Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Missions

<1st person POV>

After all the genin woke up, Kurenai began to speak.

"I'm sorry about knocking you. Most of you were already captured in a genjutsu.", she said, looking at me in particular.

"The mock battle was good. You all managed to work together to create an effective plan, you even managed to almost take me down, however", her tone became more serious, "I noticed that you had an overreliance on Shinra's capabilities. I was fighting him for a solid 10 minutes before someone else showed up. Of course that isn't necessary a bad thing, however none of you fought together which meant you left it up to chance that he could last so long against me."

Hearing her lecture, we all began to agree, there was a lot of flaws in our plan that could have easily been exploited. In fact, if it wasn't for my vector abilities which no one knew about, the plan would have fallen apart.

"Now, I'll be rating your performance and explaining any flaws I want you guys to improve."

"First.." she said turning to Shino. "Shino you did well in placing the trap, you even managed to stick a bug on me which I didn't even notice" she praised, "However you let your guard down when you believed you captured me allowing you to get trapped in my genjutsu, never assume your opponent will stop fighting as soon as they are captured." she explained with Shino nodding.

"Next.." turning to Hinata. "Hinata, your surprise attack was well executed. You used a point when I was too preoccupied with your teammate, to attack. However, your problem is that you hesitate too much causing your attacks to be painfully slow. In a real battle, the opponent won't care about your feelings, hesitation will lead to death!", she spoke emphasizing the last line. Hinata's face reddened and she managed to croak out, "H-Hai sensei".

"Finally..", she said turning to me, but she immediately paused, staring at my face.

"Hit me sensei", I said, trying to get her to talk.

"You are very proficient in taijutsu, and you were able to give me a good fight. You even managed to somehow bypass my genjutsu.", this time she paused. "How exactly were you able to do that? I didn't see you try to break out, it's almost like you weren't affected at all?"

"Would you like the real answer, or the one I plan to tell my enemies" I ask, still smiling.

A smirk began to form on sensei before she spoke," Give me the one you plan to tell to your enemies."

"Kekkai genkai, grants me immunity to genjutsu".

"Hmph, all right. See that was good, never reveal your secrets to anyone", she spoke turning to all three of us," An unknown shinobi is a good shinobi."

"Alright, but sensei is there any complaints with my performance." I ask.

Kurenai turned to me, again. " No, not really, except maybe don't shout out a random quip every minute", she answered smiling.

"Hai sensei, I'll make sure to spout one every 30 seconds", I replied.

We all started laughing at that.

"Alright, tomorrow we'll be starting D-rank missions so be sure to be here early."

"Hai sensei!", we all say together.

After Kurenai left, we all began to walk home.

"Shinra, how did you bypass her genjutsu? I don't think its cause of low chakra capacity.", asked Shino. Hinata was also staring at me, probably wonder the same thing.

I stuck my finger to my mouth, silencing him, "uh-huh, that's my secret. You gotta figure it out yourself. Ooooh that's a good game, guess how Shinra is immune to genjutsu.", I laughed, running away. I think I heard someone chuckle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I ran straight home that day. During dinner I explained to my parents about the mock battle.

"Whoa, brother is so cool!" exclaimed Kyo. "You managed to fight evenly with a jonin-sensei."

"Of course, I am the great Shinra, future strongest shinobi." I said praising myself. I wasn't wearing my blindfold, my parents don't know about just yet. I'm sure I will have to explain it to them, but that's future me's problem.

"Sure, but for now you are still our little boy", said dad, squeezing my cheeks. "Keep that up and you might even make chunin, just like you old man."

"Ahh, Shinra you must invite your teammates to dinner. I would love to meet your sensei and your future teammates.", mom said clapping her hands.

"Sure, mom I will", I replied continuing to eat. Although everybody was praising me, I was sorely disappointed in myself. I couldn't land a single direct hit on sensei, everything was either countered or dodged. In fact, if it wasn't for the vector-enhanced air pressure from the punches, I probably would have lost. If I wanted to prepare for the future, I needed to get stronger.

What's up everybody,

Author here. So I have been wondering, should I kill off a character? I feel like that would motivate our mc, but I am kind of on edge about it. Also next chapter, will be an original mission, so it might take me a while to release. Please comment any criticisms you might have, and I hope you have a wonderful day.
