Chapter 24: Chapter 24 That is a lot
Jack couldn't believe the amount of evolutions that just took place before him. His friends pinched themselves to make sure they weren't dreaming.
The group all realized it just happened. Seven different kobolds just evolved in the same round. Jack immediately took action to safeguard them and put them in their houses for the evolution to finish.
With seven kobolds out of the competition only 25 kobolds remained for the fourth round. Jack as the leader gave a many of the kobolds a pass due to this sudden change.
With the third round finishing most of the kobolds started to head back to their burrows to sleep for tomorrow.
Both Ryan and Xiao kept observing the evolution with clear jealousy in their eyes. Sighing to themselves repeatedly before they eventually turned back to Jack to relax for the rest of the night.
As with the evolutions before Jack continued to bless them throughout the transition.
Both his friends had different attitudes towards the evolutions. Since Jack was preoccupied with taking care of them he was unable to cater to his friends. With one left conversation partner and Ryan also being interested due to wanting to learn more about this.
As having more diversified knowledge when he ascending will make it easier for him to comprehend the knowledge role. So Xiao was stuck bored as his two friends continued to observe the evolutions.
Xiao noticing this will take a while wandered off into Jack's realm exploring more but mainly towards the river.
As he has a role associated with water his natural fascination for water sources are greater than Jack or Ryan's interest.
Xiao watched the movement of the river and studied it as the night passed. Jack and Ryan having no interest in the fights anymore didn't notice Xiao's missing presence. As the leader took care of the tournament without his instruction Jack stayed in the burrows to keep watching the kobolds.
Xiao felt a connection with this river unlike anything before this. With this natural body of water that feels to contain untold power and passion. Xiao slowly got lost in this connection as the height of the river started to increase.
Xiao was slowly submerged in the water not waking up as if the water was weightless and welcoming. He felt a slight rejection from the earth around him that started to grow in power. still absorbed by this new state Xiao became angry at this power that tried to defy him. That tried to stop his river from flowing.
Xiao's mental state slowly fused with the river as a new rejection came from the air itself. As if he was suffocating Xiao's anger grew and with it the river itself grew. Until finally Xiao's normally calm mentality broke as he unleashed his divine ability sparking a tidal wave several meters in height in both direction of the river.
Jack was observing the evolution when he felt like he was losing something that belonged to him. As he quickly regained his wits as he exited his state of extreme concentration. Jack looked around confused noticing that Xiao was missing.
Innately following that feeling that is persisting he flew up into the air and went towards Xiao unknowingly.
Jack approached the river and noticed the tidal wave that was approaching the burrows of his believers. If the tidal wave hit the burrows the kobolds would either drown or be crushed by the force of the wave.
Jack tried to identify the source of this occurrence since he had an idea. Nothing in this realm could have caused this besides his friend.
Jack flying over the river quickly identified that the location in which he felt the loss of control from was the river itself but mainly in one specific part. Flying towards this part Jack spotted Xiao and noticed his eyes were glazed over.
As if he were unconscious.
Shaking his friend awake after taking him out of the river while also manipulating his realm to take back control Xiao awakened.
Xiao hazily looked up seeing Jack next to him.
"What happened?" Xiao asked genuinely confused since he went to the river and then everything became hazy and he felt like he found something close to him.
"Nevermind that quickly stop your tidal wave!" Jack said with high volume as the worry grew on his face with every passing second.
"WhaaaaaTTTTTTTTTTT!" Xiao stood up confused and quickly looking around noticing the currently collapsing waves harming everything in their path.
Immediately controlling the waves to disperse as fast as possible the wave crashed straight down splashing water in all directions.
Xiao looked into the distance shocked at what was happening. Did he use his ability against his friend but why would he ever do that.
Looking at Jack Xiao's worry decreased seeing that Jack didn't look that angry though maybe it didn't set in yet.
Jack rushed towards the several burrows hit by the waves. Noticing that many were empty Jack sighed in relief though cried with each death. With tens of kobolds dead many young or newborn alongside several adults Jack knelt on his knees crying.
Though it wouldn't affect his tribe overall much it still hurt to see the deaths of his believers against something he was powerless to defend against. Without spells capable of blocking the waves the only way would be for him to descend personally though this would destabilize his newborn realm and cut off his path to godhood.
Ryan walked outside of the burrow with the evolving kobolds noticing his friend crying on the ground with Xiao's head hung low behind him. Noticing the water around his friends and making his own guesses Ryan began to rush towards Xiao.
Xiao was looking at the ground behind Jack feeling lost, confused and sorry for what happened. As he was contemplating what happened his view suddenly turned to the sky.
Confused Xiao looked at his friend standing at his feet wondering why Ryan just hit him.
