Chapter 2: Beginning Of Chaos
University is not easy… especially after making a fool out of oneself on the first day… I wish someone had told me that getting into the university is the easiest part.
Honestly I worked my ass off to get selected. Those long nights spend studying, those extracurricular activities I took up…and the application fee, those visa verification… I should have just enjoyed my time.
"The celebrity is here… what are you thinking about?"
"Stop teasing me Anna… I hate it. They are all glaring at me like I'm some alien"
"You didn't answer my question…" Anna was not having it.
"Girl, I'm regretting my decisions. I spend money to come here. I fought with my family and now, I've got people mocking behind my back… it's just the second day and there's tons of assignments. I just want to disappear…"
"YOU REALLY ARE A LOSER"
I turned around.
It's the same guy… The one who on the first day itself, very generously gave me my nickname- CRYBABY.
"Do I need your permission to let out my thoughts, that too to my friend?" I wasn't going to hold back this time.
I could see Anna and Rachel whistling from the side.
"Oohh… seems like someone is getting gutsy. Keep up the good work"
Did he just leave!
In the middle of the conversation…. He didn't even give me a chance to get back at him. This is frustrating.
"Girl, that was great…. I really didn't think you will snap like that" Rachel was talking with a smile.
"I honestly don't get his deal. I mean if I don't like someone I'll try to stay away from them, and here he's just butting into my business all the time."
"I'm sure he has nothing better to do or he thinks he's above us all"
I agree with Anna.
Even though he mocked me yesterday, there was some truth to it. How was I supposed survive in this unknown world if I give up that easily without a fight.
He made sense.
I was actually hoping to talk to him, tell him that he was right
But today, he was wrong. Everyone can feel frustrated and they can vent about it. He's no one to judge it.
My thoughts were broken by the sudden voice of professor.
Chemistry… that was my favorite subject and Professor David was the best in the university. I was happy, by just being able to sit in his class.
The lecture went on smoothly. He's different and his teaching style is definitely different from my teachers back in the school.
I mean he's not following any text and just writing those complicated reactions on the board and explaining. It finally feel like I'm at a university.
"Tanya…"
He was calling me.
How does he know me…?
I stood up.
"Solve this question…"
My hands were shivering. He wants me to answer the question. He is calling me to the podium… they are all looking at me.
There's sweat coming down my temples.
"I was told that you were the champion in some chemistry competition…"
He's looking at me expectantly, not just him actually. There's some hundreds of eyes staring me down.
I took a deep breath. "This is your chance Tanya…."
I finished the question and looked at him. There was appreciation in his face.
"Well done… you're good"
I returned back to my seat among cheers and some disappointed muffled sighs.
And then I heard it.
"I can solve it in much less steps."
There he was, that arrogant jerk. He really thinks he can shorten that reaction.
Anna nudged my elbows. "Not possible." I mouthed at her.
He went to the podium confidently and started writing it down.
4 steps. That's all he took.
The difference between our approaches was evident. My solution was lying next to his, like it's some ocean.
Professor David seemed happy.
"That's an excellent method, Mr.?"
"Jaeson, sir. Jaeson young."
