Chapter 16: The Sovereign of Shadow
Getting on track, he clicked Gaaglo's Chroma.
'''Finally, you are going to search for the damned Knights.''' The voice in his mind sounded very irritated. Ethan White seemed to hear an exasperated sigh in his head, but he decided to ignore him this time.
Ethan White was an expert in computers. He instantly moved his hands to the keyboard, using all his newly healed fingers to write 'Ascended Knight' in Gaaglo Search, getting two million one hundred twenty thousand results.
The first few ones were clearly from the news announcing the existence of a Knight on humanity's side and the interview with Laura Lopez.
He moved his mouse and clicked on an article called "Earth got a Knight? You would not believe what happened after" but he instantly decided to close the web page. The content was all about Laura Lopez, her measures, and how many men wanted to marry her.
Ethan White got sick just from looking through the article, shifting to a more interesting one. Or at least, one which matched with what he was looking for.
After a few minutes, he finally could find the news article he wanted. It was named 'Knights, everything you would know about them' and was from a famous news brand.
The news article described everything Ethan White needed to know.
After one became Ascended, their ability could grow. The requirements were not clear, but the suggestion said by Laura Lopez had some true basis.
Training, discovering new ways to use your ability, and increasing the control over your power was the foundation needed to be a competent Ascended. After gaining success on this training, there was a chance your ability could evolve slightly.
After evolving, the Ascended got an increase on the reserves of Stellar Energy in their Heart Core and also improved their ability, allowing the Ascended to use their ability in even more ways.
The Earth Alliance called the Ascended in this stage by the name of "Warrior". At least half of the Ascended Army was formed by Warriors. The Golden Civilization army lines were all formed by Warriors, forming a considerable Ascended Army against Earth Ascenders.
When an Ascended reached the Warrior stage, the Ascended could keep training to reach higher heights. The next known stages were named Knight and Grand Knight.
The names were inspired by seeing the alien's army formations. A General escorted by a trusted number of powerful Ascenders.
This reminded the higher-ups from the Earth Alliance of the knight's title in the medieval age. The old Knights were serving a feudal lord, while Grand Knight was a name for the best knights under the fief.
The details of the improvements after becoming a Knight and the differences with a warrior were unknown, but it was clear from the battles against the Golden Civilization that a Knight could defeat hundreds of Warriors before getting exhausted.
The Earth Alliance's goal was to nurture more Warriors, therefore welcoming more Knights in their numbers.
However, the most important priority was to get an Ascended in the Grand Knight level. Only then could humanity begin to be in a more balanced war against the alien forces.
Nevertheless, the number of Grand Knights in the Golden Civilization was unknown. The Earth Alliance feared that they would start to use two Grand Knights per battle, breaking the balance ever again, or even worse, losing the only human Grand Knights.
Ethan White grew more worried the more he read. He thought that getting Ascended was already a far-fetched goal and a hard one at that. But now, it seemed that being Ascended was only the beginning.
'Warrior? Knight? Grand Knight? I better forget about this and focus on getting Ascended.' Ethan White decided logically. It was useless for him to worry about the requirements to be a Warrior, or even more than that, a Knight or Grand Knight, if he could not even get Ascended.
His first priority was to become an Ascended and awaken a powerful ability. Ethan White was also curious about the abilities classes his master was telling him about the last time they talked.
He heard his master saying that a Stellar Body can get a law class ability. Ethan White wondered about what is a law class ability, and more exactly, how powerful it would be.
If the strongest in the universe, The all-powerful Overlord, could rule half of the existing galaxies thanks to his law class ability, then it had to be a powerful one.
'''About what master are you talking about, young man?''' said the foreigner in his mind. Ethan White almost forgot again about the existence of this tenant in his brain.
He reflected on if he would tell his master about this Sovereign of Ugliness. He was worried the mighty Sovereign in his mind could get mad at him, using any mysterious ability to destroy his mind.
But Ethan White also thought that the existence of the Sovereign of Light as his master was a good deterrent element to avoid troubles and get this foreigner out of his head.
In the end, he decided to tell him about his master-disciple relationship, in the hopes the Sovereign of Shadow would run away and never come back.
'I am obviously talking about my master, Mr. Handsome, the Sovereign of Light. Have you ever heard of him? He is the ruler of an entire galaxy, and he is so handsome that the women who are Sovereigns wanted to give him their galaxies. But he had to refuse for the peace of the universe...'
Ethan White felt a strange feeling inside him after saying these words. He felt closer to his master than ever, as if he was proud of being his disciple. Or even worse, as if he was his master.
Ethan White started to worry about this. Who would want to be some eccentric guy? Definitely not Ethan White. Even if Mr. Handsome was powerful enough to destroy stars, he believed that he could reach that point by himself without developing any weird personality trait.
'''Then, my master has a master? Then what is my position on this relationship?''' said the mysterious being, a tone of doubt in his voice.
