Chapter 16: Part four - Straw Hat Pirates? 4/8

From the sound of his voice, the rest of the pirates came to their senses, after which they together tried to repeat the feat of their comrade, but not fate. On one side of the ship, Johnny cut them off, on the other stood Yosaku, Zoro stood in front of them, and behind them there was only a wall and a door leading to the lower decks of the ship.

- We… we surrender! - Throwing a saber to the floor, one of the pirates raised his hands above his head.

- Y-yes! Surrender! - followed his example another, and then the remaining pirates threw all their weapons on the deck.

- Captain? - The swordsman looked at Luffy indifferently.

- Zoro, really, what are those stupid questions? - taking out ice cream from his mouth, the guy sighed. - You yourself should understand perfectly well who and in what condition we will find on the lower deck, and you still ask? Kill them all.

Considering that neither Johnny, nor Yosaku, nor Zoro himself had any doubts about the exact order Luffy would give, he did not have to repeat it. Nami did not even have time to blink an eye when three bloodthirsty demons literally tore the remaining pirates apart. A couple of them, having managed to pick up their weapons, tried to defend themselves, but with the same success they could just dutifully wait for their fate: Zoro cut the pirates in half, along with their swords displayed in defense.

Freezing to the side, Nami involuntarily swallowed. How long has it been since one group of pirates boarded a ship belonging to another group of pirates? Five minutes? And this along with all the conversations? Five minutes, and the spacious deck, far from a rather big ship, was literally covered in blood and littered with corpses.

- Why ... why did you kill them all? - She asked involuntarily, turning her gaze to Luffy, who was still carelessly licking his ice cream. Nami had already forgotten that she herself was holding ice cream in her hand, which now looked so inappropriate that the girl could hardly resist the urge to immediately throw it overboard.

- Whoever takes up arms puts his own life on the line - the guy replied. - You said yourself that all pirates rob and kill. Since you have been robbing pirates for many years, you should understand that there is some kind of higher justice in this.

- This? - She swept her hand over the deck littered with corpses. - This, in your opinion, is the highest justice ?! - She stared at Luffy in wonderingly.

- Is not it so? - he asked in response, and all Nami's bravado instantly vanished. The guy in front of her did nothing, not a single threatening word or gesture, even the intonation in his voice remained the same. However, the girl still felt her back wet at first, then her legs trembled treacherously, and the surrounding air seemed to turn into jelly, it became so difficult for them to breathe. - Are you saying that you never wished death for Arlong and his gang? Never planned on his death? Never once wondered how to kill him?

Luffy's words turned out to be like a thunderbolt for Nami, because he was absolutely right! For eight years, she has tried to kill Arlong many time, but to agree is to admit defeat:

- This… this is completely different - the girl replied, licking her dry lips.

- Absolutely the same! - the guy shook his ice cream negatively. - The only difference is that these pirates - like Nami a minute earlier, he gestured around the deck littered with corpses - did nothing to you. The key word is "you". Call here the relatives and friends of those whom they killed and robbed, and you will hardly find understanding among them if you start to appeal to their humanity. However, if you want to convince me that I am wrong, - Luffy returned to eating ice cream, - then go down to the lower decks and convince the women there that nothing really happened to them, and they should forgive those pirates who captured them .

- Women? - Nami did not understand. - What women?

Luffy looked up from his ice cream and gave the girl a surprised look over his glasses. Then, apparently realizing something from her reaction, he wrinkled his nose in displeasure. Considering that Johnny and Yosaku naturally groaned after him, he was not the only one to draw the right conclusions. And even Zoro had a strange look on her face, but Nami had no idea what it meant.

- I hate it when that happens - Johnny sighed.

- Especially if we're covered in blood from head to toe - Yosaku examined himself.

- But now it is clear why they are all half naked, despite the middle of the day - added Zoro.

- I don't understand anything - said Nami, rather confused. - What are you talking about?

- Go and see for yourself - Zoro jabbed his thumb over his shoulder, toward the door leading to the lower decks of the ship. - There are seven of them, stuffed in different cabins, so you definitely won't miss.

After hesitating for a few seconds, the girl went to personally look at what the guys were hinting at.

- Luffy-aniki, there is a small Marine base on the opposite end of the island. Maybe we'll just take them there along with the ship? - suggested Johnny, watching Nami going through the door.

- All the same, we should sail there to show the corpses - Yosaku nodded in agreement.

- I'm definitely not going to bother with them - Zoro said, clasping his arms across his chest.

He's doing a similar statement every time a similar situation arose. Which, again, every time, did not stop him from breaking his word a few minutes later.

- Shut up already, damn tsundere - Luffy said immediately.

Johnny and Yosaku's cheeks instantly puffed out to an incredible size, and their eyes went up to their foreheads: only Luffy could openly laugh at Zoro, otherwise one could die. The swordsman himself, judging by the way the katana was shaking in his hands, already half drawn from its scabbard, could hardly restrain himself so as not to pounce on his pleased captain.

- So, to the Marines base? - Johnny asked a little later, when he managed to restrain himself and not laugh out loud.

- To the base - Luffy nodded confidently after a moment's thought. - Zoro, raise the anchor, and you - he said to Johnny and Yosak, - take care of the sails. I'm at the helm ... oh, I feel it will be fun soon! - He stretched his mouth in a wide smile.

By the time the gloomy Nami climbed back to the upper deck, the ship managed to go halfway to the Marines base. When she looked around the corpse-littered deck again, she looked ... satisfied? The guys weren't sure for sure, but they certainly didn't see any signs of pity or any sympathy for the dead. No wonder knowing what the girl should have seen on the lower decks. Or rather, whom she should have seen on the lower decks. Therefore, Zoro, Johnny and Yosaku fully understood why her mood had changed so dramatically. Luffy ... what about Luffy? When Nami and the guys looked at him, he was still carelessly licking ice cream - only the devil knows what the count is and it's not clear where it comes from! - and looked like they had never had any altercation with the red-haired girl.

- We… - Nami began, apparently to somehow destroy the oppressive silence for us, but her voice let her down. Swallowing and taking a few breaths, she tried again: - Where are we going now? The girls ... they need help.

- Don't worry - Luffy replied nonchalantly, - another half hour, at most an hour, and we'll be at the local Marines base. There they will definitely be helped.

Nami nodded silently, she didn't want to talk anymore. And she didn't know what to talk about at all. But, after everything that happened around her in the last hours, she now had something to think about. And the main thing is to make a final decision: to stay with Luffy and his team or not? The girl still naively believed that she had a choice. No, of course, if she had dared to leave, no one would have touched her with a finger, and most certainly would not have forced her to anything. And why? As Zoro, Johnny and Yosaka absolutely knew - they had experienced it on themselves and seen it in action on others! - their captain knew an incredible amount of a wide variety of tricks. If we draw the analogy with cards, then it turned out to be a pure scam! A deck of fifty-two cards? Draw any card other than the ace of diamonds? Yes Easy! The chance of failure is 1 in 52. Here you have to be completely unlucky for this to happen ... the only problem is that if we talk about Luffy, then in the deck he is offered, there will be no other cards, except for the aces of diamonds. The chance of pulling immediately became one hundred percent. Unfortunately for herself, while still being a somewhat naive girl, Nami did not realize any of this. And with all her remaining naivete, she believed that she did have a choice.
