Chapter 10: ~Chapter 8 Nancy's POV~

~Chapter 8~

I heard a knock on my office door. Second case of the day lucky me.

"Come in."

"Hello Mrs. Clem I was wondering if you could help me with my case," James said.

Look at those adorable babies.

"Yes, Officer. You can have a seat ..."

I don't recognize the person who is standing beside James.

"My name is Alex." The young man said.

"Who are the children that you have with you?" I asked him.

"The baby this Officer is holding is Amber and the baby I'm holding is Christian," Alex said.

"When did you find the children and where did you find them?"

It was one of the routine questions I ask as part of the interview.

"I found them this morning after I received a noise complaint from my neighbors. They were outside my apartment door. There was some formula, blankets, and some diapers."

I logged on to my computer and created a new case file. I put in the information Alex gave me. I added the officer in charge of the case and the name of the person involved in the case. There is a checklist I have to fill out on the people involved. The officer portion of it is already filled out due to records that are kept at the precinct. There is not much available to fill out on the babies because there is no information available to us at the moment.

I sent the information packet to the printer and printed out the forms Alex needed to fill out. I ran a quick background check on him and he was clean not even a parking ticket. I reached over to my printer and picked up the form for Alex.

"Please fill out this form for legal purposes."

He took the form and started filling it out. Within five minutes he was finished filling out the form. It is a pretty basic form it asked things like age, gender, medical history, etc... "So here is my professional advice. I will recommend you to a doctor to have a check done on the babies. You do not have to pay for it since it will be funded through CPS. Currently, we do not have any space available in the system to take care of the children since the cases have been piling in due to the weather and season. So if you could take care of the children for the time being until we find the guardian and if need be find a new guardian it will be funded for. We can provide things such as toys, diapers, formula, and blankets. Since growing children need more than that we will be providing sufficient funds to provide for those necessities. So what do you say."

Alex looked at James and then looked at the babies.

"I want to try helping them for the time being until they can find a good family," Alex said with determination.

"Okay. Thank you for helping them. It is highly appreciated. I will schedule the check-up for the babies. I will have the officer escort you to the room where you will be able to get the formula, blankets, and a couple of toys. There will be a check coming to you soon so you can buy them things such as clothes, cribs, and bibs."

Thank you for your help officer and your cooperation, Alex. Have a good rest of your day. Feel free to reach out if you need anything." I said handing him my business card.

"Thank you have a good day," Alex said before heading out. James had Amber in his arms rocking her back and forth. While Alex had Christan who was sound asleep in his arms. I hope they won't have any trouble with raising the babies.

The one thing about cases like these is that the parents are most likely hard to find or not capable of taking care of the child. So sadly the child will be sent into foster care or an orphanage. I truly hope this isn't the case with these babies. The investigation will hopefully find their mother or father and we can decide what to do from there. I started working for CPS when I just got out of college and I had to job and no idea what to do with my degree. When I talked to some friends and family members it led me here to where I am now.

All children deserve to have a happy family and have parents but I learned through working here sadly that isn't what happens in some cases. That's where I try to do the best I can and help children and families find a happy family and get the life they deserve. My job is a difficult one but I love it and I love seeing children be happy.
