Chapter 50: "Willow?"

Willow went quiet at the question and lowered her head.

"I see," he responded. "It really is such a shame."

Yet another few seconds of silence filled the air between the two of them.

"What did the boy do that I didn't? What does he have that I don't? I gave you everything and then you run away like this is some fairytale," letting out a sigh, "life is such a joke."

"I'm sorry."

"Sorry? You're sorry?! That's all you have to say for yourself?" Becoming enraged the king pounded his closed fist on the arm of his throne. "At least look me in the eyes. Or can you not even do that anymore?"

At that remark, Willow realized that she hadn't actually looked her king in the eyes even once.

As if a spell was cursed on her Willow sluggishly rose her eyes to meet him.

When their eyes finally met all Willow saw was anger. Pure anger.

There was no look of loss, betrayal, or sadness, but the rather unturned rage that was meant for her.

"You haven't changed," Willow whispered.

Looking at the girl before him the king answered, "people don't change."

Willow stared into the eyes of the king who was tense on the throne. She could see how nervous he was. She had been with him so long she knew everything about him more than he probably even knew about himself.

"It seems that what you say is true. I have yet to meet a person who can change themselves but I have to hold on hope." A sad yet stern expression could be seen on Willows's face. It was as if she lived multiple lives and her wisdom was guiding her to keep hope for a better future.

"Then why are you with-"

Cutting off the king mid-sentence Willow continued, uncaring of the disrespect, "but even if people don't change, there is one person who will change the world to meet his needs rather than remain stuck in what we call fate."

She slowly began to approach the king taking a couple of steps at a time while continuing her monologue, "the boy I am with, he is different. I can sense it… no I know it. He will break free from the chains that contain all of us. He is different and he will create something beautiful. Whether it be destruction or creation, what he makes of the world will be his own."

Now only a step or two away from the man she served with all her life just a couple of years ago Willow finished with, "unlike you who remains a slave to others he is free."

Shaking from rage at Willow's words he spat, "brat I'll show that kid a power he's never seen before and I'll have him trembling before me!"

"No, no you won't," Willow said quietly with a voice full of certainty. "He will be your downfall."

Now face to face with the man she worshiped what felt like a lifetime ago Willow just smiled, "goodbye Kealen."

A couple of minutes ago

With the last soldier being held up by the neck I easily crushed it ending his life.

All around me were the bodies of hundreds of soldiers who didn't even put up a threat to my life.

Even beings who were extremely close to becoming level 100 were nothing to me.

Some were dressed better than others and were level 99 but like their subordinates, they all died pitifully.

With every last warrior dead I turned back towards the door I had entered to get into the room.

Still laying there was the busted-down door I had kicked open.

Walking down the hallway in the direction I had pointed Willow to go towards, I moved at a slow pace.

There was no worry on my mind, I knew Willow would be able to fend for herself plus she had the ability which would keep her alive if the king tried anything. Thus, I admired the tacky scenery while making my way over.

Then minutes later after following the trail that Willow took that had many turns, I arrived in front of a highly decorated door.

Mindlessly I pushed it open to meet the man who would be the final boss.

As the door exploded off its hinges and the jewels that made it up blew into pieces with a simple touch of my finger I was met with a concerning scene.

"What on Hive happened in here?" I asked no one in particular while looking all around the room.

In the center was a throne covered in shiny objects with a king who had an equally shiny crown covered in blood. Then below him was a body with a sword protruding out of its chest.

"Willow?" The person who was laid at the feet of the king was Willow who had a sword that went through her stomach and out her back.

The king who was seated before her was shaking and mumbling something to himself.

It took me a moment to realize what had happened. Willow, the girl who I had spent the last couple of days with was stabbed and bleeding out.

"Hey, Willow, stop playing around," I voiced out but no response came from her. "This isn't funny!"

Unlatching my eyes from her body I turned my attention to the man covered in blood, "what the fuck did you do? What did you do!"

I was seething in rage.

Numbing incoherently I could just make out a single phrase that he was saying over and over, "I didn't do it, I didn't do it, I didn't…"

Having no idea what he was rambling on about I asked for a real answer, "what do you mean you didn't do it? Look at her!" I roared pointing to what looked to be her lifeless body. "You're trying to tell me you didn't do that?!"

Tears began to flood down the king's face and his voice quaked and quivered as he finally explained what had happened, "she… she stabbed herself."

After barely getting the words out he laid his head in his hands as sobs filled the room.
