Chapter 4: A new threat
"Yeah, there is an old couch in the back. Thru that door over there."
Henry yawned and laid on the black old couch, due to this senses being a lot better than before he could not stop smelling the weird smell coming from the couch and his dirty body.
But it did not stop his tiered body from quickly falling asleep. Suddenly he felt like he was floating in a warm liquid and heard the sound of thunder clapping in the sky.
When he opened his eyes he saw the black clouds in the sky, "Oh fuck" was the first thing that came to his mind.
He tried getting up, but there was no ground beneath him like the first time, so he just floated there, waiting for a the demon to appear out of nowhere. But this time no demon appeared.
After a few minutes he thought "This is comfortable but quite boring. The hell do I do here, I feel no need to sleep whatsoever. If I had my status I could at least start thinking on where to use my points, wait, o shit, I can use my stats here.
Maybe this place is not a dream, yeah it probably isn't. What kind of place is this?"
Henry stared at his stats for a while, having one and a half points to put wherever he wanted. "Hmm, I can assume one is the average stat, my mom likes reading a lot so it makes sense her mind stat is high.
My speed, reflexes, stamina, about everything, is exceptional. Two should be at the level of and athlete from the Olympics. The best ones must be a bit above two.
The one point I got from that achievement is actually a lot, ten levels worth, It can make someone average into someone incredible. No, incredible is in another scale now.
I have three in dexterity, I should be amazing, but I could barely react fast enough to defend against the elite mantis, I he didn't kept repeating the same attack I would be gone of this world.
Hmm, one thing doesn't make sense, why am I getting stat points twice. It says it comes from a skill, its probably this godly skills.

Just like he expected a screen appeared in front of Henry describing "Devour (Godly)
Devour is the racial skill that turned many Devourers into demigods demons and also what brought their downfall.
Effects: Devour 1% of the stats of slain enemies of the same rank or above, gaining the stats on level up.
Rank increases: None.
Requirements: Be a devourer.
Consumption: none."
"Yeah it sure is this thing doing, this is like a cheat, maybe all godly skills are a cheat. They are godly after all.
With this skill I basically gain a full level with every kill, the elite almost gave me more than three levels worth of points spread across my stats, and I also got two levels from it.
I got really close to dying so this is a fitting reward for sure, but I will run for sure the next time unless I get stronger or can hit a stealth attack.
Hmm, it doesn't matter how I spent my points I will become strong because this skill. But every game and anime I watched say its better to focus on one or two stats."
Not having anything else to do Henry spent his time trying to remember anything useful, reading his skills and stats descriptions, analyzing what was the best way, going between two decisions again and again.
After more than an hour he decided "Okay, I will become a battle mage, I will focus on dexterity and magic, half and half." To not allow himself to doubt his decision once again he put half his points in magic and dexterity.
"Shit I already regret it, is there no way to go back? Being a full mage would be better. AAAAHHH, this is why I stopped playing mmo games, I can never pick a class. What happened with all my confidence?
Its done, its done? its done, no going back, now you are a battle mage. It was jut a few points, maybe I can just, no stop, its already set."
Henry stared at the sky for half hour, thinking on what he should do when he woke up, but life ended his plans very quickly when he woke up to sound of gunshots and mantis screeches and other monsters howls.
He took the knife he left on the ground and looked at his father, who was getting up from the box he was seating with a scare.
There where several gun shots from several guns that continued until there was no more sounds of monsters.
Henry whispered "I will check it out, be ready to run."
Richard whispered back "No, you stay, I will check."
"No, I am faster than you. Just get ready." Before Richard could rebuke him he walked out of the room.
He slowly walked towards one the store glass walls and looked from above the shelves, seeing two army trucks and four gunned army jeeps and a stryker.
Army man walked around, shooting any remaining monster that tried to attack them. No monster seemed to have a chance against the power of their guns.
Suddenly something huge and heavy fell from the sky right on top of a truck, smashing it and creating a hole in the ground.
An abnormally strong shock wave send the other heavy army vehicles and the unlucky soldiers flying, turning into a splash of blood and guts on the place they hit.
The soldier that was approaching the gas station store had his head blown by rock that flew like a bullet.
The window in front of Henry cracked in many parts as his legs trembled in fear. A tremendous oppressing red aura surrounded the monster that blew the streets.
The shroud of dust in the air barely allowed him to see a red hairy gorilla arm taller than a house.
Was it an act of courage or of fear, Henry did not knew, but sure made him relived when a soldier emptied a clip on the monster, grabbing its attention.
Even with his incredible vision Henry only saw a big red flash moving thru the streets, the sound of an explosion happening a few meters away right after.
Henry collapsed on the floor, breathing heavily, no knowing when he had stopped breathing.
Richard who was watching him in front of the door passed out, falling on the ground like a rag doll. Hearing his father falling Henry turned around with a scare.
"Dad? Dad! Shit" Henry mustered all the strength he could, got up and walked, recovering a bit on the way.
He got on his knees and said, "Dad, hey dad wake up, Wake up!", his hands moving awkwardly in the air as he didn't know what to do.
Having not suffered any severed injury Richard woke up with Henry shouts. Henry released a relived sigh when he saw him open his eyes "Thank god, are you okay dad?"
Scratching his head that had hit the floor, he sat up and asked "Ugh, what happened? Did I pass out?"
Worried Barbara, who was completely paralyzed even while inside the room, looked outside and immediately got a lot more worried when she saw the two seated in the ground, activating her healing light for a second without noticing. She asked "What happened? Are you two okay?"
Henry responded "Yes, but we need to get a car and drive out of this city as fast as possible."
Josh who was listening immediately got excited "We are leaving? Like right now, thank god. I don't want to be in city with dragon and those mantis."
"The dragon is not the only problem anymore, things are way worse than I thought."
Richard asked "What exactly happened, what monster was that, it had such pressure."
"I don't really know, I didn't get a good look because of the dust. It was huge, taller than a house, Red like all the other monsters, It had this tall thick arm, like a gorilla arm but with, with sheep? Yeah red sheep fur.
I don't know if it jumped really high or it knows how to fly, but it definitely fell from the sky. It didn't had to do anything else just the shock wave ended the whole army operation.
We don't have time to be talking about this. I don't think it will, but it might come back, we have to get out of this city as fast as possible. We need a car."
Josh stuffed his chest and said "I got just the solution, my house is a RV, its in the back. Oh wait no, you can't use it, its, its dirty, not its not working.", his face almost went full red with embarrassment.
