Chapter 9: Ask a silly question and get a death glare

"So, what have you planned?" asked Adaline from Alex.

"Great, I thought you would have planned something," said Alex rubbing the sweat off his forehead.

"You're the elder one, you should lead stuff like this."

"Oh wow, at least once in life you understood that I am older and you should listen and follow me."

"You are a geek! NO, NEVER ever I would follow you. You're the elder one, doesn't mean I have to be your pet," insulted Adaline.

"You talk too much, actually I thought of something but now I am not gonna tell you, it will be MY secret plan."

"No please tell…" Adaline stopped as she noticed Alex left the room without even listening to her.

"Mom, I would like to ask you something," Alex tried to be as polite as possible.

"You want something don't you?" asked her mom with a raised eyebrow.

"No… Not exactly, actually, I would like to get some information," Alex stammered but still tried to be polite.

"Just ask."

"Can you tell me who are the original owners of the bungalow in the woods…" Alex was regretting this talk by every passing second, after listening to this, he was sure his mom would say, 'No'.

"Why do you want to know?" His mom started to get suspicious a little bit.

"Actually, it was a school project."

"Say no more, I will get all the information that you need, otherwise what would be the advantage of having an officer in your house, huh?" her mother smiled as she said.

"Thank you, mommy you're the best," then they both hugged. Alex was surprised by this. His mom really let him do it?

Well, more like someone else will be doing it for him, but it was still surprising. Looked like, his mom was in a good mood.

"It was a lot easy than I thought," murmured Alex. He didn't tell her sister because he was still pissed at her.

Adaline enters and says, "I know about your little son and mom talk, I was eavesdropping."

Alex yelled at her, "How dare you, you really don't respect my privacy, do you?"

Adaline replied, "Dear brother, I eavesdropped because I knew you weren't gonna tell me. For my act earlier, I was pissed at some other things. Unlike you, I have got a life outside this drama too. Your just worry about Salvadora, you can't prove me wrong on this one. Also, it was supposed to be teamwork."

"Whatever, mind your own business," Alex didn't say anything else because he knew his sister was somewhat right.

"Hey Alex, I have got what you asked to find, but it is strange that there is not just one owner, it was built by an unknown person and given as a gift to Mr. and Mrs. Bloodstone, Ms. Pomphrey and Mr. and Mrs. Silverton."

"Wow! Mr. and Mrs. Silverton as in Salvadora's parent and Mrs. Pomphrey as in our English teacher?" Alex acted like he was hearing this for the first time.

"That's exactly what I find amusing, the Silvertons never talked about the ownership of that house, maybe some kind of ancestor thing? At least that's what comes to my mind right now," his mom was very confused.

"The other two are familiar but Mom, can you please get more information about these Bloodstones?" asked Alex. "Yeah, sure I will."

Adaline was still eavesdropping, but this time Alex knew. When his mom left, Adaline came and said, "I think we have done our part, it's just a matter of time we get to know about the bloodstones. Let's ask Sam if they found anything."

Alex said, "I think we should solve the bloodstone mystery on our own and surprise them."

"Maybe you are right this time," Adaline murmured.

The next morning while they were having their breakfast, their mother said "Guys, I have an interesting to tell you, the Bloodstones are actually sweepers that live beside that bungalow, it is interesting that they prefer to live in a wreckage than a bungalow," her mom said like she didn't really care.

"Mom, can we go and visit them? Our teacher would really praise us," asked Adaline sweetly.

"Adaline, you know, you can just ask. You can't fool me with that sweet talk, if I wanted to say no, you wouldn't get a chance."

"After all, she's just a 13-year annoying kid, what can you expect? Alex's words worked like salt in a wound.

"Alex, you don't need to be that mean, You were 13 once too. Adaline, You live in a cop's house, you can get all the help you need, I'll send someone with you to pay them a visit."

"Mom we don't need a bodygu…" Alex couldn't complete his sentence.

"Yes, you do," she gave him a death glare and Alex said no more.
