Chapter 75: 5.9 Dào pearl
Bane had to salvage the situation, Although he didn't expect the course of the story to change like this. But it was okay, He said with confidence, "Master Calian, are you showing sympathy to the dragons? Even if he was a young dragon, he was capable of causing ruin. If I hadn't delt with him then the kingdom would be in loss. Are you perhaps in favor of that Master Calian?"
Shu XinYi smirked as he said, "If I remember correctly, My Leige has informed me that it was your father who acquired this tooth, not you. Why would you lie about this? Are you perhaps rebelling?"
Everyone in the council also remembered this crucial information. Bane did seem to have said something like that. Bane felt like he was being trapped by Calian's words, and he was unable to escape. He said after a thought, "I don't want to hold much value for myself, I want to live life as an unknown. Is this rebellious behavior My Leige?"
If it was the original story Levay, he would have never said what he said now, "A lie is still a lie. I won't allow untrustworthy people in my council. Your recently acquired position in the council is hereby compromised, Mr.Bane. If the council holds any complains about my treatment as unfair, then please show yourself to my study with appropriate evidence."
Shu XinYi wasn't surprised by Levay's behavior, it was all about who you had around you that shape you. In the original story it was Bane, and now it's Shu XinYi. The difference was clear.
The council members couldn't produce a voice out of their throats. But Shu XinYi spoke up, "There is one more thing I am concerned about My Leige. If it really was a baby dragon that he killed, then how can we trust his method of killing the dragons as accurate? Young ones are easy to manipulate, and physically weak after all. Unless Mr.Bane can prove that a fully grown dragon can be killed using the same method, I redeem him and his findings useless."
Bane was frustrated at this point, the council members had began to doubt him and his position was also compromised. Why was Calian asking so many questions, does any of it even matter? You have a reason and the methods to start a war, so do it. Either way, Bane decided to salvage this situation first. Even if he said that he had killed 2 grown dragons, it wouldn't matter. The dragons weren't actually going to peacefully investigate the death of the second prince after all, they would start a war in a few weeks if the timeline goes correctly.
After solving his dilemmas, Bane decided to confess, "There is no need for that. I have already killed 2 fully grown dragons in the southern forests. Before Master Calian claims me as rebellious, I should say; the reason why I didn't mention this before is because I have minimal evidence for this claim. Except for these marks left by the dragons human form, and the small ruin in the southern forest, I have no other evidence." Bane showed the gruesome claw marks on his hands and legs.
The council was in awe of Bane's bravery. He seemed really confident with his claims. It seemed that even a search party was sent to investigate the southern forest, they would actually find the aftermath of a fight.
Shu XinYi was impressed by Bane's stupidity, well he did have a reason to be this stupid. He said in his usual tone of polite and calm, "Mr.Bane, if this really was the case then you should have said so before. After all, killing adult dragons is a lot different then killing a young dragon. I am sorry for my rude claims. I want to ask the council, if they want to investigate the southern forest or not?"
The council gave their opinions one by one and in the end Bane's words were regarded as the absolute truth. Mostly because Shu XinYi and Levay didn't question anything.
After the meeting was over, a new request was applied to retake Bane into the council, by various council members. Shu XinYi headed back to the study with Levay.
"How is the training coming along?" Levay questioned placing today's reports on the table.
"The princes are very perceptive and patient. Yuè more then Zither. Obviously Zither is more combative even though he has a smaller build. Both of them do well together to keep up with each other's flaws." Shu XinYi said with a bow.
Levay was not worried about leaving his sons with Calian, he said, "That's good. Why didn't you question Bane any further? Do you trust him or are you expecting a certain outcome?"
Shu XinYi said, "My Leige, Bane has killed 2 dragons, I believe him. But I don't trust him. My leige, let me ask. If an elf from your land went to the dragon kingdom for whatever reason, and was killed or kidnapped during his visit; How would My Leige respond?"
Shu XinYi had asked this question to give context about what the current situation with Bane and the dragons was. But Levay reacted strangely, he looked guilty. Shu XinYi had seen the same guilt appear on Saye's face a lot of times. Levay even softly said, "I am sorry."
Shu XinYi wanted to question what exactly happened, but Levay continued to say, "Your mother cared for me a lot, I really don't deserve to be a king."
Shu XinYi had to ask, "My Leige, pardon this subject. But I don't understand. Did you know my mother?"
To Calian, his mother had been the village lady who cleaned pavements for a living, and made him soft breads everyday. Her mother was no more then a women moving from village to village. But for such a simple women, was it possible to commit such a grave sin that not only herself but the baby in her womb had also turned into a dark elf? There was obviously more to the story.
Levay sighed in remorse, "It is not my place to tell you. Nor do I have the courage to tell you."
Shu XinYi was irritated, "So should I just ignore your words and move on with my life. My mother had lived like a soulless, deathless body. I never understood why was it that she was like that. Never understood why I was like this. The world resented us, many still do. How do you expect me to just move on from this, My Leige? It pains me to this day, My Leige. Even if it is just a little, I want to know my mother. I promise to just walk away after hearing you."
Obviously it was Calian who had gone through this pain, but Shu XinYi had to say those words. There were a few people who actually knew what happened in the past. One was Saye, but Shu XinYi wouldn't say all this to him, ever. His amnesiac husband takes too much blame on himself as is. But Levay was different, Shu XinYi could guilt him just enough, for Levay to tell about the past.
Levay took out an old book from the shelf and took out a flower bookmark saying while admiring it, "Your mother made this for me. She took care of me when I was younger. I remember her as happy and cheerful. She was just like you, devoted to the kingdom and the king. She would do anything for them. Even if it meant risking her own life. If only I was capable enough to be recognized by the God's as the king, nothing like this would have transpired. I am still not a true king, neither will I ever be. I am not blessed by the Dào pearl."
Shu XinYi didn't reply, instead he asked for Snow to comprehend.
Snow obliged, "Dào pearl is like a stamp from Gods. A stamp saying that you are certified to be a king, by the Gods. But the pearl is like any regular pearl. Unless it comes in contact with the destined king, the pearl won't react. Every once in 50 years a new king is born, and so the Gods send down 7 Dào pearls for each the kingdom of the 7. 2 of them being the elven and dragon kingdom, who are also the most powerful. Meaning that the pearl sent to them is also very powerful, giving exceptional powers to the chosen king. Levay wasn't chosen by the Dào pearl as the king, and later the Elven kingdom lost the Dào pearl. So inherently, Leavy was made a king after the 2nd king's death. Before you ask, the dragon pearl and Dào pearl are different things. Every dragon has a dragon pearl, unlike the Dào pearl."
Shu XinYi just questioned himself, so how did the Elevn kingdom lose something as important as a Dào pearl? Did Calian's mother made it possible? Where exactly is this lost Dào pearl of the Elven kingdom now? Shu XinYi had to find these answers. He didn't want to miss out on the past events, it was better to be in the know.
"Thankyou for sharing these words with me My Leige. Today I learned a lot. If not for you, I would have never known. Allow me, My Leige. I won't keep you occupied for any longer." Shu XinYi said as he bowed and left. He didn't want to burden Levay with anymore guilt.
