Chapter 4: The Basement
Everyone started vacating the canteen, and Gaurav realized that the creature that threw the spike was from that incident. He kept the phone in his pocket and started running towards the exit.
On the other side when Gaurav mentioned the creatures from that incident, Mrs.Roy was panicked. Pratik's mom was asking her about the situation. She said that Pratik would be safe, no need to worry about him, and made her move.
While running to the exit, Gaurav turned back and said, " Pratik! Runaway from me. That monster is here for me. It won't attack you, if you are not with me. "
But Pratik was not moving nor giving any reply. He was standing still without uttering any word looking at that monster. Gaurav was telling that the monster would not bother Pratik if he is not with Gaurav. But that monster aimed another spike at Pratik.
Gaurav was confused about that. He doesn't have time to think about why that monster was trying to kill Pratik, so he slid on the floor, turning his foot one hundred eighty degrees, followed by his body facing Pratik, and started running towards him.
While running, Gaurav was thinking ( Why is Pratik not moving? Is he feeling the same way I felt in my dream, being frozen. Does he feel like he is frozen? ), thinking all this in his mind, Gaurav was running towards Pratik.
He was running towards Pratik, and that monster pitched the spike. Gaurav hurried. He was running at his maximum speed. That Spike was nearly ten meters away from Pratik, and Gaurav was at the distance of twenty.
Gaurav did not give up, but the Spike came pretty close to Pratik. Gaurav yelled " Praatikk….. " and at the same time a girl came out of the kitchen, she saw that spike and threw a knife in her hand at that spike.
'Clinck'
That knife had hit the spike when it was nearly five meters away from Pratik, and it missed the target again. Gaurav felt relieved and reached Pratik. He held the shoulders of Pratik and shook him " Pratik! Hey " and Pratik jolted, regaining his consciousness. Pratik said, " Gaurav. I thought to move and run away, but I felt like I am stuck here, like a statue. " then Gaurav said to himself (So, Pratik felt the same as me.)
" Let's move out now. " said that girl.
They agreed and started running in improper ways. Zig-Zag, sometimes bowing, changing the direction. They did not run in one order, they have alerted it for every few steps so that it could not aim properly, and no one is harmed. Finally, they made their way out of the campus.
'Gasps'
" What should we do now. " asked that girl. Then Gaurav replied, " Just follow me. " and they went to Gauravs car.
" Ohh...So you have a car " surprisingly said that girl.
" Yes, and I thought of coming to campus in this car daily "
"Ohh you are so lucky "
" What about you. "
" Ahhh...I am not that lucky. I will just catch a metro "
"Ooooo"
" Yeah!! " and they chuckled.
Pratik was getting frustrated by seeing them. He was trembling with fear about what will happen. But they are talking about their daily life in a situation where their lives are in danger.
" Will you both stop talking now? Are you even understanding the situation we are in? "
Pratik shouted angrily.
Gaurav casually replied, " Yes, those monsters are chasing us. " Pratik dropped his jaw when he heard that. The girl who was laughing stopped when she realized that. " This is not the first time I am experiencing it. I will be chased by them every night in my dreams. When I had that dream first time after I returned, I was scared, second time it reduced. Now, I am not scared anymore. " said Gaurav.
" You may not be scared, but I am. Please start the car Gaurav. " Pratik asked in a low voice that was shivering with fear.
Then Gaurav started moving. He was guffawing inside his heart by watching Pratik in that condition. He called Mrs.Roy.
" Hello! Are you alright Gaurav. "
" Yes mom, I am good. Just don't worry and come to the home. "
" I will be there in 15 minutes. "
" Mom! Stop the car where you are. " Mrs.Roy applied brakes. Tiers screeched and stopped the car.
" What happened? "
" Mom. Pratik is also being targeted. "
" It may be because he was trying to save you. "
" No mom. It was aiming at Pratik even when I was away from him. "
" How could that be? They won't attack any starnger. "
" We can find the reason only when we meet them again. But for now, Pratik is coming to our home. Bring his mom along with you. "
" Okay "
" Is dad at home. "
" No, he went out about some work. "
" Ok. Call him and inform to bring Mr.Harsha along. I will be waiting. "
" Fine. "
And the conversation ended. After the call ended, Gaurav stared at that girl. She was staring at him. Then he yelled, " Sorry, I forgot about you! Just tell me where your parents live. My mom can assure their safety and bring them here. "
" No, need for that. My parents won't live here. I stay in a hostel nearby. "
" At least, we will inform them that you are safe. They may worry if they see the news after sometime. "
" No need to worry about that. Just focus on the road. "
Then he turned towards the road, and a group of children was crossing the street. He stopped the car suddenly, and they bounced to and fro because of that. Gaurav thanked that girl, and they reached his home.
" Wow this house is so beautiful " said that girl. Gaurav went to the main door and opened it.
" The door was open till now, what if any thief enters. " asked Pratik
" No, it was not open. it was locked. "
" Then how did you open it without any key. "
" The sensors on the knob ditected my fingerprints and opened the lock. "
Then that girl said, " I have never seen such thing before, what magic did you use. "
When she said that, Gaurav and Pratik started laughing. " It is not any magic, they are just fingerprint sensors, like how you have on your smart phone to unlock. "
" Ohh.. " and they went inside.
Gaurav has taken them to the basement through a door under the staircase. After a while, their parents arrived.
Now all of them are safe in that basement.
