Chapter 48: CH25 (48), Little Genius
Just as he had planned to Mikail had asked his parents if they could go to Lake Hope during the weekend and they had agreed to his request.
It was because of this, that a few days later, on Kyoday, they drove to Lake Hope.
During these few days, he had helped the Magikarp, that had to drop out of his experiment, recover to their normal state.
Well, at least he assumed so because all negative symptoms that surfaced during the experiment were gone.
Anyway, he was here to increase both his Magikarp populations.
He, obviously, planned to take in all Magikarp with deep yellow as well as yellow potential but this time he was planning to take in a few light yellow Magikarp as well.
Those that reached light green or better potential would be put inside the pond and the others were for his fish farm inside his marine sub-space.
In case of a lucky event where a good potential Magikarp hatched, it could be transferred to the pond, the others would provide good quality meat.
The two Magikarp that had recovered were members of this category.
He was planning to only turn those that were above 2 years old into food, so there was enough time to notice those that stood out because of one thing or another.
He noticed that he had digressed once again and focused back on the present situation.
He told his parents he was going swimming and entered the Lake for his search.
"I am going to swim, mommy daddy."
That was what Arya and Edward heard after their son changed into his swimming trunks before he ran towards the lake.
"Don't go too far out and don't forget to come back occasionally to drink something."
Arya called after her son.
They saw how Rivers followed Mikail and how Star inconspicuously trailed behind them.
Mikail had been told by them that one of their partners was following him, but they made sure that there were always at least two.
One that followed him openly and one that followed from a bit further away.
The one in the open made sure there were no dangers in Mikail's immediate surroundings and the other one made sure no dangers approached them from the further outside.
He seemed to have accepted being followed by one Pokemon, but they did not tell him about the second one because their little boy seemed to treasure his freedom and as his parents, they did not want him to feel suffocated.
After they were sure that both Pokemon were keeping an eye on him, they started talking to each other.
"There he goes again, leaving on his little adventure without considering how worried I, we, get when he leaves our side to walk around his own."
Arya complained to Edward.
She did not say this to Mikail because she did not want him to be sad because of her and because she did not want to curb his enthusiasm.
Okay, it was mostly because she did not want to ruin her image as his pretty, gentle, loving, and awesome mommy that she was sure Mikail had of her.
"I know, honey, I know.
Isn't this why we send our Pokemon after him?
To make sure that he is safe.
One of them even goes ahead of him and warns the stronger wild Pokemon to keep their distance while he is there."
Came Edwards acknowledgment to which Arya answered.
"I know this, but he keeps doing more dangerous stuff than before."
Edward had a helpless look on his face while listening to his wife's rant.
He had seen this coming because he had noticed how she had kept bottling up her worry over Mikail's "adventures" while smiling at him when Mikail talked about the things he did.
"At first, he simply walked around while only occasionally picking up things from the ground.
Then he started petting all the Pokemon he could get his hands on.
After that, he brought back Pokemon with him and started training them.
As if that was not enough, he started to do mock fights with the wild Pokemon around our house to train his Pokemon.
No matter how smart he is for his age, he's going too fast.
I am afraid that he is going to get hurt because he went out too far or challenged someone too strong because he got overconfident, or something like that."
The two had noticed that their son was showing higher intelligence than the average because he was developing faster than described in the books they read about the growth of children.
Not only that, a few months before Mikail's second birthday they noticed that his development speed increased much more than before.
Their Butterfrees telling them that they noticed an increase in psionic energy around Mikail and two Natu getting interested in their son along with his higher intelligence as well as learning and maturing speed led them to the conclusion that he had talent in psionics.
They were planning to speak to him about this after his 4th birthday.
Emerald and Cyan said that his energy was still increasing, so he would need to learn how to control his powers.
While Psychics were not common there still were quite a few of them and the Pokemon Alliance had schools where budding psychics could be taught how to control their powers.
Not just psychics, but there were also other schools where people with different powers were taught, so there was no need to be afraid that Mikail would be seen as abnormal or anything.
The minimum age for enrollment was 5, which was why they had decided to talk about it one year in advance.
They were not sure if he had noticed something about his powers but they were sure that he had noticed his higher than normal intelligence.
Arya took a deep breath after saying all that, which Edward used to calm her down for a bit.
"Honey, it's normal that you worry about Mikail.
I get worried about his safety as well, but that's normal because we are his parents.
It is our job to worry about our son.
I won't tell you to not worry about Mikail, because quite frankly that's impossible, but what we can do is to make sure that he stays safe and that's exactly what we have already been doing.
