Chapter 74: Chapter 74: Second Year Dinner
As William left that small office, he walked away from Professor McGonagall, she had to receive the first years and guide them to their selection, William on the other hand returned at his own pace to the large dining room.
He passed the oak doors and saw the four tables belonging to the four houses of the school, all were full of students and of course, they all seemed to know each other.
William walked over to the Gryffindor table, he remembered perfectly well where his usual seat was so he walked over there, the other Griffyndor members were watching him intently and avoided contact by moving away from his seat. Anyone who was at Hogwarts the year before knew about that post.
"Why do you always pick this post?"
Hermione was sitting across from William, then William looked towards the part closest to the teachers' table.
"Shouldn't you be with the Weasleys, near the professors?"
"Is that the view you have of me?" she stared at William as if she wanted to intimidate him, but for William it was simply impossible for Hermione to intimidate him.
"No..." William shook his head slightly and then looked back up "yes, well yes."
Then the doors to the great dining hall opened once more revealing Professor McGonagall with all the first year juniors behind her, all formed in two rows walking straight towards where the hat was selecting and the teachers.
"There's Ginny."
"Yes..." William saw some familiar faces among them were Ginny Weasley, Luna Lovegood and Colin Creevey the Harry Potter fan boy and son of muggles.
"Do you think I can get into Gryffindor?"
"Is your question really necessary?" William looked directly at Hermione "We have three generations of Weasley's in Gryffindor house, not counting the previous two generations and these individuals' own parents and you still doubt if this girl will get into Gryffindor"
"You have a point."
"Truth be told at this point I already believe that the Sorting Hat only sends them to Gryffindor as soon as it hears their last names."
"Shouldn't it be the same story with the Rosiers?"
"That's a great point, but as you can tell I'm different from my brothers to the core and that's not the case with Ginny. But of course we can make a bet if you prefer."
"I don't make bets."
Unable to do more, William stayed in his seat, he took out the book he was reading on the express again hoping this time to finish it while the selection ceremony was taking place.
The pages turned at almost the same pace as the students were selected for their houses, just as William expected, Ginny was selected in Gryffindor, everyone applauded and then the ceremony came to an end.
The headmaster gave his official speech, introducing all the teachers and of course mentioning the areas where students should not go if they wish to continue living.
The moment he introduced Lockhart the applause in the large dining room really took over, the girls really loved Lockhart, this time it was evident even to the blindest boy of all.
"Time for lunch?" asked William closing his book, at the table there was quite a feast and everyone began to eat, Hermione was still worried about her classmates then William watched as Headmaster Dumbledore left the great dining room, that was the sign that the troublesome duo had appeared at the school.
At the end of the welcome dinner, all the first year students were guided by their prefects to their corresponding houses, of course they also had their tour. William simply got up and walked out of the large dining hall, he wanted to take a nap as soon as possible.
"Will" An almost shrill voice stopped William's steps to leave the large dining hall, the voice was familiar and although he could just turn a blind eye, he preferred not to.
"Cho Chang and her friend Marietta, it's good to see you ladies again" William smiled matter-of-factly.
"It's good to see you again too Will. I heard all about what happened, it's lucky you weren't injured" Cho brought up the subject with a tone of concern.
"Still Cho, you have to see Will directly, things really seem to have changed for him, a year ago he wouldn't have talked to us in a similar situation and now he even stopped, I think Castelobruxo makes changes even for cold hearted wizards like Will" Mariela mentioned making William startle.
"You may be right Mariela" William looked around, there were hardly any students left in the vicinity "very well girls, I think I should say goodbye for tonight, I have to get back to the Gryffindor room before I catch a new problem" with William's farewell there was a small graceful bow retreating in a half turn.
"Goodbye William" both girls shook their hands and withdrew to be on their way.
<This year things will be really entertaining> William walked forward always keeping his mind's eye active, this year Ginny would open the chamber of secrets and it was of main interest to know the position at every moment of the basilisk, he needed to gain points this years and the chamber of secrets was the main objective, that and a few others which needed their proper time.
Arriving at the Gryffindor common room all the students were gathered together as they engaged in conversation, obviously they were happy to see each other after the vacations. Harry and Ron were also in the common room along with Hermione, William had no interest in either of them so he just went upstairs, he needed to rest a lot more compared to other people, he may not have suffered a lethal wound from his confrontation against Greyback before but the wound in his abdomen somehow always made him have less energy.
