Chapter 68: The Avatar
" Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years have passed since then and the war continues. The fire nation-."
"Wait.. wait.. wait.. you're telling me I've been stuck in that god damn iceberg for a hundred years! Is that what you're saying little girl?"
"More importantly where in the world are we? There's no way the land of fire became this so called fire nation let alone that half the villages and lands we know of were wiped out of existence to be replaced with water, earth, and air nations. Things don't make sense Ren."
"I have a stunning wife and I'm now a one hundred fifteen year old virgin, that's what really makes no sense. As for all this other crap it's not our problem. I'm guessing the problem is that kid who is pretending to be asleep."
What in the hell is going on here. What the hell did this worlds champion mess with to give a challenger the assistance of a Naruto player? As 'Aang' continued to listen the more confused he became but he could no longer play dead so he got up quickly when he was called out.
"Ahh.. My name is Aang not kid. Also I'm no kid, technically I'm a hundred and twelve years old. You're right though this whole mess is kind of my fault seeing as I'm the Avatar. What I want to know is how two ninja from an outer world are here."
"WHAT!?" Before Katara and Sokka could make a bigger fuss Ren cut them off.
"What the hell is an Avatar? Also what's an outer world? Do you mean a planet?"
"What's a planet or an outer world?"
"YOU COULD UNDERSTAND THAT WORD SOKKA!?"
"Yeah little guy. Had no idea what it was when you said it but the giant translated it crystal clear."
'Aang' was officially losing his mind. What just happened should have been completely impossible. As far as he knew about this twisted little game everything currently occurring should be impossible.
"Also little guy what's the giant fur ball behind you?"
"That's Appa, my flying bison. Stand away from him if you don't want to be covered in snot."
"Right, and this is Katara, my flying sister."
As Sokka said that a pile of snot covered the area in front of the giant beast known as Appa. The snot covered Sokka from head to toe and even managed to land in his mouth. Sokka soon moved to the edge of the iceberg and began vomiting. Katara rushed behind him and tried to water bend some water to clean her brother off. As she did so she asked:
"Aang are you really the Avatar?"
"Yes I am Katara."
"Stop answering their questions and answer ours young man."
'Aang' couldn't help but slightly panic when Tsunade spoke to him. At first he believed this Tsunade and Ren were players who were a real world couple. The fact her and Ren didn't have Sokka and Katara's weird expression when he said outer world proved that. Still everything made less sense the more he analyzed the situation. Despite the conversation so far it seemed they had no knowledge of the game which mad no sense. Seeing as Tsunade was a popular fiction character, Aang decided it was more likely for Ren to be a 'Player" and began to question him.
"Ren have you ever gone by any other names? How did you and Tsunade get here?"
"Answer my questions before bringing up other crap Aang."
"An Avatar is a master that can control the four major elements. Earth, water, wind, and fire. Think of it as having mastery over four elemental releases at birth. As for the planet question. No this is Earth just not your Earth which means you come from an outer world. My questions now."
"Our planet is called Earth?"
"Yes Tsunade as far as I know that's the case. Now we got here because we got caught in a portal. As for other names none well I once called myself Prince Zu-"
The realization hit Ren. This was a world he knew of, not in depth but enough where he should of recognized the names of the people present in front of him. One hundred years in the ice had stunted his memory it seems. This was the world of Avatar: The last Airbender.
The realization was rather terrifying not because he feared for his and Tsunade's life but because he had no idea how they got here. Space Time ninjutsu could allow for some rather insane things and planetary and dimensional travel were things that had occurred in the world of Naruto. Crossing over into a world not connected to Shonen jump however was absurd. As Ren processed this however the bigger problem became clear. Ren quickly gave a glance at Tsunade.
Then vanishing into thin air Ren appeared behind 'Aang' with a kunai against the kids throat.
Seeing this Katara and Sokka began to scream before being knocked out by Tsunade with a swift chop to the back of their heads.
"Who are you 'Aang'?"
"So you are the 'Player'. Please stop then. I have no idea how in the world this Champion screwed with this world to make you appear as a back up but I'm not your enemy."
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"The game asshole. I know you weirdos who marry NPC's like to keep things hush hush from your spouses but if she's here the system will make sure she doesn't lose her mind."
"I don't know what an NPC is but I want to kill him Ren."
"Ditto. What do you mean NPC you little prick if she is so am I."
"Christ what year are you from?"
'Aang' heard there was one or two veterans from when the game started who fully believed the fictional world was their true world. To think he'd meet one of those crazies.
"Like the fifty fifth or fifty sixth year of Konoha?"
