Chapter 2: Mister Knight

Damien Knight, renowned as the founder of Diamond Co., stood tall in the business world in modern times. His company's fame stemmed from its intricate jewel designs, flawless visual artistry, and keen critique of market trends and consumer demands. This combination not only solidified Diamond Co.'s position but also made it the most formidable competitor to Ace Co.~ Notably, Jewel Ace, now under Ace Co.'s management and rebranded, flourished under Damien's sister, Natalie Knight.

The complexity of Damien and Natalie's relationship can be traced back to their parents' demise. Damien, favoured by their father as the heir to El Rubí Co., had been entrusted with the family business. However, an unfortunate accident reshaped their destinies. Damien, burdened by the sudden responsibilities, made the difficult decision to step back, allowing Natalie to assume control.

As the thirty-first anniversary of Ace Co. approached, Damien received an invitation to the grand ceremony celebrating Ace Co.'s collaboration with Diamond Co. Initially hesitant to announce such an abrupt contact from a conglomerate such as Ace, Damien's assistant, Alex, convinced him of the event's strategic drift for their company's public relations and investor attraction.

The ceremony unfurled in the prestigious Ace Trust auditorium, bringing together industry leaders, design maniacs and huge businessmen. Damien navigated the crowd, encountering familiar faces from his father's era. Memories of his childhood interactions with successful someones flooded back, reminding him of the refined demeanour he had cultivated to navigate such social scenarios.

Engaging in polite but tiresome small talk, Damien was bombarded with intrusive questions about his personal life and his decision to distance himself from the family. These inquiries tested his patience, contrasting sharply with his childhood indifference to such matters.

Despite the exhaustion, Damien continued his interactions, showcasing the charm and courtesy instilled in him through years of training, the toleration and decency he ultimately gained after working with harsh men his entire life. His past experiences as a child now paid dividends as he confidently presented himself and Diamond Co. to the high-profile attendees.

The founder of Ace Co. took the stage, his words recounting a story of ambition, challenges, and unwavering perseverance that contributed to building an empire as huge as Ace. Damien found inspiration in the founder's speech, contemplating new approaches for Diamond Co.'s collaboration with Ace Co., despite existing contractual ties between Ace and Diamond's rival company.

The founder emphasized the need for a successor to carry on the legacy and introduced Megan Smith, his dear daughter to the expectant and eager audience. Megan expressed her vision for the company, promising reforms and unveiling plans for various aspects of multiple projects she had overlooked or known in her father's time. Her speech emphasised the importance of employee interests and fostering better relationships within the workplace, impressing the experienced and just individuals in front of her

Once the speech was over, the night unfolded with people uniting on the dance floor. Damien, feeling the need for a moment of solitude, excused himself and retreated to the balcony. There, he was met with the sight of the star of the night, Megan Smith.
