Chapter 2: Unexpected
Chapter 2
Adolpha ran down the stairs and was about opening the front door to head out when Lupita called her back.
"Here she goes again" Adolpha quietly grumbled as she went back towards her sighing. Lupita hugged her stroking her neatly packed hair.
" Mum" Adolpha whined.
She couldn't wait for her to finish the morning tradition,she doesn't want her to end up ruining the style she invested time perfecting.
"Can I go now mum?" But her mother wouldn't let her leave until she recite the daily morning quote and then end it with "Control you temper,our lives depends on it". Adolpha repeated after her mother as usual before finally bidding her goodbye. Even know she sees the quote unnecessary she knew her mother wouldn't strap it so she chose to oblige.
Everyone knows New York City to be one busy place,especially on a week day such as this. She had been living in the neighborhood for fifteen years and she already know it's nook and cranny, most of the owners of the shops around know her ever since she relocated to the neighborhood at ten. They were all drawn to her unique beauty.
" Oh my god look at those beautiful eyes" Someone once said to her mum admiring her features. The town baker, the comic books store and even the ice cream man were all her friends .
She walked down to the subway station covering as many steps as she could at a time. She kept praying not to miss the subway,running up the stairs at the subway station, shoving people aside here and there she tried to make her way through the tough crowd until she eventually got there.
She entered the train along with numerous people obviously dressed for work as well. Men in shirt and ties and women with pretty corporate dresses.
She remembered how the sovereign tribe dressed in the past, The men wrapped animal skin around their waist to cover their nakedness while women wrap it around their waist and chest to cover up their breasts.
Humans would call the sovereign tribe
'uncivilized'.
She looked around for a convenient seat and found one close to the window so she sat there. She brought out her earpiece and cellphone from her bag and then searched for Ed sheeran's song 'Perfect' on her phone . She had been a fan of his ever since she was in high school,sometimes when she thought of how they were driven out by their tribe,she was grateful because it created an avenue for her to live in the city with her family just like humans.
Learning to adapt with the human world was a bit tough for herself and her siblings while growing up but luckily their mother had substantial knowledge on the conducts of humans. Her mother told her once that she occasionally went to the city with her grandfather when she was younger so she was allowed to mingle with humans and make friends.
Adolpha rested her head on the window,closed her eyes and delve into realm of the song, the song reminded her of her predicament sometimes.
She was 25 and she hasn't been in any relationship all her life,she had several people crush on her and confess their feelings for her but she believed none of them was meant for her,coupled with the fact that it wasn't the way of werewolves.
They can only have a mate once in their lifetime, a 'soulmate' as humans would say.
" How would you know he is your mate" She once asked her mother one afternoon while sitting on the terrace enjoying the view of the city. " You would feel a strong bond and attachment with the person which you can't control or deny even if you are just meeting him for the first time. It would be as if you've known each other for years".
"What if I get to meet him when I'm hundred,when I've gotten old and feeble?" She wondered all of a sudden jerking and startling everyone around her. She became conscious of it, she quietly adjusted her earpiece and smiled at everyone that wouldn't take their eyes off her. She then decided to engage herself in imagining how the interview will go and think about questions that may likely be asked during the interview. "Applying for the post of a product manager is not a joke" She sighed.
When the subway announces her destination she quickly removed her earpiece and kept it in her bag. Few seconds later she got off the subway and walked to the company. She stood in front of the perfume company,tilted her head backwards to read the name written on the gigantic building well. It read 'Just you perfumery", She went into the building praying she would be given a job this time.
As soon as she walked into the building, she met with the secretary and was led to the point where the interview would take place on the fourth floor. She got there,sat down and then saw other job seekers as well.
As she sat down she could smell faint werewolf traces. "They must've be working here in disguise too",her countenance brightened up she felt happy knowing she wouldn't be alone among the humans. Humans are lovely creatures,some of them have warm hearts and smiles that can sweep you off your feet but humans are nothing compared to being a werewolf.
Werewolves are extremely gifted creatures, they have a super strength which is up to ten times that of humans, ever their sworn enemies the vampires isn't as strong as they are,they also have the healing gift which allows their wounds and bruises heal faster than any other creature on earth. Their vision at night is incredible as well.
" Adolpha Winston" She heard the attendant call her name gesturing her to go into the interview hall,she never knew it was going to be a group interview. She entered the hall to see two males and a female,they would be interviewing her .
Adolpha moved towards the seat reserved for participants and stood close to it but before she could greet and then introduce herself,she noticed something was off.
