Chapter 1: CHAPTER 1
The silence was, once again, broken, as the papers were turned over, once again. The form took a deep breathe as he put down his signature on the paper with mixed feeling. As he was happy for his pack members for finding their mate, he was also sad for not being able to share the joy they feel after finding their mates. He wasn't a fan of silence, but recently, he's been finding solitude in it. Most to his dislike, it mirrored his situation; being mate-less, and ironically, the silence gave his a feeling of hope. Hope that if he just left the silence, he would find his mate, that it was him being in the silence stopping him and his mate from meeting. The silence was broken as the door to his office was opened. He signed
"Are you busy" his friend and Beta female, Chloe asked
"Signing documents"
"Which ones?"
"Transfer of those whose mates are from another pack" he said dully
"Oh" she said silently
"Let's go eat" she said, trying to brighten up the mood
He rose his head up and lifted an eyebrow, giving her a 'are you serious?" look, to which she replied with a shrugged
"Aren't you hungry?" she defended
"No" he said, in a monotonous voice, focusing back on what he was doing
"Are you a robot? How can you not be hungry? You've been working for hours"
"No. Because I'm not. I'm used to it, it's nothing" he answered her questions without lifting his head
Signing, she walked towards his desk and sat on one of the chair facing him
"I didn't tell you to sit"
"You aren't going to find her by confining yourself to the walls of your office. Or him"
He rose his head again
"Your mate could be a male" she said, raising her arms
"Why are you here?" ha asked
"To go eat"
"With me?"
"Julian can't"
"And you thought I can?"
"You're my friend"
"And he's your mate"
"Are you going or not?"
"No" he said
"You should have told me that before waiting my time" she said and dashed but not before quickly closing what he was doing

"I'll have one iced americano with cake, please" she said
"That'll be ten dollars, please" the waiter replied
She smiled as she paid of her food
"Thank you for coming in"
She smiled at the waiter before picking up her tablet. With her eyes fixed on the screen, she didn't see the person in front of her
"Ow!" she said as she bumped into the person
"Oh, I'm so sorry" she apologized
"It's okay, no harm done" the other lady said
"I should have looked at where I was going"
The other lady smiled
"It's okay, really"
She gave another apology as she went to the only seat left. She settled and went back to her tablet
"Can I seat here?" her heard as she looked up
"There's no other free seat" the lady added
"Oh, sure" she said with a smile
"I guess they are really popular. It's quite something, seeing the customer"
"I know, right?" the lady agreed
"By the way, I'm Chloe. Chloe Thompson" the lady introduced, stretching her hand
A distasteful shiver ran down her back at the name Thompson, but she shook it off
"Samantha. Samantha Summers"
"Number 32, your order is ready" they heard
"That's me" Samantha said as she walked towards the counter. As she was getting hers, the other lady also came forward to get her other
"We got the same thing" Samantha noted, earning a smile from the other lady
She wasn't a closed off person, far from it, but she also wasn't a person who got close to people this quickly, especially humans. Amidst the confusion, Chloe decided to just let it be for now
"It was lovely meeting you" Chloe said
"Same. I wish we can meet again"
"We can"
"You don't mind?"
"Of course not. Let's exchange numbers"
"See ya" Samantha said waving as she headed back from where she came from
"Bye, for now" the lady waved back as she entered her car. She was glad she didn't let those men out her off eating out
Samantha walked for a while and stopped in front of a company that had a Samantha Enterprise above it. She walked in and went to her office, having a trade by barter of greeting with those she encountered
She looked at her side, the girl, as she prefers to call her, in her late twenties wasn't where she usually was. She looked around, but didn't see her. She tilted her head and entered her office
After a while, a knock sounded from her door
"Come in" she said and the girl she was looking for entered in her loose white shirt tucked into her pencil jean high waist skirt, with a pair of black platform heels to increase her height
"I was about to report you missing"
The girl signed
"I was in the restroom" and said
The figure on the chair nodded, then smiled
"Good to see you smiling, as usual"
"I met someone today"
"Oh, wow. Awesome" she said waving her hands in the air, her voice that of mock enthusiasm
"We really bonded"
"It's not as if that's a new thing. You bond well with every one, way too much" she added the last part silently, but was still heard
"And you need to learn how to. You can go now, I've seen you"
She turned around to do as she was told, but stop when she remembered why she came in
"When are you going? He will soon be back" she asked
"To where?"
"Weren't you told? Cole is coming back today"
The mention of the name brought a full grown smile on her face
"Really? He is? I had no idea!"
The excitement in her voice and happiness on her face could be detected miles away
The girl crossed her hands with fake suspicion
"What is this? I wasn't even this happy when I heard the news"
"That's because you're you, and I'm me. Your relationship with him is not the same as the one with me and him" she said with a smile
"Update"
"His plane will be landing in thirty minutes" the girl said after checking her watch
She nodded and stood up
"I can just wait for him at the airport"
She started walking, but stopped when the phone at the secretary desk rang. The girl went out, and after a while the phone inside also rang
"Yes, Samantha Summers speaking" she said into the phone
"I see... Yeah sure... Okay"
She groaned as she placed the handset back into the switch hook, falling back into her chair
The girl re-appeared into the office
"Work?" she girl, and received a nod
"When am I going to see Cole?"
"It's not as if he's going back today. Even if he is, there's no way he's going without seeing you"
The statement brought a smile to Samantha's face
"Right?" she asked with a smile
"You sure are happy. See ya" the girl said and left while the one remaining arranged her things to go to wherever she was being needed
