Chapter 50: The New X-Perience!!
"I have confirmation of a new super-drug coming in New York, and the FBI only got hands-on limited containers, the rest are missing. We need to be ready for the worst case." I said to others. We all gathered for today's meeting at the Defenders base after a good break, and I relayed to them about the drug Stryker was planning to supply.
It's true Queen warned FBI and Shield about the shipment, but they only caught 1/4 of the batch, proving Stryker has men in them on a high level and Stryker himself for searching for a mole, trying to find out who leaked news of his drug. Well, he can try all he wants, it isn't causing me any problems.
"So, have any of you been tracked so far?" I asked.
"Yeah, drones. So many drones!" Spiderman raised both his hands dramatically
"Same, but none of the psionic attacks so far." Ghost Spider said after Spidey.
"I think they know my and Electra's identity. I noticed many people reporting our activities over calls in the neighborhood." Daredevil said, alarming the Spiders, while Iron Fist intervened "And I believe they know me as well. probably because we didn't hide our identities while fighting Hand before."
Power Man, Jewel, and Electra nodded in agreement.
"What? That's serious!" Spiderman said in shock.
"Looks like Shield is getting impatient. And their next step will be to recruit you." I told them. I told them about Shield for a while and it's about time they find something.
"They have narrowed you 4 down to your respective boroughs as well," I said to the Spiders, who got more panicked about it.
"Calm down," I said, and the Spider's sat still. "As you know shield is an agency responsible for 'Saving the Earth'. And for that, they consider having every single variable under them. At their disposal. And I agree with that too as one person cannot do everything. But, that's not the reason I'm against Shield. What I am against is their leader's way of recruiting. He will provide you benefits, but he will start by securing your weakness. Manipulation is a good weapon, but if made to make friends or teammates, it's best kept at a minimum, which he doesn't understand." I explained them. "You'll understand what I mean when you talk to them yourself. But for now, I have an important mission for you 6, if possible." I said and looked at DD and the others.
"Infiltrating Shield? Won't he expect this?" DD asked knowing where I was going.
"I just need you inside, but not for infiltration. I already have my ways of knowing what they know. I need you to get in to stop a group who has made its way into Shield." I said, as the screens in front of them showing a Shield logo got replaced by a logo they ever expected to see outside of history books.
"HOLY SHITT!" Spiderman screamed after snapping out of his stupor, and his yell made everyone else snap out as well.
"Soooo.." Ghost Spider said slowly, "You're telling me... an organization responsible to oversee global security... is infiltrated by an organization focused on world domination?" She asked to confirm, still in disbelief, and I slowly nodded.
"But, you told us Shield has access to every single information about a person, their bank accounts, to the current location of their family members. And if hydra has access to these then.." Arachnid said terrified.
"Fuck, I want a drink. this is giving me a headache." Jewel said, rubbing her temples.
"How deep are they infiltrated?" Daredevil asked.
"Very deep. World Council deep." I replied, giving his answers to how bad the situation was.
"I have planted many plans beforehand to save shield or to separate and corner hydra, but that isn't the only organization aiming for world domination. We need to save and train Shield to deal with it. Because this is just the beginning. Hydra is sleeping right now, any movement will definitely wake it up. And so will any other planning to do it. And fair warning, Hand may have been deadly, but hydra would not give us the privilege to die if found out, so think carefully." I warned them in a strict tone.
"You must have thought the way to make their recruitment turn favorable towards us?" Power man asked.
"Multiple. Restriction on identity. Refusal to snitch on the Defenders or their identities to Shield. Salary and access to resources. If they think they have an upper hand in recruitment, argue back to keep your stance. And if they threaten to make trouble releasing your identity or anything like that, don't worry. I made a deal with someone who can push even Shield to the side. Just tell them:'' You're free to try, but the world would get a good 'insight' of what Shield has access to and what they have done till now.'' "I told them they nodded and agreed to my proposal.
"Are you sure? This is bigger than just New York or USA." I asked for confirmation.
"Yes, someone has to take charge to stop them. And who better than we? This is a bigger threat than Fisk ever was. And I'm not going to sit here knowing they are out there, waiting for a chance to destroy and enslave." Daredevil said, and the others nodded in agreement.
"Are we part of this too?" Silk asked.
"No, you 4 are their prime targets. They would use every chance they get to you and open you up like a lab experiment. Both Hydra and Shield. Your powers can make the most deadly spies that can exist. And focus on finishing your homework first." I said and joked to release the tension.
"Heyy" Silk protested, while others chuckled. Though everyone kept their identities undercover still because some precautions were still needed, the talks made it most evident that the spiders were still teenagers to everyone.
"Well, the meeting ends here. I have made the power dampeners for you to wear in case Shield pits you in one of their exercises to observe your abilities, And they are untraceable by their devices, so don't worry. I will give tell you immediately when they will try dropping by." I told them, and we went to our daily patrols.
I and Laura were a team today. We swung through rooftops taking down occasional alley-muggings while Oracle was searching for any organized crime taking place.
"Won't it be troublesome?" Laura asked behind me while we looked at the traffic below us on a forty-story residential complex.
"I already have put Shield on their(Stryker's) tails, so not that much?" I answered back.
"Not that. Don't treat me like an idiot." Laura growled startling me. She has never gotten angry at me before.
"Wait, wait. What are you talking about?" I hurriedly asked.
"Stryker knows me. It's only a matter of time before he finds me. He may even target others at school because of that. Professor kept us down for helping govt and Shield occasionally, but Stryker won't care." She said her voice getting lower with every word she said.
"And he will get his hands cut off the moment he tries to reach any of them," I said hugging her. "The moment he decided any of the sorts, he'll face the worst nightmare of his life, I promise," I said, looking into her eyes. "So, you have nothing to worry about anything. Nightclaw has the Defenders behind her while her boyfriend is someone US govt. won't think of harming. And if Stryker tries his luck, he'll know exactly what happens when someone steps in a Dragon's den thinking they could steal its treasures. So don't worry, Okay!"
Laura nodded and relaxed on me, while we looked at the people traveling below.

They seem to be ready for you, and in more ways than one,] Oracle said and showed us CCTV footage of trucks rolling in a compound with heavily armed guards and many meta's protecting them. But the drones show the whole building already rigged through scans and the chemicals to be fake as well. But still dangerous. They were not Stryker's new drug, but a hallucinogen that would spread by air if burned. It was a trap, luring us through CCTV. it wouldn't be a surprise they found out we keep an eye on them.
"So, they are smuggling the drug in small quantities and seperately, huh," I said looking at it since they weren't doing it in a group. Stryker was being very careful.
"Anyone we should look out for?" I asked.
[Not in particular. Two guys are giving me energy readings, while one is moving the wind as a detection method. But his range and control seem wide, so he could prove to be disastrous to the area. The other has traits of Owl, Ant, and Mongoose the last one emits radio frequencies and controls some level of technology from my readings.] Oracle said, showing the scanned statistics.
"Not bad. Definitely enough to take care of gamma level metas easily. What do you say, ready for a hunt?" I said and asked Laura, who smirked and nodded.
