Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Jasmine’s First Training Day

The weekend was over, and it was Jasmine and Lily’s first day on their job training in the factory. Jasmine and Lilly were both excited and worried at the same time. As part of their training course, they needed to provide an intensive report about various factory management departments. To pass this training course, they were required to find a problem, suggest a solution, or propose an enhanced way to better performance. In case they fail this, they have to retake it the following summer. This meant they could not graduate unless they pass this training course.

Janet had spoken to Jasmine’s professor, Janet’s close friend, and the professor assured her that Jasmine would pass as long as the report was provided, even if it did not present a solution.

When Jasmine knew about this, she got mad at her mom. "I am not a three-year-old girl at kindergarten mother. I don't need your recommendations." She complained.

“No, dear, it is not like this. But I guess the way your college works is not fair. You cannot judge someone’s performance on two-month training. Plus, you study business administration to look after your father’s business. So once you graduate, your place is your father’s company, not a factory.” Janet explained to her daughter, Jasmine, why she acted this way.

“Your father is getting older. His business is getting expanding more and more. So he needs help, and it should not be provided by strangers.” She continued.

Jasmine did not like what her mother did. She felt that even her mother did not have faith in Jasmine’s abilities and skills. However, this made Jasmine feel more relaxed compared to Lilly.

On their way to the workplace sitting in the car's backseat, Lilly held many notebooks, papers, and she searched in her bag to make sure that she had what she might need. She noticed that Jasmine was looking at her, wondering what Lilly was doing.

Lilly said, “We need to write every single thing we come across. After 2 months we will write a report, paper.....”

“Gosh, Lilly. It is 07:30 in the morning, and you have this energy to talk and think… Are you a normal person?” Jasmine turned her face to look at the road.

“You are not a morning person… I am not sure if a person is even the right word to describe you. Jeesh.” Lily said and then she looked up at the sky and said, “Please, God, help me passing my mornings with this creature.”

Jasmine ignored her and kept looking at the road. Then she decided to comment on Lilly's sentence, “You know what, lucky you, I cannot function well in the morning. Else I would have acted differently.”

Lilly and Jasmine arrived at the workplace, and the receptionist showed them around. Then they entered a small office with two desks.

“And here is your office. I have provided the needed stationary, but if you still require anything else, please feel free to ask me. You need simply to call my extension 264, and I will assist you. Your supervisor is Miss Lynda. She starts at 11:00, and she will have a small meeting with you once she arrives. “The receptionist said.

"We need to wait till 11:00. We will do nothing till then. Why did we start early?” Lily exclaimed and looked at Jasmine, who replied, “Okay, thank you. We will let you know if we need anything.”

After the receptionist left, Jasmine said, “Hey, we are not at university. There is a working hour system here that we need to follow. Your silly comment made us look stupid. We need to act like grownups.”

Lily got embarrassed. “I did not mean this, but it is our first day, and we don’t know what to do. They should have requested from us to come later. That is all. Plus, you are so scary in the morning, Jasmine. So if they had asked us to come at 11:00, I would have a better time with funny Jasmine, not the creepy one.”

Jasmine did not like Lily’s last sentence and said, “Don’t try to sound funny,”

Lily was still embarrassed, feeling that she acted childish in a work place. Jasmine sensed it, and she felt that she was a bit harsh on Lily the whole day. “Sorry Lily. You are right…but really, I cannot function in the morning. And what makes it worse; I did not have coffee yet.” Jasmine said.

“I did not eat also; I am hungry,” Lilly said. “Let us check with the receptionist if there is a canteen here. We can waste time there till this Lynda comes,” Lilly suggested.

“Good idea.” Jasmine agreed and picked up the phone to call. Then she looked at Lily and asked, “Do you remember the receptionist’s extension number?”

“No.”

“I am not a morning person, and I cannot function without coffee. But what is your excuse, Lilly?” Jasmine wondered.

“I cannot function without food.” Lilly replied.

“You know what, let us go outside. We will ask whoever we meet about the canteen.” Jasmine suggested.

“That is better.” Lily agreed.

They left the office, and they met the receptionist in the corridor. “Hi again, we are wondering if there is a canteen here.” Lilly asked.

“Yea, we have one on the last floor, and it is open now. But this one does not serve lunch. For lunch, each floor has a small canteen located by the end of the corridor.” She pointed out to show them where the canteen was located. “Our canteen is the best because we are located on the garden floor. During summer, it is open in the garden, and it has amazing seating areas.”

The receptionist continued, “The lunchtime starts from 12:30-15:30. Also, you can call 000 if you need to have coffee, tea or water. The pantry guy will bring it to your office.”

Lilly’s stomach started making noises, and she hid behind Jasmine. Jasmine heard this, and she tried to hold her laugh. “Ok, thank you. This was useful.” Jasmine said.

They both started walking fast to reach the elevators to go to the canteen. When they were far enough from the receptionist, Jasmine looked at Lilly, and they both started laughing.

“I thought she would never stop talking. Gosh, she talks a lot. I am that close to eating anything that moves.” Lilly said.

“Yea, I know. Why do we need that many details? Just stick to the point.” Jasmine said.

“Why did not she tell us the same when she showed us the place?” Lilly asked.

“Exactly.”

They reached the fourth floor where the canteen was. This floor was a large terrace overlooking the mountainside of the town. It was decorated in a very cozy and comfortable way, alongside the view and the smell of the fresh pastries and coffee, making it so dreamy.

“I can smell the fresh air here; it is amazing.” Lilly paused a little, and she looked at Jasmine and continued. “The view is way better than your boyfriend’s café.”

Jasmine looked at Lilly. “Don’t be silly. Rayan is not my boyfriend.” And they both went to the food bar.

“Great, in this case, I will call him my boyfriend.” Lilly chuckled.

“Well, let us find him first, and then we will decide what will happen next.” Said Jasmine.

“You know what, even though I have not met him yet, I wonder how he looks like. Alex, your ugly guy, is so gorgeous. So I wonder how this handsome guy looks like. I am so curious.” Lilly pulled out her sugar and spoon for the tea, with a cheese croissant, and headed to the cashier to pay. Along with Jasmine who held her coffee.

“Believe me, Lilly. There are no words good enough to describe him… not only the way he looks but his voice…is like Oh My God.” Jasmine said.

They sat and kept talking about Rayan, this town, their training, and many other things. The time flew, and they did not notice that the clock was already 11:00.

Jasmine looked at her watch, “Oh, it is already 11:00. Definitely; Miss Lynda is here; let us go.”
