Chapter 8: Revenge, a dish best served ice cold…
I guessed by the sounds of the goblins i had at least a minute or so before i would see them here in this room. There was definitely a lot of them, maybe at least 100 or more… it was safe to assume they also had slimes with them as well…
I needed a way out of this and the inly thing that might potentially help was the spell… i went to my magic tab and saw the ice bolt tab.
"System, how do i cast a spell?"
"Its easy. Starting at the center node you connect the flow of your mana to a nearby node and from that node to another and so on until you form the structure of the spell.
The first ring of 4 nodes is based on the size of the frost bolt. I will highlight the nodes in the menu as i go over them for easy explanation, they are also characterized by the glyphs on them for easy reminders when casting it. Note that you may inly connect to one node here for a stable spell.
The first node, is for a larger bolt, meant to make its impact a little harder, think of it like blunt damage. Able to knock a target back
The second one is for a medium bolt, meant to hit a target and stick, allowing for more cold damage.
This third one is for a smaller bolt, meant to go through a target and hit another one behind the first.
Data on the 4th is corrupted…
The second ring is for speed of the spell and accuracy.

The system continued to explain the node network and based upon the information i had a plan in mind. Given it probably wasnt a good plan as it was going to use 2 data corrupted nodes so the effects would be unknown but hey… worth a shot right?
I slowly gathered my mana for a test of the spell using just a simple fast, small exploding bolt. I put in 20 mana to the spell and let it fly.
It zipped forward insanely fast and hit the wall about 5 feet from the door, not accurate in trajectory but when it exploded upon impact, an area of 25 feet around it iced over.
I felt a warmth touch my uper lip, bringing my hand to my face and wiping i saw red.
"System… what's happening?"
"The spell you cast was very unstable, too much mana for the spells effects was used. Bodily harm will happen when casting an unstable spell… effects vary from as little as a bloody nose like you are experiencing now to you body exploding into pieces."
"Well then… lets hope my experiment spell works flawlessly then…"
I wiped my upper lip again before preparing to cast the real spell. I slowly connected the nodes, and as i did i felt something. I could feel the nodes vibrating, at first they lay dormant, but as i put my mana into them i could feel them vibrate in harmony, and when it felt right i opened up the path to the next node. Starting with the node that had a lot of tiny lines on it in the first ring, the first unknown node, i moved onto the second ring where i began putting mana into the speed node, indicated by a small oval with three dashes coming from the back side of it as if it were a comic book bullet being shot. The next node i went to was the temperature node, a frost symbol. After that was the only other unknown node… it showed a mix of the two symbols for explosion and temperature… it was a major frost symbol with 5 tiny explosion symbols around it, connecting to 5 more tiny frost symbols… the final node was the trajectory node. I somehow knew how to fill it with mana to get the spell to go straight through the boss doors.
Just as i finished preparing the spell the monsters arrived. The burst through the open door in slow motion as i released the spell as i opened my eyes.
What i thought would've been one bolt floating in front of my hand was more like a cloud of tiny ice spikes floating in a cold mist. As it flew i could almost barely watch it fly. As predicted it flew exactly where i intended, right in the middle of the first wave of 20 goblins, shredding into their metal armour and sticking hard.
At first it appeared to do nothing, for a split second at least before a chain reaction started. The goblins who got hit instantly froze over, before shattering sending more ice shards flying into the rest of the ranks of goblins. And the chain continued… all… the… way… in a mater of seconds i was bombarded mentally as the system called out the casualties.
In total i had killed 168 goblins, and 357 slimes… all of them level 15-20… that was a lot of XP… i saw the calculations and was impressed.
50,400 XP from the goblins and 85,680 from the slimes, with an exact average of 100 XP per goblin and 80 per slime… such glorious rewards… a whopping two levels… and then the final system notifications came through.

'Wow… a whole 3 levels from one action… so… good… but… im tired… maybe a little sleep wont hurt…'
The last thing i remembered was loosing my balance and falling before i drifted to sleep.
