Chapter 15: Lightning storm
The both of them look at each other with disbelief seeing Jake's response to the sandpit Racquel had conjured. For Orchid it was his first time seeing someone use magic in such a way, it was new to him he had never seen such an intense display of power and just from a single person. They always did watch Jake train but he never did reveal Excalibur and the power it bears was tremendous.
Clouds engulf the eternal sky causing darkness to flood the entire arena. Just as the last ray of moonlight disappears streaks of lightning start to hit the ground. Jake raises Excalibur to the sky, a bolt of lighting connects to its tip. A cloud of dust instantly forms, the both of them could not see Jake; Racquel covers her eyes as sand flakes were getting into them, and the moment she opens them, Jake slams her to the ground. Orchid hears a below and could not mistake it for anyone else.
"RACQUEL!!! Where are you?" chills form at the nape of Orchid's neck, he ducked as a giant sword almost decollates his head.
Orchid sweeps his leg to tackle Jake to the ground but Jake manages to avoid it. Jake was really skillful when it came to close combat but this wasn't Orchid's motive he needs to create distance between the both of them, to give him a good second to conjure anything from his arsenal of spells. They both stare each other down, both unwilling to pull out.
"Are you gonna let a girl protect, you should have some class..." he gave a sly leer. He does this to aggravate Orchid, to get a response from him. He knows it was one of his many weak points even from someone who barely knows him, Jake could see that he easily gets riled up and this could enable him to put him down for half the time needed.
Orchid's eyebrows furrow, he hates it when Jake makes derogatory remarks about his people. Orchid doesn't really care about his remarks targeted at him but to degrade those people, they who are working tirelessly every day to climb ranks, to feed their families, and even when the system is built against them they still find a way.
'How would someone like him know what's it like being at the bottom. I'll carve out his tongue for such comments.'
"What did you do to Racquel?" he grits his teeth, looking at him looking all smug.
"She's somewhere on the ground, I think, she's lost consciousness rather quickly," he says dispassionately. His word struck a chord in Orchid's heart, he started to get worried, making many presumptions on her current state.
Orchid looks back to where he last saw her, he feels that tingle again and quickly looks back, and just about a foot away he sees Jake, his sword risen aimed to stab him. Orchid quickly moves to make distance. He realizes that being distracted right now won't do any good for him or Racquel.
'Racquel won't fall that easily, calm down. I'm gonna die before her if I do.'
He stares coldly at Jake. He reaches to his back pocket and pulls out a blade.
"Do you think that's gonna save you?" Jake was amused by that small knife he had pulled out.
"It's not meant for you." Orchid smiles
He slices the palm of his hand wincing from the pain.
Jake stares at him blankly. He doesn't give him time as he flys at him with his sword but before he could get near him, Orchid slams his palm to the sand below.
"My turn," he mumbles with a simper.
A dim lighten summoning circle appears, Orchid reaches in to pull out a scroll. He unveils its contents, there were several markings within the scroll, the olden scripture contained Sanskrit texts that could have dated way back, even far beyond the time period of the great demon war.
He traced his blood onto the scroll using his thumb and as he did so the letter started to glow. A gust of smoke blew from the scroll enwrapping Orchid.
Jake halts his pursuit waiting for something to happen, he won't risk going in blindly, and just as he inches forward several copies of Orchid appear. The memories of their previous fight playback in Jake's mind. He frowns seeing how this was already going to play out.
"Again? Is this the only thing he can do?" he murmurs
The smoke disperses to reveal the four figures with tall wooden staffs in each hand. The staffs were made out of wood, it looked as if it was sourced from an old oak tree. The wood made a whirlpool-like pattern at the top and followed up with a thin body.
"Another toy, do your kind keep stockpiles of these useless things?"
Orchid was unconcerned by his mocking jibe and starts to chant beneath his breath.
"You think I am gonna give you time to summon those weeds like last time." he slices through the air forming a crescent moon fabricated from lightning.
"Sand wall!" a loud authoritative voice can be heard from behind them. A wall assembled from sand appears before Orchid, both attacks collide evaporating both.
