Chapter 43: What's the rush?
After the hearty lunch, the group strolled around the market and played basketball as usual near the beautiful meadow. The grass was Eden-green.
It wasn't just the sights that pleased the senses. The sounds, smells, and tastes were also very pleasing to the soul. The sky above the meadow was a feast for the eyes. It stretched as far as the eye could see in a dome of cocktail-blue, punched with fluffy clouds. Squeaking swallows chased whirring dragonflies in a dance of life and death.
"Ahh!!! Suddenly life seems so good." Zhou Meng commented while lying on the grass after their second match and soaking in the sunlight.
"I agree with you. It almost feels suspicious to me." Lin Huiying who was sitting under the shade of a tree commented.
"Suspicious?" Zhou Shen repeated the word with a slightly intriguing look. "It's an interesting word to use." He looked at her and commented with a soft smile which was returned by her with a tiny one.
"Life has been treating us quite well lately. I don't have the habit of experiencing something like that, you see." She stretched her hands above her head while answering Zhou Shen.
"It does not matter what it has for us in store. I just hope it continues being this generous." Lin Dan sighed with his eyes closed.
Four of them were resting under the tree with a plate of desserts for them to enjoy while others were playing with the ball and having fun amongst themselves.
Zhou Meng stretched his head back from his lying position to look slightly cross and behind him to Zhou Shen who was sitting comfortably with his legs stretched out in front of him and his hands behind him in support.
"How is your clinic doing these days?" he asked.
"It's doing pretty good. In fact, much better than expected. It just gets busy sometimes." He sighed and closed his eyes with tiredness just from thinking about it. "And sometimes, people can be so demanding. I am at lost for words."
Lin Huiying joined the conversation, "Of course, you had it coming. If you are gonna behave like a kindhearted commoner physician, then people are just gonna climb on your head and dance."
Zhou Shen sighed more loudly this type.
Zhou Meng shook his head, "We already warned him in the beginning. But he wouldn't budge from his decision."
Zhou Shen put his point forward, "Well, I don't want to reveal my identity. It's too bothersome. I would choose to shed it instead of revealing it. If even I, a physician act like a noble, then how can they be comfortable around me. A patient needs to be comfortable around his doctor."
"I cannot refute that." This time Lin Huiying sighed, "If you are okay with it, then who are we to talk you out of it. But I must say that it's kind of you to do something like this. I admire it."
She has always been generous in her compliments and vocal about her feelings about others. At least good feelings.
Zhou Shen looked at her and smiled widely, "Thank you so much. I admit it does get tough from time to time. But I like what I am doing, and I enjoy it every day."
Lin Huiying internally exclaimed: *Dammit, this guy has such a beautiful smile!!!!!!! This is so unfair man. *
Zhou Shen was not the stuck-up type who would smile very rarely or occasionally. This guy was quite open and warm. A compassionate soul with a charming personality. Both his and Lin Huiying's personalities were similar in a wide variety of areas and reactions. So they clicked quite well from their very first meeting.
Lin Huiying commented softly, "Well, that's envious."
Zhou Shen, who was next to her heard and asked her softly, "Why is it so?"
Lin Huiying raised her head from a petite flower in her lap to look at him and answered with a lopsided smile, "You enjoy what you do. You are happy. That's enviable since not everyone is lucky enough to be able to live such a life."
Zhou Shen slightly turned his body to fully face her and asked seriously but softly, "Well, are you not happy? And if you are not, then why not do something that makes you happy."
Lin Huiying: "Not exactly unhappy. But not exactly happy too. It's like.....it does not feel fulfilling. I train every day and help with the manor's accounting here and there, but it's not fulfilling. My soul wants something more. A purpose. But I have not figured out what I should do."
Zhou Shen: "I understand. Don't worry, it takes time. And you are young and have your whole life in front of you. Why are you in such a rush? First, enjoy this free time and then think about what you wanna do in life. There is no pressure. Even my clinic just started so everything is kind of shaky and not set in stone."
"One step at a time.": They both uttered at the same time and laughed.
