Chapter 2: Reality
It was a beautiful morning. Birds were humming, children laughter fill the air and rh sun shine brightly. I stood at the balcony sipping coffee listening to music. I'm back at my house and its been months Florencia died and to be honest I didn't fully recover from it. I'm to resume work today . I'm the CEO of CHICcompany specialized in wears. I sighed as I remember how lovely I got married to Florencia. It was a simple wedding at St Sebastian Catholic church. She was dresses in a white gown with her hair packed in a neat bun wearing kitten heels. I smiled as I recollect when she asked the priest to hurry up so I can kissed her. I remembered how happy she was when she found out that she was pregnant. I can't forget how she held my hand in a tight grip in the labour room and the way she kissed my palm as she died with our child. A call from my secretary interrupted my thoughts as I picked up
"Hello sir" Cynthia my PA said
" I'm resuming work today " I said ignoring her greeting
"We are happy to have you back sir" she said and I could feel the hint of happiness in her voice
"Whatever, get the staffs in the meeting room around 9am" I said while taking off my pajamas
"As you wish sir she said and I disconnected the call. I got up to have a shower, I got dressed and headed downstairs where my maids were aligned waiting for me to have breakfast
" Morning master " they said in a chorused. As usual I ignore their greetings, took a sit and began to eat. After I had my filled , I exit .The sun was shining brightly as if mocking me . I entered the car while Roger my driver took me to the office
"Morning sir" the security men greeted .I ignore them and headed to the office where all my employees were waiting for me. They decorated the meeting room with balloon and a poster saying "welcome back sir " . I clenched up my fist
"Who had the idea of this ?" I growled and they shivered and all their eyes were on Cynthia
" Are you the Mastermind of this charade?" I asked her directly
"Yes sir I did because..." She wanted to explain and I cut her off
"You're fired!" I said simply and left the meeting room for my office without looking back at them. I bumped into my sister in way
"Hey bro , you're back" she said and hugged me. I hugged her back
"Thanks for taking care of my company" I said to her
"It's nothing brother. What are siblings for" she said and smiled at me . I nodded in affirmative
"Get me a new PA" I said and she look at me quizzically
"What about Cynthia?" She asked
" I fired her this morning, get me a new PA before the end of today " I said and walk off
" Okay chef!" I heard her coo and I scoffed
I reached my office and there were still some balloon and posters . I stand by he window looking at the busy city of los ángeles
"Time to go back to reality " I mumbled as I began to check some files on my table.
Few minutes later.. Mr Rashad my father in law and a shareholder in the company came in my office
"Good morning son " he greeted as he sat down in front of me
"How may I help you?" I asked ignoring the greeting
"I came to check on you ..it's been long I saw you " he snapped
" Hmm" I simply hummed
" It's actually six months since my lil Flo died" he said faking a sigh
" The agreement I had with your late father was for you to marry in my family
" And ? Flo is dead, the agreement is no more valuable" I said gritting my teeth
" Yes but my other daughter Linda is perfectly alive "
" What do you mean by that ?" I asked perplexed
"You can marry Linda " he said seriously
I chuckled
"Mr Rashad" I called
"What do you take me for ?" I said sensing Anger
"It won't be bad for you to marry Linda" he answered
"I'm not marrying anyone in your family sir.. you make leave my office this minute" I half yelled. He raised his eyebrows
"Why won't you marry Linda ? She's as beautiful as flo" Mr Rashad yelled at him
" I don't love Linda and I'll never do" he said and pinged for the security to come
" You'll regret it Sebastian..I can assure you " he snarled and left the office. Sebastian sighed frustratedly and stood at his terrace.
"Why did you leave Florencia?" He muttered as he gaze upon the sky
" I rather died than getting married to that idiot " he mumbled as he make his way out of his office.
" David" he called as he look for him . David was busy flirting with a new intern and has no idea that his boss was looking for him
"David!!!!!" Sebastian yelled abd David flinched at the loud voice. He's in deep shit
"You called for me ?" David said looking at his shoes
"What were you up to with the new intern?" He asked angrily and David gulped his saliva
"I was instructing her ..that's all" daivd muttered and Sebastian chuckled
" You'll be my PA for now" and David nodded
"What's my schedule?" He asked
"You have a lunch meeting with the international secretary of fashion from le roi gallery by 1pm and meeting with the board of directors planned by Mr Rashad few minutes ago" he said
" That man is evil" he said as he look at the time on his wristwatch
"I have few hours to go " he said and went by to his office to revised some documents
By 2pm at Shelly's restaurant...
" It's a pleasure doing affairs with you " the secretary said after the lunch was over
"The pleasure is mine..our collection will be ready by the next two weeks. " Sebastian assured as he stood up and shook hands with him .
He left the restaurant for the office to attend the board of directors meeting. He arrived and saw commotion in his office. David rushed up to him
"Sir...the old men are angry" David said in one breath
" What happened during my absence?" Sebastian asked calmly.
"Mr Rashad wants you to leave the post of CEO " David says and Sebastian chuckled
"Poor him" he said still smiling
Miranda's rush in...
*She's also a shareholder*
"Hey brother .. what's wrong with Uncle ?" She asked
"Let's go see" he replied and made his way to the meeting room. Few minutes the others joined him .
" Good afternoon" they greeted in unison
"Who the hell decided to render my company into a market place ?" He asked still calm
" I did .." Mr Rashad spoke
"And who gave you the guts?" Sebastian snapped at him
"As a shareholder and old friend of your father " Rashad answered as he stood up to speak
"Sirs... We all have family to cater for and our source of income is this company" he declared as others nodded
"Sebastian lost his wife months ago and didn't bother to take care of the company ...what if we went bankrupt?" He asked rhetorically
" I took charge " Miranda snapped at him
"And he's back" she affirmed and wink at her brother who winked back
" Sebastian is a widower and he can't take care of the company"
"We need someone as the head of a family to be the head of the company too" he said looking around for support
"As long as you're not married we'll need a new CEO " he added and people supported him
"Are you done ?" Sebastian asked nonchalantly and Mr Rashad sat down with a smug smile
"After hearing what you said I'll love to read the terms and conditions my father made when he was the CEO " he says looking at others icily.
He cleared his throat and began :
"On behalf of myself and my family.. I Paul Gray ,CEO of CHIC group of companies imposed and ordered that after my demise, my only son Sebastian Gray take full charge of my position and accept Miranda Gray to support him in terms of being interim CEO on his absence .They only have the right to take care and make decisions in the company. Anyone who opposed this shall pay a fine of 5000USD or shall be reported to the authorities according to what my son decides. Date: 19/01/1990. Signed by CEO Gray .
Everyone was shocked and dumbfounded especially Mr Rashad who looked as if he saw a ghost. Sebastian smirked and look at them
"Should I read again ?" He asked sarcastically
"No" they replied in unison as they apologize to him .Mr Rashad was glued to his chair and his face fell. He stood up abruptly and left the room .
The others follow suit throwing tantrums at him. Only Miranda and David were with Sebastian and they laughed
"Nice shot brother !" Miranda said amidst laughter .
"That was a bang boss" David said and Sebastian smiled
" Miranda how about the task I asked you ?" He asked
"Ohhh...I got someone I'll bring her to your office Tomorrow " she answers and picked her purse .
"I've got to go...love you brother" she says pecking his cheeks .
"Bye sis" he muttered and left for his office as David trailed behind him.
