't he angry over a matter this big when he gets mad at minor things. I was probably right to think of him as a psycho.

He continued "Give me a reason,I want to have a reason in order to forgive you. I may have been cruel to you but I've never for once cheated on you".

"Cheated?isnt that too much?" I blurted out,I couldn't keep it in anymore. What have I done to deserve the horrible treatments I receive from him and why am I not even allowed to meet whosever I want to meet?.

I continued "I only went out to see my best friend and you called that cheating" I said silently praying that he didn't hear Clark's confession earlier.

"Do you think I'm a fool? Do you think I don't know what's going on between you two? Heaven knows for how long you've been secretly seeing each other " He said angrily as he unbottons the upper button of his shirt pacing around the room.

I summed up courage and said "you're right I love him and so does he. I've loved him even before the selection and also why were you tailing me?.

It was the first time seeing Clark's face again after the party,he would secretly send letters using a code we both developed in high school just to communicate with each other.

I couldn't go to him because I was scared of Damien finding out. I summed up courage just to go see him today and now it has all gone to waste.

I was still in my head when he foolishly said "Why not me?,why him. I'm better than him in everything,I'm more handsome and even richer then why him?

I thought I heard wrong but he looked serious, 'He's crazy'I said in my mind.

He came closer and held my arms looking at my eyes and repeated the question.

I moved a way from him,sliding his hands downwards to let go of my arms. I replied saying "To me he's what I don't think you'd ever be".

He looked sad and displeased by my reply. He sat on the couch and asked

"why then have you been nice to me?". You could have continued to look at me with contempt like you do now but why did you change and suddenly choose to be nice?

Were you planning on killing me and run away with my money to live elsewhere with Clark?"

"Your money?you must be out of your mind,I'm not interested in your money. I didn't want to say this but I guess I have no choice.....

I was nice to you out of pity and because I was trying to forgive you" I replied without thinking.

"Out of pity?" he asked

"Yes, I asked Diane about your dream but apparently I got to know that wasn't the first time you'd be having those".

I remembered the discussion I had with Diane. She said he was traumatized by an incident that happened years ago.

Daine tried to recall the incident and then said "He was locked up in an abandoned store for 3 days after being beaten mercilessly by bullies from his class, he was found almost dead after 3 days of tireless search by the local police.

He was found lying on the bare floor with both legs and hands tied with rope. He was bleeding from his head as well,he must've sustained that during the fight" She sighed and then continued

"He woke up days later with partial memory loss,he couldn't recognize his assailants neither could he recognize I and Dad.He could only recognize mum".

"It took months for him to regain those memories.He has been having those dreams ever since then but he takes medications prescribed by the family doctor to help him sleep better"She said finally ending the chat.

That was when I thought he could've developed his anti social behavior as a result of the incident. In as much as I hate him for all he did to me at community high I couldn't help but pity him.

"She told me all that happened to you in the store" I continued unable to contain my anger

"Pls stop,he said getting up and holding his chest ".

I thought it was a trick just to stop me from expressing myself further so I continued to run my mouth which I later realized was a big mistake.

He got so angry and began breaking things. He cleared all that was on the dresser breaking the perfume bottles and all other things that was on the dresser. The noise attracted the rest of the family and they came running to see what was going on.

I was terrified at this point,seriously regretting my actions. He broke the porcelain and hurt his hands in the process. He continued scattering things ignoring the blood gushing out from his hands.

After few minutes of destruction he suddenly stopped,breathing heavily as he turned towards us and fainted.

Mother was crying as she ran towards him. The mayor asked Diane to get the driver as they carried him out of the room.