A hand fell onto Orchid's shoulder.
"Didn't I say leave the attacking to me" Racquel emerges battered up, her condition made Orchid panic but he could tell from the look in her eyes that she was far from done.
Racquel tosses several bottles to Orchid. He catches all three of them struggling as he almost let all three fall to the ground.
"Use them when you get hit, they heal all your wounds in an instant. Heh, but I would advise you not to get hit, I had to use 3 bottles to get back up. You most likely have one chance with them give or take." Racquel looks at him with a wounded smile.
"Orchid this might be the potions talking but..... let's do this" it may have been empty talk but to Orchid it was just the boost he needed, he needed reassurance that all of this wasn't just going to be in vain.
"Okay Orchid so this is the...." she mutters
"Orchid!"
Orchid dashes towards Jake.
"I guess that's the plan, no plan" she mutters
"SAND STORM!!!!"
Sand starts to cover Orchid's as he approaches Jake. Whatever was in Orchid's mind Racquel knew that it would be better if his presence was concealed just until he got close enough. A combination attack was what she was going for, she wanted the aspect of surprise to help get themthe upperhand on the blonde.
Jake's pupils start to narrow trying to pinpoint the white hair's location, but it seems futile as sand covered almost the entire half of the arena. Just as he was about to decimate the half with volleys of lightning when he finally sees him as he breaks through the sand running towards him. Jake gets ready to strike him down and based on his experience, Orchid's attempt won't be that fruitful. Even before dealing with Orchid, he starts to look for his next target, Racquel. To him, she seems like a better challenge. He wants to see if his blade could break Queen Nefitti's blade, he had studied all there is to know about these legendary weapons, and her's was one of the most sought-after weapons during the great demon war. It said that her blade was able to keep Egypt safe until it was stolen.
'If I can't get through him then I can face her' determined he charges and easily slice Orchid's body into two but the look in his eyes fade seeing the 2 halves of Orchid evaporate.
'Another trick' he says, but he then starts to get dizzy.
"wha.." he mutters, he looks down to catch a view of a purple tulip bloomed between his legs. The purple vapor that was emitted by the flower is a potent anesthetic used in medical treatment. He leaps back covering his nose but it was too late as this variant of anesthetic was fast-acting.
He starts to fumble to get a solid footing, he uses his sword for support, stabbing its tip to the ground.
"Like my weeds? I grew them myself" Orchid remarks, mockingly
Jake gives him a narked look trying to keep steady.
"Don't worry it will wear off in about 3 hours, I don't really know about any side effects but I heard you might not be as potent for a while not but based on your dating history you shouldn't really have much of a problem."
Jake snarls at him squinting his eyes trying to focus on one of the three Orchids in front of him.
Racquel strides to Orchid's side beaming from ear to ear, looking at Jake's condition.
"Orchid how did...?" as she was about to ask the million-dollar question but then she spots the purple tulip.
"Her classes are not that useless huh?" he nudges Orchid and he nods in agreement.
"You have had your fun, now it's my turn" Racquel grins devilishly, she smacks Jake on the face with the back of her sword forming a slight cut on his face, she begins to kick him in the gut repeatedly.
Jake kneels to the ground using his sword as support. She looks at him demeaningly and laughs...
"Not so tough now huh big boy, we should have used that tulip from the start before he almost knocked me out." she starts to wonder why she had to go through all of that and was about to ask Orchid seriously,
She looks back to Orchid but just as she lets her guard down, Jake pumps his fist into the air, looking at this Orchid knew something was going to happen,
"Racquel get back!!!" he shouts at her, she looks puzzled at first but then looks back to Jake, she jumps all the way to Orchid's side. A bolt of lightning strikes Jake not a moment later, he rises from the ground lightly charred, he smiles
"Now that done let's get back to what we were doing." the lightning bolt had rid his system of the drug. It was a really extreme way of gaining back his composure but it worked it was enough to jolt it out of his system with other benefits included, he could feel the adrenaline and dopamine running through his system getting him more and more exhilarated.
Both sides start to get serious seeing as they both get into a battle position as if carefully calculating their next move. Then they both rush into each other,