As long as we make sure that no wild Pokemon that is too strong gets near him, everything else is not a big problem.
Getting hurt is normal, everyone gets hurt someday.
We only have to make sure it isn't life-threatening."
Arya, who had calmed down a bit playfully snapped back at Edward.
"I know that, dummy.
It's just that I get worried anyway.
You wouldn't understand.
I am his mother, I can't help it."
Edward acted as if he was deeply hurt by her words.
"And what am I, chopped liver?
I am his father, am I not?"
Arya, who completely recovered thanks to Edward's bad acting asked him a question.
"You have seen one of their mock fights as well, right?
I can only say, as expected of my son.
He takes right after his mother."
Edward shot right back after hearing her claim.
"Excuse me.
You meant he takes right after his father, right?
I am after all the higher-ranking trainer between us."
Arya unwilling to lose countered.
"Pfft, as if.
If I didn't want to spare your feelings I would have surpassed you long ago.
I just didn't want you to feel inferior, because I had a higher rank, alright?
Like I said, he has his mother's talent."
Edward was unwilling to accept defeat.
"Yeah, right!
Keep telling yourself that.
Have you seen the strategies and training Mikail has been using?
Those were obviously inspired by the training exercises he observed when I brought him along to my training."
Arya directly retorted.
"No!

They started laughing for a bit.
No matter how much Mikail's wanderlust worried them, his excellence made them feel proud and happy.
Edward decided to compromise first.
"Okay, he takes after US and was inspired by OUR training and the stories he listened to.
Better?"
Arya acted as if she reluctantly agreed.
"Yes, I am sure you somehow contributed as well.
Anyway, while watching the mock battles and their training I noticed that his Pokemon are quite talented.
Mikail seems quite lucky, so we can at least say that he got that from you."
Edward responded.
"Ha, Ha, Ha, how funny.
But you are right, I noticed that as well, especially his Caterpie.
I am pretty sure that one has at least 4-star potential if not 5-star.
If not for the fact that testing the potential is costly and can only be done for Pokemon registered to you, I would have tested it already.
Unfortunately, that would mean I would have to register Caterpie under me, which I won't, because I don't want it to later look like I am the reason his Caterpie is strong.
He can do it himself in the future, besides a 5-star Caterpie would arouse quite a bit of attention, which we don't want."
Arya agreed with Edward.
"You're right, Mothra is indeed a precious little thing.
She's special just like my little boy."
Edward continued.
"Our son is a genius so our job as parents is quite important.
We have to make sure he does not get overconfident or cocky, while simultaneously not restricting or smothering him too much, to prevent him from closing off or being unable to flourish.
I think we have done a good job so far, so let's continue to keep an eye on him as well as making sure he stays safe while allowing him the little freedom he currently has.
As long as he does not go out too far without our permission everything is alright.
Until now, at least, he has not done anything too dangerous."
Arya nodded at that.
"You're right.
Let's see how it goes, if we see the need we can still interfere later on."
Afterward, they simply relaxed and enjoyed their trip.
A few hours later Mikail was done with the lake and decided to stay by the side of his parents.
He naturally had no idea of the conversation, his parents had a few hours ago and he was currently going over his gains.
'I have gotten a good haul.
While I did not manage to find any Magikarp with light green potential or better, I did help relocate quite a few deep to light yellow potential Magikarp.
3 Deep Yellow, 5 Yellow, and 8 Light Yellow potential Magikarp to be exact.
I could have taken in more light yellow ones but decided to only invite those that were already mature.
This way I don't have to wait for them to mature and they can start reproducing right away.
This is, naturally, purely voluntarily on their part, but I don't believe that they won't reproduce on their own.
All living beings have the urge to reproduce once they mature, so I see no reason to force them to do something they will do on their own anyway.
I have more than enough time, so pressuring them is unnecessary for now.
Anyway, all Magikarp were, obviously, boosted by my space after their relocation.
This resulted in 2 Green, 4 Light Green, 7 Deep Yellow, and 3 Yellow potential Magikarp.
I put the 6 green potential Magikarp into the pond and the 10 yellow ones landed inside the marine sub-space.
Two or three more such trips and I should have enough Magikarp to guarantee a constant supply of food after 2 years.'
Satisfied with his gains Mikail spend the rest of the day relaxing and playing with his parents.
After dinner, which consisted of grilled Magikarp, they packed up and went back home.
Once they were home, his parents told him a few stories of psychics and other energy users.
They also watched a movie, after which he had to go to bed.
