Chapter 4: A strange Fellow

'What happened?' The young man wondered, the last thing he remembered was walking in the dark and losing consciousness. His eyes slowly open, the emerald-colored eyes no longer hollow. Furthermore, he scrunches his forehead as the feeling as if his head will literally split open accompanies him.

"Aah, w.....agh....at the fu…" He mutters as his hoarse and dry voice is unclear through his gasps of breath.

"Well, it seems you're finally awake my good boy." Another voice says with the same tone those cartoonish salesmen in a film of the eighties would have.

The recently woken up young man looks to his right and sees a spectral humanoid sitting next to him. He is wearing a large gray vest and even more noticeably a top hat. Furthermore, he has a cane in his right hand and seems to be looking at a silver watch.

The spectral human puts his monocle over his left eye, he looks at me and speaks again in this voice that sounds like someone from the eighties trying to sell something.

"You took quite your time laying about, didn't you? You know, it's quite rude to make distinguished gentlemen like myself wait. Here I am gracious enough to…" The spectral human starts to babble on with no intent to stop.

"Who are you?" The still confused recently woken up man decides to ask, getting an even heavier headache from the unknown spectral human's voice.

"My, my, I wasn't even done speaking yet. But that is a brilliant question, mmm. What should my name be? You know, personally, I liked to call myself something very edgy, but that doesn't feel right for this shape. This calls for something more dignified!!!" the spectral human exclaims with too much fervor for someone in a place where there's only pitch black darkness.

The same fervor could not be found by the wanderer. He still lies on the dark floor, his two human hands grasping his head.

"I've found it! You may call me Cornelius! Wait what abou…"

"What are you supposed to be, Cornelius?" The still lying down wanderer interrupts in the hope to spare himself from more of the man's rambling. The beating feeling in his head now so hard, he's beginning to genuinely suspect that his hearth is in the wrong place.

"Fine, fine no more naming, Cornelius will do." The spectral human smiling as he repeats the name Cornelius a few times. A proud smile on his face before he continues. "I'm the manifestation of your pitiful attempt of using this runic magic." Cornelius says as he points over toward the rocklike shape.

"Didn't I succeed if you're here?" the lying down wanderer responds, ignoring the new information given to him and instead opting to find out more about the consequences.

"Succeeded is a strong word, you didn't fail at least otherwise you would be dead. Besides I'm calling the attempt pitiful because the state I found you in was pitiful. Look at you!" Cornelius says with a lot of animated movement, not holding himself back from pointing directly at the man that's still lying down.

"…." the wanderer kept quiet, almost entranced by the Cornelius's eccentric voice and manners.

"Imagine my shock, I've finally been bonded for the first time in who knows how long. So I prepare for my grand entrance, only to be summoned to some realm" Cornelius stays quiet for a bit as he looks around in the pitch black dark. "And in a demonic realm of all places by a little shade demon who's passed out."

"Shade demon?" The still laying down man asks, his voice even more worn out. He holds up his hand and looks at it. It's human and familiar like it always has been perhaps older in years than he remembered. Yet his scattered memories tell him there was something else, something he was missing. He continues to think about it but couldn't find a specific reason why. Thus the wanderer looks at Cornelius, a pitch-black figure in the pitch-black dark.

'Monocle… Gray vest…. Wait, why do I know that?' He thinks to himself realizing that what he "knows" and what he has "seen" do not match. He rubs his eyes with both his thumbs before again looking at Cornelius.

"Ah right, this might seem weird to you considering you're reincarnated and all the shambles that come with it. Probably used to more light or less… I wouldn't know. But it's safe to guess more in this case." The figure apparently called Cornelius says as his hand touches the lone wanderer's cheek. He holds up the chin of the lying down and broken man as if he's inspecting recently bought wares. He lets go of the head, taking a few steps back.

"Let me explain." He says while sitting down on a spectral chair that he summoned and with a creepy smirk on his face.
