Chapter 22: The dangers in the City

Walking through Lucille's Light even the vibrant atmosphere did not grab the attention of the reincarnate. Instead, he walks slowly toward the tavern, hoping to receive more information from Ashmodai. His head feels clear, unlike his dragging steps. The conversation with Leilaya softly replayed in his mind, unlike the vague yet harsh dreams. Why should it be near impossible? How does she know?

he would have continued walking if not for a smaller decrepet figure. The old man from the bridge stood before the reincarnate. His gaze fixed toward the reincarnate even clear with the non-existent eyes filled with maggots and what else could feed on rot.

"How unfortunate this situation is." the old man says as beetles and other smaller flying insects escape his dislodged mouth as it somehow still opens and closes. The tone of his voice is drawn-out as if struggling for breath after each word.

"Why would this be unfortunate?" The reincarnate asks whilst he backs off slightly. The 2 orcs were specific cases of brute strength and foolishness. However, the old man could prove tricky.

"You see, I was really planning on keeping you for later. But you just had to kill Othred didn't you? What a shame... What a shame... What a shame..." The old man continues to mutter inaudibly, his struggling for breath clearer than his mumbles.

'What's going on?' The reincarnate thinks trying his best to hide his frustration and uncertainty about this situation. The emerald-colored eyes scan the surrounding discovering himself to be crowded by many of the same kin. Pale orcs to be exact.

The recent encounters against the two other orcs play quickly in his mind. The second one that Randyl brought him especially seems to be similar to the orcs that surround him at this moment.

'I should have killed that little shit.' The reincarnate curses Randyl in his mind. With the hopes that his mental curses will manifest himself into true wounds on the small creature.

"Your friend began the fight. If anything he was to blame." The reincarnate says as he tries to walk past the old man.

"LIES, MY BROTHER WOULD NEVER DIE TO THE LIKES OF YOU!!" An obnoxiously loud voice yells, accompanied by the harsh stamping of his feet. He could have sworn that the ground began to shake lightly as the large figure approached.

The pale orc, who's about 2 Meters and 20 centimeters in size and has such a muscle mass that one could confuse him with a pile of rocks. Carries an impressive 2 handed great ax that seems to be strangely luxurious and decorated. It visibly radiates some form of translucent mana around it. The large pale orc wasn't wearing any armor for his upper body, and the armor for his lower body were no more than tattered cloths. Similar to the other pale orcs nearby yet their weapon was as crude as their cloths. The reincarnate looks at his face as soon as I look up at his face, I get greeted with pupilless white eyes, where blood keeps streaming out.

'This could be quite problematic' The reincarnate could only think realizing that now not one but multiple issues have shown up. All eager enough to smash his head in.

"Well he did die otherwise you wouldn't be here would you?" The reincarnate points out as he walks a step closer toward the largest of the pale orcs and the primary source of rage.

The large pale orc leans closer, stopping right before the reincarnate's face. "YOU INSIGNIFICANT WEAKLING!! DUEL ME SO I CAN AVENGE MY BROTHER!" the smell of blood and recently hunted flesh flow into the reincarnate's nostrils.

' A duel?' the reincarnate thins about the offer as tries to gaze the old man's reaction. The frown on his face is evident even on the disgusting skin. Yet he doesn't react or outright oppose the suggestion. 'I guess fighting one on one will give me better odds. I can look for a way out while I'm fighting if nothing else.' The reincarnate thinks preferring his odds against one brute instead of many.

The reincarnate jumps backs, creating a bit of distance between him and the large pale orc. "I accept. Let me show you exactly what I did to this blood brother of yours." He says as he summons his darkness mana made spear, a small snicker accompanying the insult.

Either fearing their leader's rage or actually trying to respect of the rules of the duel, the onlooking pale orcs and the old gave space. Their initial hesitation turned to excitement as they began to cheer and actively hit anything close by. Making as much noise as possible, in not even 2 minutes other nearby demons joined the watch party.

Before starting the duel, the reincarnate looks for the old man. he does not know much of the insect infested walking horror. However, if he had to choose between him or any other orc, then the choice was easily made.

He quickly finds him in the crowd, his head slightly cocked to the side. Noticing the reincarnate's gaze, the old man smiles unnaturally wide and waves. The reincarnate clicks his tongue as he sees the creepy figure do yet something else weird and unnerving. He turns to his opponent again, who's been waiting for an audience. Clearl confidence mixed with the anger

"Well, then let's begin, shall we? It would be quite rude to make your funeral last longer than necessary." the reincarnate declares in a confident tone as he points the darkness made spear toward the large plate orc. The action is met by cheers by the all but the pale orcs.
