Chapter 2: || I Accidentally Made a Friend Today

I sighed and walked into my first class and took a seat next to an empty one.

Mrs. Jefferson entered, took the attendance and started the class. Everyone scribbled down the notes, and answered the questions.

Suddenly, the door flung open and an unknown figure casually walked in. He handed the teacher a yellow note, and smiled at himself. She greeted him with a smile and announced, "Please welcome our new transfer student," she paused and glanced at the paper, "Zen Wilder."

Mrs. Jefferson stood up from her seat and gestured towards the class, “Introduce yourself.”

I watched his blue-green eyes flicker up to greet the students with an easy smile, “Hey, I’m Zen Wilder and i....like turtles.”

The class burst into laughter, a smile cracked on my lips too as I watched the tip of his ears turn pink while he ruffled his curly dark hair.

Zen muttered a thanks to her and walked calmly ignoring the stares by the class. He walked towards us- to be more specific, towards me and smiled, a very bright smile, "Hey."

I really wanted the floor to swallow me right now, "Hi." I replied, trying not to sound awkward.

Zen took a seat beside me, "I'm Zen by the way." he smiled, while giving his hand out. Well thank you I definitely did not know that.

"Adria." I replied while taking his hand. I could feel the jealous stares of girls on us.

The teacher announced, "I'll get your timetable printed." and left the class. Zen looked around, taking in the dull colors of the classroom and the notice papers pinned on the one corner, completely unaware of the stares.

I could feel my face heating up at the weight of the stares directed at me. Ignoring them, I pushed my frame over the bridge of my nose and continued writing down the notes.

"What did you take?" he asked finally, taking his notebook out.

"Biology, English literature, P.E and Sociology." I answered, "And you?"

"Well, P.E, English lit., Stats and Sociology." I groan internally, we are going to share three classes together!

Mrs. Jefferson entered and handed him his timetable. "Alright class!" she exclaimed, "Where were we?"

"Can I get a pen?" he suddenly whispered in my ear. I jumped out of my skin. Goodness gracious, why? Just why?

"Sure." I gritted while handing him a pen. He seriously needs to know what someone's personal space means.

Time flew by and I thanked the heavens that he wasn't as annoying as I expected him to be.

The bell rang and the students rushed outside the class, I quickly grabbed my books and walked towards the door, "Adria!" a husky voice called me from behind.

I winced and turned on my heels, a smiling Zen waving my pen at me, his dimples were as deep as his smile. I was about to walk towards him but stopped when he stood up and calmly walked towards me.

"Uh, Thanks," he smiled—a bright smile while handing me my pen. I didn't realize he was so tall until now.

"No problem." I replied with a smile creeping up my face, you know some people have those types of smiles which makes you smile back? For sure he was one of them.

"Miss McLane," Mrs. Jefferson called me. I walked over to her trying to remember whatever mischief I did in the past week, I didn't do anything big alright. "You do know the schools 'welcome committee' is on a trip," she said, "So do you mind showing Mr. Wilder the school?"

"Yeah,” I replied, “no problem." I looked at Zen and met his piercing gaze looking back at me, he flashed me another charming smile. Yikes, today is going to be a rough day. I walked out gesturing to him to come with me.

There was this awkward silence growing between us, I seriously didn't want to be here right now. Give me anything else to do but not socializing please.

"So." Zen cleared his throat, "Do you paint?" That caught me off guard and I was about to walk into a concrete pillar, thankfully I saved myself.

"Uh.." I started, why was he asking me that?

"You have got a little bit of paint on your fingers."

"Oh yeah," I said, suddenly feeling cautious, "Yeah I do."

"That's great, I paint too," he smiled sweetly at me, "though I mostly paint portraits."

"I paint portraits too!" I squeaked, “Do you use watercolour or acrylic?”

“Watercolors for life.” Zen placed his hand on his chest, sighing in content.

I showed him all the classes one by one. "Tell me some facts about this place." he beamed.

"Hm.. do you know our neighbors?"

"Yeah, Some great Kingdom isn't it," he inquired, "What's so great about it?"

"The Aldridge Empire." I said," The Queen and our town Mayor are cousins."

Zen looked at me, completely stunned, "You are kidding?" he asked, "That's cool!"

"Yup" I laughed, "And that's the gym class," I added, "I really hate it the most." I said while looking at the room with beige flooring and maroon walls.

"I like it," he commented while looking at it.

"So..tell me about yourself." I asked while looking at him.

"Sure," he replied, "I like painting and love photography," he said, "We moved here from Lochmead."

I looked at him, "Lochmead? Woah." that place is really far from here.

Zen chuckled, "What about you?" he asked, looking straight at me.

The bell rang, "And that's the English class." I announced loudly for him to hear. He nodded while looking at the door.

"Thank you so much," Zen smiled. "What do you have next?"

"English." I shrugged, "And you?"

"Same." he smiled. And we walked towards the class.

The period flew by and we exited the class, Zen had Statistics so we went our separate ways.

I walked towards my locker and placed a few things in it. A group of girls walked past me and one of them whispered, "She was with that new hot guy." All of them squeaked in a low voice. I rolled my eyes and ignored them, then a deep voice from behind my locker's door called,

"Hey Audrey."

I shut the locker door with more force than required, I absolutely hate it when people mispronounce my name. Tyler leaned against the lockers, flashing his snow white smile at me.

"It's Adria." I corrected him with a poker face, he was in my seventh grade, how can he even forget my name?

"Kinsley might have already told you about it," Tyler said while looking down at his shoes.

"Yeah I–"

"I apologize, I didn't really mean it." He cuts me off with his thick accent, his chocolate brown eyes pleading at me, "I already had a date and I knew Kinsley would ask me, and I didn't want her to know my date's name–so when she asked me, you happened to walk by and I said your name."

To be honest i was actually surprised, i mean most of the popular guys in this school are really arrogant and mean and rude and just trash, "Oh, its fi–"

"I'm sorry Adria, I'm totally fine you don't want to come," he raised his hands defensively, "like I'm not forcing you or anything."

"It's cool." I answered finally while looking at him, "I really don't mind it."

He blinked, "Thanks."

"No problem," I replied, "Anyways I'll see you later" I said while tightly gripping my books.

"Yeah," he smiled while standing straight, "Bye."

I entered my class and spotted Vivi next to an empty seat, her face twisted into a scowl.

"Hey Viv." I greeted while taking a seat

"Guess who asked whom to the Galle." Vivi hissed while rolling her eyes.

"I know!" I gushed, "Eugene!" I squeaked in a low voice.

She gave me a dirty look, "You really like him?" she asked.

"Nope," I replied, "I'm happy for you."

"That Wet Sock bloody wanted to be my date," Vivi fumed, "I don't even like him!"

"Well, he's pretty cute though." I teased, "Why did you say yes anyways?"

"For one day I have to be with that maniac, so that I can go with you," she explained, "Mom won't allow me to go alone." I nodded, there have been serious cases about people getting kidnapped and going missing, "Did you get a date yet?"

"You wish!"

The substitute teacher decided to give us a class off. My phone vibrated in my pocket, I took it out and saw a text by Zen...we exchanged numbers that's it. I swear on Vivi's hot chocolate!
