Chapter 9: Eight

Ugh~

"Let's eat something from the street stalls. They were much tastier than the expensive one." I heard Jen suggested when the other girls nodded their heads as if agreeing to her. Their neatly combed hair bundled into different hairstyles, bounced as they moved their head swiftly. The streetlights were jist enough to reflect their beaming smiles in the night that it seems like a warm sunset light, prettily. My lips went into a lopsided smile as I watched the three of them helplessly and was about to agree with them, when somebody speak from our side.

It was Maxwell.

"You like those things? We aren't even sure if it's clean or not, so why not eat in a restaurant or something." He murmured but we still heard him.

It's not surprising to see him react like that especially when he's someone who was born with a silver spoon on his mouth. Even in the original novel, Maxwell never like cheap things. I don't know why but maybe it was influenced by the environment he grew up with starting when he was a kid. I even think it's not just me in the past who thought like that but it's understandable when he's a spoiled heir.

Well, he really is an heir, anyway.

Nevertheless, there's no scene in the original novel that was like this situation. I mean, now that I think about it, everyone in the novel were born with a silver spoon in their mouths. And because of their background, the setting was very much focused with how the wealthy people live and date in their life. Speaking of which, wealthy high school students that dates in original novel, including the main characters, were not so~ordinary.

In other words, everything was a cliché, but many readers still love reading those kind of stuffs.

Including me, I guess.

"If you don't like it, then don't eat it." Speaking indifferently, I clicked my tongue stopping myself to roll my eyeballs in annoyance. "Why did you even come if you'll be like this in the first place?" I whispered to myself, thinking that nobody would hear me mouthing to myself but I heard Adrian laugh.

The night breeze was cold enough to made my body shiver but it doesn't really work on me, less to say that, it shouldn't have bothered me if I were in my past life's body, but currently, my soul was inside a teenager's weak body. Rubbing my exposed hands and cupping it on my cheeks to warm myself, I turned my head around to see Adrian looking at me, his eyes are laughing but then pressed his lips together to control his laugh after seeing me staring at his as I squinted my eyes into a crescent shape.

Anyways, it was Maxwell's fault that I am acting like this towards him. Besides, even if it's supposed to be a trivial thing on my part, the time I first met him was like a time bomb that suddenly burst and exploded. The shock that he left that time was engraved inside my head.

His annoyingly staring eyes that night and his dark and messy hair, that was blinded with the shadows of the shades, covering his hair color and of course, his umbrella that was on the top of my head.

It would have been romantic on other people's eyes, especially when they don't have any idea what kind of conversation did we had that night. More likely, I was thankful that it was my first day, and night has already been covering the last minutes of the day, making the place that we first met an isolated area with only several passing cars and some stores with brightly lit signs and streetlights in the surroundings.

But in my case, it was the moment that I felt like I was insulted, especially because I am a teenager right now disguising my old mental age. Creating a misunderstanding like that was also felt embarrassing on my part. My mentality couldn't handle it.

Besides, I still thought of my boyfriend in my past life who on the other hand was never been a jerk that would disrespect me in any ways. The reason why I fell in love with Daryl.

Suddenly thinking about the past was enough for me to feel the sadness of suddenly coming to this place, unannounced.

Well, anyways, let's not think about that.

Finally recovering from deeply consoling myself about the past, I moved my wobbly feet into a quick hop as I approached Jake by the side and tugged the hem of his white uniform. Because Jake looks better than Maxwell in my eyes, I am more comfortable with him than the third male lead himself. Plus, it's a good thing for me.

The latter looked surprised when he looked back at me but I just whispered him to moved aside. I pointed the stall, built by the side of the brightly lit road where there were other street foods stalls align and being sold. More people of different genders and ages were forming a small crowd in each stalls. Some were students on their uniforms of different schools but there were also some who came from El Grandeur High, immediately left me wondering that if if the students of our schools were from different wealthy families, some of them were mingling with the crowds whose status could be totally different to them. I felt a sudden burst of happiness in my chest and beamed into a smile. Then pouted when I reallized that my stomach was rumbling.

It's a good thing that it didn't rumble like a thunder and other people's voices around us covered its sound.

