Chapter 2: The Deal

David grew up in poverty. If it hadn't been for Lucas, he'd probibly stay in poverty. Being adopted by the great Lucas Wright, son of the magnificant Robert Wright. The guy who created the second grade gaslines. It wasn't something people noticed, but thats where the money was at. David adopted Lucas's ideas in return. Learning about the poverty class and the rich. How the middle class was nothing but an illusion. You either had enough money to live, or you were walking right next to the chopping block.

"David, you're asking for a stock market rig again?" The black figure said. He was talking to Howard, who was a powerful rich guy. Howard had the connections to various campanies and owned two of the three biggest news outlets that exist.

"I don't need the money, I need the stocks adjusted. After the new razor car was sold, our stocks dropped." David said.

Howard leaned foward and the light revealed his left eye.

"You fix that in the chain of command. I saw your razor car line. The reason stock holders pulled out is because you're just following the trends." He leaned back.

David felt his mouth go dry. I screwed up again. Why do I always screw up! Why! No matter how hard I try, I can't live up to Lucas, he thought. He stared at the lamp by his desk. It's dim glow almost seemed to mock him too. Every little thing agitating him.

"Look, I admired your father greatly. A lot of us here see you as…family. I can make a deal with you." Howard said.

David's eyes widened and he rubbed his cheek.

"What do you need?" David asked.

"I want you to find a new champion and make them seem like heroes. It seems the United State's current lead champions are nothing but God damned thugs!" Howard slammed his hand down. David jumped at that. Howard collected himself and combed his hair back.

"Sorry about that." Howard said.

"Can't you just sponsor someone else?" David asked. He knew political parties could sponsor champion teams. It did happen, but teams died quickly and the same broken overpowered champions stayed at the top. They acted like player killers from an mmorpg and nobody could stop them. People even knew these hostile teams by name.

"No. We can't..it would ruin the flow of the hive mind. I need you to create a new hero. Make it happen. I'll send you a list of newbies." Howard said.

An image appeared over his video feed. It was a list of low level champions with a picture of them too.

"Most of these are monsters or half human…all accept The Vampire Princess. She at least looked human. Unless you want that furry or goat man." David squinted at the screen.

"Good, the vampire will work. Make it happen and I'll have them rig your stocks to go up 20." Howard said.

"Sounds like a deal."

The video call ended. David stared at the black box that was left on the screen. He could see his own tired face in that black box.

He grabbed the bottle of spiced rum and poured it in the glass. Then he took it stright. He felt the spice and alchohol burning as it went down.

"Is that why you wanted me here?" It was a clown like voice. He was called Entertainment Knight. He was a champion, but everyone called him Jack for short. He looked like a robot mixed with a royal fool, but he looked more like a cool demon than he did a clown. His fools hat looked like large horns.

"Yeah..I figured he'd ask. We can't stay in champion limbo forever." David said.

"Thats why I find you interesting. The way you think is always fantastic..so whats your plan?" Jack asked. He took a step foward and it thudded out of sheer weight of his metalic armor. David looked puny standing before the metal man.

David had grown up reading comic books as a kid. He knew most comic book heroes were rightious and had some kind of tragic story. Their pride had to be tainted. David called that the call to action and he needed the newbie to have that. The vampire princess may not even be rightious. She may be a selfish whore for all he knew.

"I need you to be her rival..." David smiled as he realized the connection. Joker was a villain that Batman hated.

"I need you to be her Joker and I need you to make her like batman…shit..Vampire princess and Jack..or Joker." David smiled almost laughing at the connection.

"Wait, your joking right? Your asking me to murder her parents.." Jack said.

"No, no, no. I'm asking you to make her hate you. Whatever it takes. Don't kill her though. If you do, I'll have to find another." David drank another shot and smiled.

"Dang that shits strong.. anyways. Keep me updated. If you need help, just ask." David said.

Jack took a step back and bowed.

"This seems long term, so I expect consistant pay." Jack said.

"Consider that done." David sat down.

When it came to running his business. He always felt like he was falling short. Sure the profits were there, but his father did way better than him. His father perfected A.I driving software and he created a operating system that rivaled Windows, Mac, and Linux. All David could muster is car. David made it a habit to seperate any profits made by his dad and grandfather. That way he knew what money was actually his. Even starting with a billion. Making a billion more felt impossible, like a hellish grind. David was on his seventh shot of rum.

"Well, shit…" He told himself. He knew he'd feel it in the morning. Not a hangover, but just groggy enough to not wake up on time. Already, he felt like he was falling short again.
