Chapter 2: Misfit

The day of the entrance exam didn't help Rosetta at all. She's nervous and her heart is pounding even before the sun rises up. Her nerves are restless and it woke her up when the dawn broke.

Rosetta isn't interested in joining the academy. She would rather plant vegetables and sell them on the streets than attending the prestigious school that only those gifted are allowed to enter to. It was her father's wish for her to enroll at Belladonna Academy where one's future is secured and with their kind of lifestyle, her father wanted her to at least have some decent clothes to wear and complete meals a day. Since the school grants food rations for the families of those who will be accepted as students of the academy. That very benefit her father wanted for them. And Rosetta can't just say no to that glimpse of hope even though she's unsure if her magical powers are enough to secure a spot at Belladonna Academy.

"Do you think we would pass and get accepted at the academy?" The pale blonde girl asked her seat mate.

"Of course, dummy! Why do you think my family sent those gems? Of course we'll get accepted." The other answered with utter confidence.

Rosetta can't help but eavesdrop to the two girls sitting adjacent to her seat. The two wore the nicest dress and judging from the way the seat and drink their cup of tea, they are no doubt royalties.

Rosetta gripped on the hem of her off-white dress that has dirt on each side. The only decent dress she has. She pulled her sweater tighter to her body and watched everyone around her, get together and chat. Meanwhile her seat is deserted, no one wants to befriend a commoner like her.

"Look at her, sitting all by herself. Poor little farmer." Someone whispered from behind her. It was followed with mocking laughs, obviously they were talking about her. Rosetta chose to ignored them and grabbed her favorite book from her bag pack and continued reading to where she left off.

"She definitely heard us but she acts like she didn't." The same voice echoed behind her.

"We shouldn't get too close. They're known to be quite a clepto." The other one snickered. And that hit Rosetta's nerve. She immediately closed her book and stood up, making a loud noise when her chair moved from her sudden stance. Rosetta turned around and saw everyone staring at her. But the blonde girl with pink highlights who's crossing her arms on her chest smirked at Rosetta. The girl who said she's a clepto.

"Good morning everyone." A high-pitched voice interrupted Rosetta and the rich girl's stare fight. "I see that you're all getting along." She added with much sarcasm.

Rosetta and the rest of the incoming first years turned their heel to see where the voice was coming from.

"Hi. I am Carnation, the vice headmistress and I am very much happy to see new faces around here." The lady in her mid thirties smiled at them. She was wearing a very much elegant powder blue dress that flows whenever she moves.

"Suit up and follow me, I'll lead you to the hall where you'll be having your standard examinations." She gestured for everyone. Rosetta hurriedly packed her things and put the strap of her bag pack on her shoulders. Someone bumped her even before she started walking, the same rich girl. Rosetta ignored their gazes and followed the rest of the students.

Miss Carnation lead them to a huge building where the school's banners were hang on each corner. The marble floor and the huge pillars sent an awe to each and everyone.

"Welcome to Belladonna Academy." Miss Carnation muttered after opening the huge champagne double doors in front of them. Rosetta was in awe once more as she saw the marvelous hall. There are six flowing scrolls above the paintings on the wall and it glowed even without light.

"Here in Belladonna Academy, we grouped everyone according to their magic. We have six sections that abide each system." Miss Carnation snapped her fingers and the scrolls flowed down and rested on her right side.

"These are the six sections where each of you will belong to; Lumiere, Shifter, Lingual, Intel, Elemento and Centre. Each sections have two ranks; the flags and the wingless."

Everyone started whispering after the vice headmistress mentioned the two ranks. Rosetta who's new to the Academy's system is slightly puzzled. She clearly doesn't have any clue about the sections and specifically the ranks. But one thing's for sure, she can't fail.

The vice headmistress let them sit on the bleachers inside where all the students from higher years are. Everyone's inside, including the staffs and the professors. They are all seated on the platform, in front of a magic circle where each newbies will show and perform their magic.

Rosetta sat on the far left of the assigned bleacher and waited for her turn. The vice headmistress introduced the professors and the student body president. Rosetta noticed how the students are seated in order, neatly. Their sparkling uniforms look expensive and the way the higher years look, intimidating and their aura that screams superiority. Her stomach curl and it makes her want to throw up. She's nervous yet again.

"Each one of you will show your magic abilities and we will determine which section you'll be joining." The Vice Headmistress gestured for the newbies. "And we prepared something to also determine which rank you belong. Good luck." Miss Carnation stare at Rosetta and smiled before she returned to her seat.

The newbies were called one by one and Rosetta was second to the last. The blonde girl who keeps on giving Rosetta a side smirk is now walking slowly. She's the first one up and everyone felt the pressure of going next.
