Arriving to Henna Town, Joseph observed his surroundings, he saw stores full with products, kids playing before dinner for it was almost sunset and some young ladies throwing kisses to him and then turning around flustered.
— Well, well, well! — said his mother. — Ain'tcha a popular boy?
— Don't say does things, ma. — said Joseph flustered.
— Tell me. When's my boy getting a cute girlfriend? — ask with a naughty smile.
— Told'cha does things ain't for me, I better save money to enter the knight program just like papa, THEN I'll see if a girlfriend can happen.
— That's mama's boy! — said with enthusiasm. — Don't make the mistake of marrying all like a poor guy and then stuck with three children without money.
— I know… — said with sarcastic voice. — That's literally the seventeenth time you say it in this month.
— You take account of it? — asked surprised and curious.
— Rule number on of the manual: How to be Joseph. Remember small things to catch off guard others. — said raising an eyebrow looking at her.
— The worst is that it works. — she reproached

They continued in the road until getting to a house. When they opened the door, they look the place with happiness, a cozy living room, a bookshelf, a little plant to give life and a metal shield in the wall. There were three doors, one that was Joseph's room, other was his parents' room and the last one was a storage.
After entering their home, both entered their rooms, they cleaned themselves in their personal bathrooms. Joseph exited from it and observed his basic dorm, he went to a chest with his clothing and started changing his.
He went out with a jacket with a white shirt underneath, black pants and nice shoes. After sitting in a chair and waiting some minutes, the other door opened, it was his mother wearing a green corset dress with white center, and a headdress wrapped in a net bag, she passes her hands behind her ears and unattached a pair of small artifacts that, once away from her, showed her long pointy elven ears with two earrings in her left one, after seeing that, Joseph did the same showing short half-human-half-elf ears.
His mother saw his dressing with unease, he saw her with confusion.
— Be grateful that it's late and your papa's comin', cause its too late and he's almost here. I'd say to you to change those rags of yours. — said putting her hand in her forehead in frustration.
— Oh! C'mon! — reproached Joseph. — I say that papa won't be mad at lookin' at me.
— Maybe… or maybe not… — she said a little anxious. — You never know what could've happen' in a battles of his… maybe he comes with a mental problem… Or a horrendous scar!
— Calm down ma — he said in a calm voice and taking her from her shoulders with a smooth touch. — Dad's gonna be okay, I can fell it in my bones.
— Y-Yeah… You're right. — she said calming herself, and after Joseph walked away, she thought. — Should I be worried for him…? — her voice echoed in Joseph's head.
— Said somethin'? — asked him.
— No, I didn't said anything... — she said a little confused.
— Somethin' about worrying for him? — insisted.
— No way. — she said with her eyes wide opened in surprise. — Holy Leptice! Can you hear my thoughts!?
— What'cha talkin' about? — he was in total confusion.
— Wait! I'm gonna think somethin' and you will hear it. — she kept in silence for a moment, then she thought. — I've got the best son in the four territories!
— I… I heard it. — exclaimed surprised. — What is goin' on?
— Finally! I thought you weren't born with this gene… But you have it! — said with happiness. — We elves can broadcast our thoughts to others of our race via our ears, every time I was near you, I thought some things for you to hear it. But now you can! — she then proceeded to hug him with all her strength. Joseph, still confused, hugged her back.
They waited in the living room, expecting for any outer noise, after some hours, the sound of horse hooves, stopped in front of their house, then they continued, the door opened and a man in knight armor entered, black-haired, dark skin with a slight scar in his left cheek, in his armor was an emblem of a roaring lion and in his back he had a shield.
— Night, family! — said the man smiling.
— Matthew! — screamed Joseph's mother happily running towards the man, hugging him and kissing him in his lips with love. — I missed'ya so much. — she said while crying with happiness.
— Me too, Any, me too. — said Matthew with eye drops falling over his cheeks, Any cleaned them. — And here's my boy! — exclaimed looking at Joseph sitting in the chair.
— Long time no see, papa. — he said with a smile. — Didn't think you could come this early. — he proceeded to hug him.
— I will ALWAYS come back, no matter what. — then he hugged his son and wife.
— Well, you gotta be starving. Right, sweetie? — Any said.
— I could bite somethin' — Matthew answered.
— Wait here, hon', I'll go cook somethin'… — she tried to continue, but Matthew stopped her.
— Hol'up Any, here I got dinner. — he said taking from his bracelet a bag, he opened it and showed a big cooked pig, bread and wine bottles.
— I ain't believing those physics. — thought Joseph after seeing the lack of mess in the bag.
They cleaned the table, put in the center the pig, plates with fruit salad, a basket with bread and three cups for wine. All three of them started to eat.
— So, papa. — Joseph said. — How was your mission?
— Usual stuff, kid. — Matthew said, and after biting the meat he continued. — We were informed that a small scout group was roaming in some places.
— Elves? — he asked.
— Yeah… — he said in a sad way. Then he looked the sad face that Any was making. — You know that I don't like that either, but that's the only thing I can do to ensure your security… There's nothin' I can do.
— Yeah… We know, but… — Joseph said while drinking wine. — Its hard… And I'll keep that path.
— Joseph? — asked Any.
— I'll become a knight and I'll fight til' I destroy evil in the world. Those people… elves… vampires… barbarians… Aren't all the same as humans? Aren't all the same? That's why I was born, y'all are the same… Are evil people who cause this mess and I will NOT let that happen. I WILL become knight to make a better world for all of us. — he said with determination in his eyes.
— That's my boy. With that attitude, strength, energy and hearth, you'll become a great knight. — said Matthew with a big smile.
They continued talking to Matthew about what happened, they talked until they finished their food, Any took the dishes and went to the kitchen. When Matthew saw that he looked Joseph.
— Kid, I need you to make me a favor. — whispered Matthew.
— Anythin' papa. — whispered as well Joseph.
— Here, take these, ride to the market, and get some new clothes. — said while giving his son ten golden coins.
— Why…? — asked surprised and confused at the same time.
Matthew gave a naughty glare to Any, after few seconds, Joseph understood, he stood wore his ear-hiding artifact and ran towards his horse.
Matthew walked towards his wife who was washing the dishes, he approached her. He put his hands in her on her shoulders and got near her left ear.
— Y'know, babe? I love when you don't hide those beautiful ears of yours. — he whispered rubbing his finger near the tip of her ear making them lower themselves cat-like.
