Chapter 5: Chapter 5
Amulus signaled for the ambush to begin as the convoy traveled through the buildings. The street bombs were detonated, resulting in an explosion in the front of the convoy, flipping the lead escort car to the side of the road. The rest of the convoy came to a complete halt, and the guards formed a circle around Velena's vehicle.
The guards acted quickly after the first car exploded, forming a circle around Velena's vehicle with their vehicles to block any more explosives the ambushers possessed.
Velena, who was sitting in her transport, had a calm expression on her face because she knew the people of this planet were daring and always up to mischief, but she never expected them to try to ambush a Royal convoy, so she and her ten Valkyries exited the transport to teach these fools a lesson about messing with the Royal Family.
Velena had already issued a distress signal to the Paladins because she had no idea where the attackers were or how many there were. The fleet orbiting the city had sent down fighters and transport to block the city exits so that anyone participating in the attack would not be able to flee. Since the Paladins and Valkyries were already on the planet, they were the first to respond, and they promptly boarded their transports and made their way to Velena's location.
When the Mercenaries noticed the convoy had formed a circle around a vehicle, they all surrounded the transports in an attempt to force the guards to surrender. Amulus then stepped up once the convoy was surrounded
"You have a chance to live, Imperium soldiers. If you just hand over whoever it is you're guarding, I promise you won't be hurt "Amulus said this to avoid making himself an even bigger target, because if he killed all the guards, the Imperium would likely search for him even more aggressively, which he didn't want because they were already all over the planet and close to finding their hideout.
Velena signaled the guards to keep their weapons raised while she walked forward, having heard what the man said through her translator.
"I will not have all of you killed if you simply lay down your guns and surrender because you are currently committing a crime that will result in the death of all of you," Velena said as her words were translated into their language. She didn't care if they surrendered or not because she knew Xavier wouldn't let them live either way; all she wanted was to make their deaths as painless as possible.
"I don't know who you are, but we will not surrender to the Imperium or anyone else," Amulus said as the mercenaries aimed their guns at the guards, ready to fire. But before they could fire, Amulus felt a painful sensation in his stomach and when he looked down he had a glowing sword running through the middle of his stomach, and standing behind him, finally visible to the other guards, was a Paladin.
The mercenaries opened fire on the Paladin right away, but none of their rounds hit since a forcefield had formed around him, absorbing all of the shots. Since Velena knew who the Paladin was and that these mercenaries were in for a treat, she had ordered the guards to stand down. After the mercenaries continued to shoot without even scratching the Paladin, they failed to notice the other Paladins who had surrounded them, and when they did, it was too late as all of the Paladins charged the mercenaries, slaughtering them all and leaving no one alive, including Servious who was cut in half by a blade.
After a few minutes of combat, all of the mercenaries were dead, with the majority of them having been split in half and some having limbs missing from their bodies. Velena returned to the fleet to leave the planet as the other transports arrived on the scene and secured the area.
The Paladin who stabbed Amulus, known as Allastar, was on board the transport with her, and he was the captain or head of the Paladins. Velena talked with him along the journey about what had happened and how grateful she was for his speedy response time, despite the fact that she didn't need his help and didn't want to utilize her powers and reveal them to the planet's residents.
Velena was escorted back to the capital after docking with the fleet. She was sure that Xavier already knew of this incident and would ask her about it when she gets back since she knows that when it comes to her Xavier was always protective.
