Chapter 11: Tradition and Values

Tezariah nearly stumbles out from the chair when he heard what Mikasa said. He now understood why everyone looked at him differently. The only question he had was why did she start calling him daddy.

Seemingly to be reading his mind, Mikasa answered. "Whenever we do an awakening, it is usually our parents who helps us. In cases where our parents are missing or dead, someone adopts us and do the awakening. Only the closes family member does this. Meaning, when you helped me, you have presumably adopted. It is after all an Elven custom." She looked nervously at Tezariah as if knowing that there was a chance he would reject it.

Luckily, Tezariah knew very well how important was family to Elves. The process of making children was long, and arduous. Sometimes families would not have children until they were a century old. Thus to them, abandonment of children was a great humiliation and taboo.

"Uhmm. Why don't you just call me Big Brother then?"

"But...."

"I'm not that old, I'm still just in my 20s. Other people might think wrongly." Tezariah explained.

"Okay!" A wide smile appeared in Mikasa's face. It seems after the awakening, she has matured. Everyone continued to eat albeit the somewhat awkward moment that occurred.

What everyone didn't know was this simple adoption would give birth to one of the greatest and youngest Elven Wizards ever born, one who even transcended beyond. One could even say that she revolutionize the ideologies and approach to magic of Elven society and gave birth to the "First Ascension Age" among Elves.

///Midnight///

Meditating immediately felt his minor breakthrough. Now at the 2-Star Great Wizard, he felt a sense of achievement. Although he knew that it was only a matter of time for him to reach this stage in his past world, this world has hastened it by more that twice. Furthermore his research in his new magic has also achieved something within the past few weeks. Now he has created atleast four Great Wizard-level spells.

The first one was [Star Burst]. He managed to get inspiration from watching an anime where a character was enveloped in fire and it bursts out at a multidirectional area. But rather that multidirectional, he developed it into a multiple precision shot that never ran out unless he cancel it or loses all his mana. He liked this spell as it allowed him to make precise target that wiped out multiple enemies on multiple angles.

The second one he called simply as [The Cloak]. This spell on the other hand was learned through random testing. It was different from normal hiding magic in that it conceals the presence and life essence of all affected by it. The more convenient thing is this spell is a mass-casted type. One could say that he could move an army undetected even by gods. Unless someone rips away the magic in an area or had an overwhelming aura that disrupts aura, this spell won't be broken.

The third spell was more different as it was a collective spell he called [Gravity's Embrace]. It uses gravity in a different level. Rather than just directly controlling gravity, it affected the World Law and created it. This meant that even in places where there is no gravity, he could create gravity for his own use.

The last spell he managed to make was a supportive spell. He got this idea from watching medical dramas being shown in the television. He named it [Book of Medicine]. It was a spell which allowed him to have a separate reservoir of mana and keep knowledge about Healing Magic, health practices and even surgical treatments. This gave him a talent for Healing and would be vital for his future fights. What's better is the reservoir. It allowed him to use healing magic or even when he has totally consumed his mana from a fight. This keeps him capable of dealing with the aftermath casualties, if there was, in a fight.

Tezariah felt his magic was still lacking though and was racking his brain for possible inspirations to draw from to create spells. He wouldn't just use any inspiration and won't create any magic that he felt wasn't flexible enough. He decided to ask Yuria or even old Tenzo for books or videos related to such. Apparently this world has a cognition of the magical and as such, the world had a somewhat an underappreciated culture of ideas when it comes to magic.

///In another room///

The three elf children slept early in one room but tonight, the lights were open. The three apparently were talking about the awakening.

"Of us three, only I haven't awakened." The silver-haired boy, named Gin was sad. After all, every elf was excited to have their own awakening as it marked the time they were matured.

"Don't worry. Remember that you're the youngest. There is no need for haste. In fact, my grandfather once said that the longer the awakening was suppressed the more mature and powerful the awakened elf will be." said the golden-haired named Akashi.

Mikasa nodded and encouraged Gin. Of them three Akashi was awakened at the age of 28. That was equivalent to an eight year old human. On the other hand, she awakened at the age of 42. The average awakening starts at around 25 years of age among High Elves, 27 among Dark Elves and a whopping 37 among Wood Elves.

The reason wood elves takes too long is their connection to the World Tree is strongest. So much so that it suppresses their awakening. Of course this late awakening is a con at first as they cannot use stronger forms of magic. On the other hand, after awakening, Wood Elves become terrifying wizards. Most of them do not even step the lower mid-ranks of Wizard Chosen to Wizard Prince or Princess and directly promote to Wizard Kings or even, like Mikasa's case, a true Guardian-ranked Wizard. Although of course they did need to learn magic.
