Chapter 23: mt. dafan
(Please note the entire drama would not be written down. This chapter focuses only on Lan Zhan's emotions)
"Lan Zhan" Wei Ying calls my name as we stand in the middle of the market. But my focus is not on him this time, it's on those beautiful cherry blossom that leisurely floats mid air and the sweet smell teases our senses.
When I turn to look at him, his face has a beautiful grin bestowed upon and his eyes twinkle. Embarrassed that I was caught looking, I turn to walk away when he quickly pulls the strings of my cloak.
My steps falter, I turn to glare at him. 'No Wei, don't come too close to me, everyone who does, are ripped away'. He leaves my ribbon, and as I turn to walk further, an announcement to woo the Annual Flower Girl is made and everyone around me looks excited.

Why?
Wei Ying's eyes widen and he pulls my hand "come on, we need to see her".

My heart pounds. Never has anyone ever caught my hand. The feel of warmth that emitts from his skin and seeps into mine. A pleasent shiver passes through me and before I could get a moment to rejoice it, he leaves my hand.
It... It looks empty.
They peep around when suddenly, the Yin Iron reacts.
"Wei Ying" I call his name and he immediately turns to look at me. The concern is evident and we immediately leave the place and follow the strongest reaction, which leads us to a burnt garden.
The garden of the Annual Flower Girl. Seems it was destroyed and the Wen clan has already seized another piece.
I look at Wei Ying and back to our surrounding, these people are capable of utmost cruelty.
Be... careful.
"Young Masters" an old man calls out "what are you here for?"
"Have you witnessed any odd happenings around here?" Wei Ying inquires and as the old man ponders, his eyes light up "Yes yes, there is a place called Mt. Dafan, there is a goddess who consumes spirit".
Wei Ying looks at me with his wide eyes and the man continues "no one goes there these days, they're all scared, I would suggest you young boys should refrain too".
We leave the market area and at the outskirts Wei Ying declares "Lan Zhan, I think we should proceed towards Mt. Dafan". I don't answer but simple follow him even though Master Nie HuaiSang chides us from moving forward but in the end joins our troop.
On reaching the place we're led to the inner sanctum of the temple where we see a beautiful idol.
Soul Conjurer
A man walking past by informs us that the Heavenly Lady was once a blessed stone between heaven and earth and gradually took the form of a Heavenly Lady. However, 20 years, a big event occurred and it started snatching people's souls. However, the disaster was resolved by a powerful leader from a prominent clan.
Wen Clan.
"Lan Zhan" Wei Ying calls my name "do you believe in their theory?" I look at him but don't answer. What do I say Wei, this whole conspiracy makes no sense. The Yin Iron near my heart, starts to react and I feel a pain within me, but if I react, Wei would take the metal and then he would endure the (>_<) pain
Lan Zhan, keep it to yourself and due to which I am unable to talk. If I do, I'll wince.
Just when I am about to prepare myself for a deep meditation, the Heavenly Lady statue awakens and a fight ensues between Wei Wu Xian, me and the idol and Nie Huai Sang hides and watches from afar.
As she strikes my first thought to protect Wei Ying and thus every move of mine is to keep him safe. Together we destroy her moves and he finally seals her, and just when we are about to breath a sigh of relief, we hear chorus screech of the soulless corpses making their way into the shrine.
I use my powers to slow them down as Wei casts a barrier to stop them and is going to attack them with his sword, when I stop him.
"Lan Zhan?"
"They're all alive" I point the fact out and he sheathes Suibian.
We make plans to run from the shrine, when we hear a sudden sound of the whistle.
Wen Qing.
She magically subdues them and walking from behind her we find Jiang Cheng.
Wei grins and welcomes him. Looking at me he bows and I show him the same courtesy.
"Lady Wen, is there is a method to save the soulless corpses?" Inquires Wei.
"The only way to save them is to kill the Qishan Wen Clan's owl, as Wen Chao is using it to control the soulless corpses." " She replies looking worried.
"Lan Zhan you and I shall go and track the owl, you three be here" and with that he sprints.
Wei. Why is it that you love to plunge yourself into danger and then expect me to follow you. With no other choice and to save him being my first thought, I follow him.
Following the owl, we reach the dense forest where the fog around us thickens.
"Wei Ying, be careful. Use your senses" I warn him.
Every second my prayer is that you should be safe. Please be safe. Just when I thought we could fight this, he gets dragged by a chain and I follow him. Hawk looking at his prey.
A trick that we both agreed upon for him to get caught in order to effectively kill the Wen clans bird and we immediately leave to join the others.
We head back to find them all gathered together where they reveal they're medicinal practitioners and that once before, even Wen Ning was attacked before by the idol, when he was young and no is knows the reason for the sudden change.
As we bid them farewell, requesting them to seek another place to hide and dwell, fleetingly I remember a child whose innocence shone through the entire ordeal and when he caught my gaze, he gave me a toothy smile. My steps falter and I am pulled back to a similar memory. He waves me goodbye and I quickly wave him too and leave.