"I wasn't being sarcastic, I meant your time on real Earth you prick."
"Never been on any other Earth since my birth. Well I guess now I have? You know anything different Tsunade?"
"Nope. Our Earth is the real Earth as far as I'm concerned."
"Wait a minute are you saying you were born on the Earth of Naruto."
"Yes that's what I'm saying. Now who are you because you can't be the original Aang."
" If you were born on the Earth of Naruto, how do you know I'm not the original Aang?"
"None of your business."
"Isn't Naruto the name of Jiraiya's character in his shitty novel? Why are you naming our Earth after him?"
"It has to do with some prophecy Tsunade don't worry about it."
Hearing Ren's answer Tsunade was starting to become agitated with the situation. All she could do was give Ren a weird look and ask the one thing that would settle her turbulent heart.
"Grandma Mito?"
"Grandma Mito."
Tsunade immediately calmed down after hearing that response. Clearly other questions needed to be addressed but in front of a possible enemy it was better to wait.
"You're not understanding who gets to ask the questions here fake Aang. So who are you, what's this real Earth, game, and worlds crap about. Answer succinctly and stop bullshitting. I don't care what the Avatar means to this world I'll just kill you and move on."
"I can't say my true name since I'll die.
What I can tell you is that on my Earth this world and others are works of fiction. In other words, your world Tsunade is to me what the world in Jiraiya's novel is to you.
In the year 2082 on my Earth a prompt appeared to a few so called Players.
Some call the prompt the Akashic Record, System, God or ,most popular in my country, the Game.
It's a sick twisted thing that pits players against a main character of the world to the death.
A player possesses a being of the world they are sent to. No natural births as far as I know.
Should a player succeed in beating the main character they have three options.
They can become the champion of that world and live there permanently.
Ascend to a new world as a challenger though the ascended can sometimes directly become a champion.
Last but not least you can return to Earth with your loot whatever that maybe.
Becoming a champion is risky as a challenger can appear at anytime if the game decides you're a negative presence in your world. Which results in a battle to the death.
In all honesty it's been fifty years since the game appeared on Earth and we still don't understand how it works or why it appeared.
You able to hear any of that?"
"All of it. You Tsunade?"
"All of it as well."
" That makes no sense at all. If you two are natives you should of heard a garbled mess. What the hell are you!? Say status and see what happens."
"Status"
....
"Nothing happened for me. Tsunade?"
"Nothing."
"This is starting to sound like an elaborate lie fake Aang."
As the kunai began to draw blood Aang screamed: "I'm not lying! I'll prove it."
"Appraisal!"
Ren and Tsunade could feel a weird force cover their bodies. It felt like a genjutsu attack so both immediately activated their Byakugan.

'Aang' recounted everything he saw with his appraisal skill and could not believe the madness in front of him. Somehow two natives had arrived in a completely different world where they were basically Gods. Tsunade was terrifying enough but the man named Ren was even a bit more ridiculous.
'Aang' wasn't being completely honest with the two of these monsters. For one he could say his true name whenever he damn well pleased. The next lie he told was that this was a death game. In reality the game didn't always mean death for the participants.
As long as you didn't suffer massive soul damage it was normally possible for your soul to return to your true body on Earth. Which was the main reason he didn't give his true name. It wasn't uncommon for a sore loser to hunt you down on Earth. Also a champion didn't have to commit any sort of evil to meet a challenger. Such a thing only applied if there was multiple challengers who appeared against the champion. How the game determined evil acts? Who knows.
What 'Aang' did know was that having these two here was a game changer. They may not be advanced players as he originally thought but they were Tier six and seven NPC's. The Avatar he was currently inhabiting was usually only Tier four, in the Avatar state he could reach Tier five. A regular bender like Katara was Tier two and a master was Tier three. Sokka was Tier one and through martial arts mastery could reach Tier two.
The only oddity 'Aang' found while viewing these two was that Ren had a soul trait. Which was a troublesome fact as he could benefit from offing himself or the current champion. How an NPC gained a soul trait? Who knows but this was scary. Players strengthened their soul trait when defeating one another. The winner gains more soul strength and the loser takes soul damage. As long as they don't bottom out they'll live. At least that was the public information available.
"A jinchuriki!? Seriously what the hell did this Champion do in this world."
As the fake Aang said this Ren tried to reach out to Isobu repeatedly.
'Isobu can you hear me?'
'Isobu come on where are you?'
"Check my seal Tsunade something's wrong with Isobu."

Yes we are beginning to explore how Ren even reincarnated. The game won't matter much overall but it does establish why Ren exists. Sort of. More on that later.