"Oh, then let's go over there." Jake smile and gestured the three girls to go over the place I pointed out.

Right, Jake is the best.

Jen and Meryl and Ari are the best.

Adrian is a little bit the best.

And the other one, Maxwell? I don't really like that kid. Tsk.

***

"You really suck at this, aren't you?" I sneered at Maxwell who on the other was struggling to play with the claw machine we saw in front of a convenience store, along the way to the bus stop.

We stopped by to have some noodles before going home that's we were here playing with the claw machine, while waiting for the others to come out.

The claw inside the machine kept dropping the green teddy bear while I'm on his side, teasing him. The who others went inside the store to buy some cup noodles and something to drink were kind of taking a long time. Gazing from the outside, I could see the three girls with the other guys talking. They looked liked arguing about what flavor tastes good and so on, that I chuckled out silently.

Jake moved around and saw me staring at them so, I gave him a wave in which he also returned with a wave. The others noticed Jake and followed his gaze, meeting my eyes that makes me laughed.

They also waved back at me.

It's already 6:48 in the evening and in the next hour, we will go our separate ways after eating something before going home.

The sound of a coin dropping from the coin slot attracted my eyes and went to watch Max, again. Until the end, his hands were still empty from capturing the prize.

I helplessly sighed as I watch him play with the claw machine.

I feel sorry for his pocket even if he's a rich guy. And I also felt sorry for the claw machine that looks like crying from help because everytime Max failed to capture the stuff toys inside, he would hit the glass with his forehead, that I think hurts but he didn't care.

I didn't know that he's so competitive even with this trivial thing.

I sighed once more before tapping his shrugging shoulder.

"Let me do handle it." I clicked my tongue as I gestured him to move aside. He looked back at me with his ear turning red as if he's embarassed or something. But he just nodded his head in the end before finally stepping aside, silently.

"I feel sorry for the claw machine, so watch this big sister do a good job, kid." I smirk back at him.

"Kid? Hey, don't call me a kid when I'm much taller than you." Max protested with a scoff before throwing his head to the side, as if he's a sulking kid. See, he's a kid.

"Whatever. Just watch behind me and learn, kid." I said focusing my eyes to the machine.

Moving the handle just like what I've remembered in the past, I manipulated the claw and captured the green furred teddy bear inside and carefully moved it to the hole, where it landed inside successfully. I heard a gasped behind me but I just drop another coin in the slot and catch another stuff toys inside the machine.

In the end, we got nine stuff toys the same time when Jake and the others who went inside the store, walked out with a cup noodles of each of their hand.

"Wow~did you win all of this, Penelope?" Ari exclaimed as she asked me a question in which I answered with a smile. I didn't talk and just passed the remaining stuff toys in my hands to Maxwell, who on the other doesn't seemed to be fine.

His handsome face has a frown on his forehead while his reddish lips where put into a pout.

He looks like a puppy which a bunch of stuff toys on hands, standing alone behind me and sulking. If it wasn't because of what happened before, I would have felt sorry for him. Yet, instead, my hand move to cover my lips that suddenly let out a laugh while preaching over the sulking Maxwell.

Glaring at me, I threw a smile at him before finally going to the table placed outside the convenience store and sit on one of its chairs, leaving him behind.

After that night, our unexpected hang outs became a series that goes on until I ended my first week at school.

And today the first day of my second week here in school.

But what is this, again?

"So, you're my new seat mate." A fictitious red eyed guy with dark black hair like the night, is staring back at me. His chiseled jaw that didn't move after talking was coated with his porcelain-like skin, fair and lady-like. The wind from the outside escaping through the opened windows, partnered with his silky dark hair and dance beautifully as if playing along the musics that never existed.

This novel-like and movie-like effects, it screams a halo that my nerves could never handle.

"Damn, my so-called luck." I murmured looking back at those blood-like eyes that feels like it would swallow me whole. But in a moment, my eyes secretly moved down to his name tag and almost screamed in annoyance because of my damn luck.

The first male lead of the original novel.

Hah~this is Calix Miguel Charlemagne.

My gorgeous walking death flag.
