Chapter 15: Chapter 15 - Boiling blood

A figure appeared behind Shin as it grabbed onto him.
Shin, in shock, tried to turn and react but soon realized it was Hendrick and stopped as Hendrick lifted him but before quickly moving back to the sitting area.
"If you really want to watch powerhouses battling, it should be safer here." Hendrick put Shin down as he spoke.
Shin quickly glanced around but soon realized that the crowd wasn't as chaotic as he was expecting them to be.
A few families, however, were nervous after realizing that their children had not evacuated in time or had already been caught in the line of fire. However, they stayed calm as they were talking with a few of the examiners who were here.
The other families just simply continued to watch the battle or were consoling their children.
Shin looked back at Hendrick in confusion as the old baron explained.
"The examiners are all at least at the weaponmaster or at the 5th circle mage level. Look over there." Hendrick pointed to the battlefield between the intruder and Rodrick where a few shadows were appearing and disappearing. "Those are the children who got swept on the intial explosion and are being rescued."
Shin focused onto the battle and soon noticed the figures briefly stopping before each body before quickly disappearing along with it.
"They're taking them to the infirmary to get patched up by the healers. Some might've actually recieved fatal damage or have gained a traumatic memory of this day but most of them should be fine." Hendrick consoled Shin. "Now they're all take, focus on the battle. That's the real battle of powerhouses."
Shin refocused onto Rodrick and the strange man's battle which had now escalated as Rodrick realized that all the children had been evacuated.
Swoooosh!
Dozens of flaming spears appeared out of thin air around Rodrick as he seemed to hurl them at the strange man one by one.
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
The strange man, however, had a blue-ish and translucent barrier surrounding him which resembled that of what Duke Allflame had created before.
Ssssk!
Black colored spikes seemed to rush out from the ground around the man before quickly attempting to push Rodrick away.
And it succeeded.
Rodrick was sent flying back from the impact of the hit. But before he could dash back at him he noticed a strange aura surrounding the mage.
"Shi-"
Sst!
The strange man seemed to have disappeared from the scene as cold sweat ran down Shin's back.
Ba-dump, Ba-dump. His heart racing and adrenaline pumping as he watched the heated battle. His blood seemed to have been boiling as heat rushed throughout his body.
At that moment.
Sss!
"Shin get down!" Hendrick shouted as the man appeared right behind Shin with a black scythe in his right hand.
Shin quickly ducked as fast as he could as the scythe flew past where his head had been, cutting off a few pieces of his hair as Hendrick charged at the man.
"What?" The man spoke out in shock from the fact that the small boy had dodged his attack.
Thankfully, he was just a mage. Despite his strength, Shin wasn't a weak boy but rather a peak iniate warrior and was able to barely dodge in time thanks to the adrenaline and focus he had.
A silver longsword seemed to have appeared in Hendrick's hands as it started to glow white before he swung it at the strange man who was preparing a second attack after the initial shock.
!?
The man stopped his attacks to recreate the shield to parry the attack.
Boom!
Ssss...
The silver sword seemed to penetrate slowly into the shield as the man's eyes opened up wide.
"Humph!" The man then swung his scythe at Hendrick instead as Hendrick lifted his swords up to parry before being pushed away from the attack.
"Shin! Run!" Hendrick shouted as he got pushed away but soon realized it was too late.
Rodrick had almost made it to the scene but he had simply been too far away.
But at that moment.
Time seemed to have stopped.
Well no, time didn't stop.
It just felt like the world had stopped due to the sudden and overwhelming pressure that had covered everyone's body.
The man quickly realized what happened as he chanted the teleportation magic again.
"Who dares harm the young seedlings of the empire." A voice rang out from above.
Shin looked up to see Duke Allflame floating within the air, his entire surroundings burning up simply from him exuding his mana.
The temperature seemed to have increased by multiple degrees as well.
"Hah, a lower archon dares to infiltrate the academy alone? Rodrick I'm disappointed at your skills." Duke Allflame spoke as he snapped his fingers.
Ssssst! Sha-ta-tak!
Red chains, which seemed to have been made from fire itself, appeared out from thin air and tied down the man and cancled his spell.
Rodrick, who had been charging towards the seatings at his top speed, noticed the duke's appearnace before bowing to him. "Apologies to the duke. It seems my skills aren't quite suitable against mages."
"Humph" Duke Allflame raised his hands before a small orb of fire appeared in his hands. "Thankfully, I sensed his mana quickly. If not for that, I might've lost my doll's little buddy today."
"He's not my friend!" Shouted Shila, who had been hiding behindn one of the examiners.
"You..." The strange man glared between the Duke and Shin before pulling out a small paper. "Escape..."
"Warp scroll! Duke!" Rodrick realized the small paper in the man's hands as he quickly dashed towards him.
"Damn it!" Duke Allflame quickly lunged the small orb of flame at the man.
Boom!
The orb landed on the man's shoulders as he managed to rip the scroll in half before quickly disappearing.
...
Silence befell the area.
