Chapter 57: Reality(2)

The ever-familiar green eyes had an eerie glow to them. The haggard look on his face only brought me more discomfort. With every step he took, I instinctually felt that he was not the Eren I know.

He's telling the truth.

"Would you at least hear us out?" The blonde man spoke with a weary breath. It was then, that I noticed the chains wrapped around him.

On a normal day, I would've cringed at the sheer stupidity of chaining a man to sand, but the recent events proved that what I am experiencing right now is in the realm of the supernatural.

"How do you know me?"

"…"

"What do want from me?"

"…"

"If you're not going to talk, then why even bring me here?"

"Future."

"Huh?"

"You are in the future right now. Everything you see here is destined to happen at some point."

"…"

"It's hard to explain everything this way, do you mind if I show you?"

Taking a step back from him, I raised my hands to resist. "Oh, I do mind. I'd prefer to stay away from you two."

"….You don't get to choose here, I was just being polite." As soon as he said that, the sand beneath my feet rose, wrapped around my arms, and turned into metallic chains.

"YOU!"

"You'll understand soon." I couldn't get the time to respond as he touched my forehead and I slowly felt the world around me turn dark again. The most annoying thing was that I hoped Eren would come to save me at the last second despite my brewing hatred for him.

The dark world then lit up in a bright light encompassing all I could see. A shade of grey took over a corner of this place and from within that stain, images flashed faster than one could even blink.

The life of a hot-blooded boy, admiring the courage of the military, loving his family and friends. I witnessed how he abhorred his weaknesses, how he hated being powerless when his friend's parents died, his anger when the titans broke through the wall, his sorrow when he saw his comrades dying, his desperation to bring change.

Betrayals, conspiracies, massacres, wars, sympathy, grief and love. I saw him go through all these emotions as he grew older slowly taking the shape of the man claiming to be Eren.

"What you see here right now are my memories." His voice echoed from all around but I didn't dare to take my eyes off those images, because there were some things I noticed. The people around him were all too familiar, his teen face was too familiar.

Before I could speak out my thoughts, the grey shade vanished and color started taking shaped around me. I was now standing in front of a huge tree with roots as big as a house. The people Eren had once associated with were all here, including an older version of me. It seemed like a funeral.

Time passed by and I got married and had my own kids. I became happy. In the end, before passing away, I laid down on the tree that had yet to lose its luster and rest with the red scarf wrapped around me.

A wind blew past me sweeping out the world and presenting broken images of a war-torn world, technologically advanced yet struggling to stand firm. In the end, the sky had been riddled with smoke from long structures exploding.

Slowly but surely, everything crumbled to dust except for the tree. It had lost its bark but had a blue surface inside, much like the tree I saw when I first arrived.

Decades turned to centuries and slowly, everything turned to dust, and all that was left was the huge tree spreading everywhere in a desert.

"That was the future."

"Was?"

He looked down to meet my gaze.

"It was until this iteration of Eren deviated from the predetermined path."

"What?"

"He accelerated everything to dangerous levels. Look there." Following his finger, I saw another Eren fighting with another blonde, oblivious to our presence.

"They are the iterations of this world before your present."

"Before my what!?"

"It's a loop. This world is in a loop, always has been, until the variable stepped in. He questioned the origin of this loop."

"I don't think I got the whole picture, but I feel like that cannot be enough to cause some kind of problems."

"A paradox. Something which cannot exist in reality, its in quantum entanglement with reality. As long as everyone accepts the presence of reality, paradoxes cannot be formed. Your Eren brought up my existence."

"...I have no idea what that means, but it sounds important."

"I am the paradox, he brought up through the flaws of this reality."

"If it's already flawed, why even sustain it?"

"CAN YOU JUST LISTEN!"

"Eren, calm down, she's a kid." The blonde man spoke for the first time.

"Hello, let's forget about the pleasantries. This world is flawed but it was also secure from the end, the present Eren broke that security. The flaws have been exposed and reality has accepted those flaws. So the world is ending. POOF, we're hoping you would work with us to stop that."

"No."

"Well, we'll still give you our powers regardless of your decision. We don't have much time, so let's summarize this. We give you powers, do what you want, you are our only shot at this, I don't have any hope in this but there's no harm in trying. Even we don't know how to stop it so don't beat yourself up."

"So you'll-"

"Yes, we'll dump all our responsibilities on a kid."

"Hey that's n-"

"Huh…I'm fading. Looks like time's up."

"Hey wait!"
