Chapter 2: I Embraced Something But It's Not A Woman!

In an unknown street somewhere in the Philippines, a man can be seen limping. Rain is pouring down heavily and he looks extremely drenched, a telltale sign that he has been walking without any umbrella or raincoat for a while now. He didn't seem like he mind the cold weather as he kept on holding his stomach with a hurt look on his face. However, despite the hurt expression, the man didn't slow down his hasty steps at all. It's almost as if he wanted to run away from something.

While he is walking down the street with haste, a blinding amount of light suddenly blocked his vision. Then, as the light starts to fade, it was replaced by a warm light that seeps through his very core. It was a very weird feeling as he felt like he is being enveloped by something but he can't exactly pinpoint what it was that's enveloping him. It gave off so much warmth that he felt like he could sleep all day.

Just as he was about to fall asleep, he suddenly felt a slight jolt travel through his body, effectively waking him up from his dazed and sleepy state. He looked around him in a confused manner, not knowing how to react at such a sudden change of scenery.

He can't seem to recall who he was but he still could vividly remember what happened before his surroundings changed. He couldn't remember who his family is, despite knowing that he definitely have one. He knew he had good friends and acquaintances but he couldn't recall their faces nor their names.

He still could remember his outlook in life that has been honed through the years and the common sense that he developed while growing up. His likes and dislikes, his hobbies, he even remembers his love for basketball but he just couldn't put a finger on what was it that caused him to forget the things that he forgot.

As he was contemplating about the bizarre incidents that he got himself into, he suddenly heard a robotic voice reverberate throughout his surroundings.

「Greetings, mortal. I see that you finally arrived in my domain.」

"Umm… who, exactly, am I speaking to?"

The man was still confused and didn't know what to make out of his current situation. All he could do is slowly cope up and ask his questions in a slightly meek manner to this really suspicious voice that suddenly talked to him after he arrived in this place out of the blue.

「You mortals have that thing called Kardashev Scale, correct?」

"Yes? Uh… right! Are you talking about that scale thing that categorized civilizations based on the energy they harness… or that is what I remember," the man replied, unsure of what else he could say.

「Affirmative. That is the scale that we are talking about. In that scale, which has seven(7) levels, we should be categorized above the Type 6 civilization that you mortals speak of.」

The man was speechless. If he remembers it correctly, a Type 6 civilization is one that exists OUTSIDE of time and space, and is capable of creating universes and multiverses, and destroying them just as easily. It's similar in concept to a deity. Meaning, this robotic guy is saying that 'they' are even above that?

Even though the man was confused, the robotic voice still continued and explained a few things to him. This was a great help for him as he finally understood what is going on.

'So, I embraced something, huh. A pity, though. If it was a woman, I would've welcomed the embrace with open arms. However, it was death who embraced me and not a woman!'

The robotic entity explained to the man that he was transfered to this space right after he died in his 'plane'. It also explained that it was due to a slight deviation on the system that 'they' created that the man experienced those life threatening attacks.

It further elaborated that this normally wouldn't happen. 'Their' calculations are precise and there normally wouldn't be any deviations or errors. However, due to a large Type 6 civilization starting an all out war, the 'safety net' that 'they' created to protect the spatio-temporal reality from going haywire was slightly affected, resulting in the unusual happenings that transpired before the man's death.

In short, it was just bad luck and pure happenstance that the man was in the exact location where that error occurred, resulting in his life being taken. Who knew that the death flags that he encountered was the result of a war among a civilization that could wipe out entire multiverses with ease.

「As this was all due to a deviation on our otherwise omniscient calculations, we will grant you the wish that you so wanted as 'compensation' .」

'They' put heavy emphasis on the word "compensation" since the word was foreign to them. Although 'they' are omnipotent, they never experienced a time when they had to compensate someone due to their errors. Their calculations are just that precise and accurate.

Before the man could ask whether he had a choice about where he would be sent to or what his 'compensation' will be, the man was already sent away from the realm. He was briskly thrown out of the realm without a care about whether this action is safe or not. It then proceeded to do what it was doing before the man came without a pause.

Suddenly bringing the man in 'their' realm and then throwing him out after 'they' finished their piece. 'They' are definitely a 'my pace' omnipotent entity.

Inside a luxurious room, a boy around 4 years old can be seen. He is laying down on the extremely comfy looking bed while stretching out his short little arms and looking at his outstretched hand.

"Four years have passed since 'I' arrived here. It's somehow weird to remember your 'past life' like it happened just yesterday inside your head."

Yes. This was the man who got briskly thrown out of the space of the weird omnipotent entity. He was reincarnated at an unknown place similar but slightly different from Earth with only a note telling him what his compensation was. Take note that he only knew about these a few days after he turned three.

Due to this really weird experience of 'merging' with his past memories, the boy felt himself change, albeit slowly. Because of the gift given to him by the entity, the process of him digesting his past memories progressed smoothly. Unlike those reincarnators that you would normally read about in novels, this boy just took his past life experience as a learning experience.

Also, he's been doing some research here and there regarding which world he was thrown into but to no avail. Despite the prestige and connections that his current family have, he still couldn't find a concrete clue as to where he is. But…

"I do know that this world is, weirdly enough, very focused on basketball. There's also the words that 'they' said."

He once again looked at his small outstretched hand before whispering, "This 'compensation' was a bit much though. Don't tell me, 'they' only give out the best of the best quality 'compensations'?"

He then let out a chuckle at his thought before sitting up and looking at the unnecessarily large door.

"She's here, huh… Guess it is around that time already."

Right after he finished talking, a high pitched voice rang throughout the corridor just in front of his door before it was pushed open by a woman who seems to be a maid judging by the European style maid dress that she is wearing.

"Onii-chama~! Rena is here to play!"

"Excuse us, young master. Young miss insisted on opening your door as soon as possible so we entered without your permission first. Please, do forgive me for not asking for your permission first."

The rambunctious blonde little girl with a short bob cut — with two longer forelocks framing her cute little face — and crystal-like baby blue irises ran towards the boy as soon as the door of the room opened. She wore a light blue colored little princess dress with a simple design and a simple black hairband on top of her head. Meanwhile, the maid who accompanied her apologized to the little boy sincerely before looking at the two of them who are hugging each other with a gentle smile on her face.

The little boy, on the other hand, patted the little girl's head while hugging her around her waist to prevent her from moving around too much.

"There, there. Calm down Rena-chan. The beautiful princess dress that mom gave you for your 3rd birthday will be ruined if you move around so much."

The little boy warned, all the while patting the little girl's head. The little girl squinted her eyes in satisfaction before softly letting out a voice of complain.

"Eeehh~. But but, this is a special day for onii-chama and Rina! Amusement park, Tisneyland!"

"Yes yes. We'll be going there with mom and dad so you have to be a good girl and wait patiently okay?"

Seeing the smile on his face, the little girl also showed a cute and happy smile of her own.

To be continued…

[A/N¹: This chapter was better than I initially thought it would turn out to be. No mentions of his power just yet. The reveal will be on a later date.]

[A/N²: Yep, unlike other reincarnators, our MC just acknowledged 'the man' as the 'past him' and took his 'past life's experience' as a learning experience, not becoming like 'the man' entirely. If I remember correctly, reincarnators should be depicted like this in ancient literatures. Oh, might I add that they never received any of their past's memories?]
