Chapter 3: Chapter
They went to a nurse and asked her to give him proper treatment. She admitted him instantly, gave him medicine and dressed his wounds properly.
"Now you take rest here. When you'll wake up you'll feel much better." Nurse said sweetly and left the room.
"Is he good?" Anna asked as nurse left the room.
"Yeah. He's fine now. He'll be asleep for a few hours because his body and mind needs rest. If you want you can go inside he is still awake. But do not let him go outside the room." She said and left.
Anna opened the door and went inside slowly closing the door behind. She stood there watching him with her hands folded and head tilted.
"Why are you standing there?"
She walked towards the chair and sat next to his bed.
"You should sleep now." she said in a her low voice.
"I don't feel like sleeping." he replied in a deep sad voice.
"Ok then lets talk. By the way what happened? I mean the accident." her curiosity barged in.
She immediately regretted her choice of question but it was too late to take it back.
" It's fine Anna. No need to make such expression as if you asked something strange. " he replied looking at her coming and going expressions.
" Sorry, I didn't mean to barge it in. It just slipped off. " she apologized.
He took a deep sigh and said,
"We were on a vacation here and yesterday we were heading back but suddenly what happened I don't know we were driving slowly and within a moment a car overtook us making our car astray. After that I lost control over my car and the next thing I know was that our car was collapsed against the bridge wall. " He paused and swallowed a gulp then continued.
"It was just a matter of seconds that everything I value in my life was at the edge of death and I was feeling so helpless that I can't explain. People were standing there around us and some kind hearted ones took me out of the car but all I was worried about was Fiona. She was in so much pain that my mind was just numb to everything else, even my own pain. Her head was bleeding heavily. I wrapped her head with the scarf of her and started looking for my phone. But it was all crushed and useless. Suddenly a man arrived and said ambulance is on it's way. I think he was with you."
"Yeah. He is my driver."
"Hmmm. I just don't know how to thank you for what you did for us. Thank you for not making our past the barrier in it." He said looking towards her.
"No need to thank me. I can't see you in pain. Fiona's pain was killing you I saw at that moment but seeing you like this now is killing me. That moment is gone and everything will be fine soon. I'm here with you." She wanted to say all this to him but she looked down to hide her teary eyes, swallowing the gulp in her throat she replied, "I did what was right. If it had been anyone else I would have done the same thing. Or anyone would have done the same whosoever would have been in my place. After all humanity is also a thing."
He nodded.
There was silence for a few moments. She looked at him and he was almost asleep. She waited for him to doze off. In a couple of minutes he was asleep because finally sedative took over.
She stood up and left the room. Closing the door she went straight to the children ward. It was around half past 8 she looked at her phone.
"Excuse me , is the baby we visited last night fine?" She asked a nurse.
"May I know the name of mother or the room number?"
"Her name's Fiona and she is in ICU on this floor."
"Ok. Yes he is doing good. You can meet him by night today or tomorrow early morning." Nurse informed and left.
She stood there and watching the baby. Her eyes were filled with tears and her mind was blank.
She turned and left for the doctor's room to meet her.
"Excuse me ." She said knocking on the door.
"Yes come in." Dr.Mandy replied looking at her.
She went inside and doctor offered her a seat.
"Ma'am Marcel just got attended for his injuries and nurse told me that she gave her medicine and he'll be asleep. "
"Yes he'll sleep for at least 4-6 hours. As his body needs rest and so does his mind."
"Ok. And what about Fiona, his wife?"
"She's not doing good because of heavy blood loss her recovery is slow. We are afraid she might go into coma also."
Anna was stunned with what she heard.
The first thing that crossed her mind was what would be Marcel's reaction to it.
"By the way are they your relatives?" Doctor asked.
Anna was silent for a moment then she said, "I'm a friend of them."
"Ok. They need you at this moment. It's really hard for them."
"Doctor can you please do me a favor?"
Doctor nodded.
"I have to go for sometime because my younger sister is alone at home. Can you please take care of them and inform me as soon as Marcel or Fiona awakes?" She said handling her card to the doctor.
Doctor took the card and said, "Yes sure. Take your time. I'll ring you." With a smile.
Anna thanked the doctor and went to Marcel's room. Looking through the door she saw him asleep and left for her home.
On her way back she drove real slow because her mind was wondering over what happened last night. She had made herself so strong since Marcel left, but then also last night she went weak.
7years were long enough to build a wall around her that no one or any emotion can break. But seeing him once was all that took to shatter that wall and set her heart free to do what she wanted to do. She did listened to her heart last night.
It was almost 8:45am when she reached her home.
Entering the house she went straight to her bedroom and then in shower. Standing under the shower she cried unseen tears unheard sobs. Her heart was heavy, her eyes were swollen red, empty and cold thinking about everything.
"Anna you home?" Liza entered her room calling her and bringing Anna back from her empty lands.
"Yeah." she replied composing herself.
"Come we'll have coffee together. I made for you." Liza said in her charming voice.
"Thanks love. Just two minutes."
Anna said.
Liza sat on the bed and sipped her coffee while Anna came out and dried her hair.
"Where you went sisy without informing me?" She enquired looking at her with puzzled face.
"I was at the hospital with Marcel. I told you." She said blow drying her hair.
"But why did you went there? You shouldn't have? "Liza sounded serious this time.
She finally remembered who he was.
Anna left the dressing table and sat on the bed with Liza. Took her cup of coffee and sipped.
"It is a nice coffee though."
she forced a smile.
"It's not the answer to my question sisy. And why are your eyes red? Were you crying?"
"He has no one here. He needed someone to be with him right now because his wife is critical, almost on the edge of being in coma. His child is weak and under observation for 24 hours. He didn't even bothered to seek treatment for himself because he was so out of his mind." She almost choked on her breath.
They both sat in silence.
"Will you go again?" Asked Liza.
Anna stood up from bed and stand near window looked outside took a deep breath and replied, "Yes. Marcel is on medication and asleep. But he'll wake soon so I'll have to be there before he wake up."
"I hope you know what you are heading towards." Liza said and hugged her from behind almost flipping Anna's coffee.
She held Lisa's hands from front and patted her head.
