Chapter 10: 10 - Coby
William walked towards the cabin while trying to wipe the blood from his clothes.
Coby peaked at his figure and could not help but shiver in fear. His chubby small legs were quivering rapidly and he tried his best to hold his breath. Too bad William had already noticed him.
" Come out ! It's no use hiding anymore .." William stopped and heard a sound of something falling on the floor.
He immediately looked at the thing and was speechless when he found Coby on the floor with miserable expression and tears running down on his face.
' Am I that scary? '
William shrugged and punched Coby lightly in his gut. That pink brat had almost suffocated from holding his breath for so long.
Cough .. Cough..
Coby's figure shot up and he started coughing violently. His face immediately paled when he saw Wiliam crowching right next to him.
" Brat ! Dont worry , I wont kill you. Such a scaredy cat like you cannot be a pirate and I only kill pirates and other bad people.."
" Really?"
" Really! " William looked into Coby's eyes and nodded with a smile. " So what the heck are you doing on a pirate ship anyway, kid? "
Coby became depressed after hearing the question. " I... I got on the wrong boat while fishing and got kidnapped by Alvida. She made me her chore boy and.. *sniff*.."
William immediately interrupted the kid as he was in no mood to watch him cry. He gave a shoulder pat to Coby and said " Well , no need to say it anymore kid. Alvida is already dead and I will take you with me on a merchant ship. Then you can ask them to give you a ride to your hometown. Come on let's move.."
William helped Coby stand and both of them started walking out of the cabin slowly. While William was looking all over the ship to assess its approximate selling price , Coby held his head down as he could not forget the sight of blood spewing when William was cutting pirates with his sword like vegetables.
Actualy it had not even been one month since he was kidnapped by Alvida so Coby had not experienced much bloodshed yet. The scene of William killing Alvida Pirates with complete indifference in his eyes towards their lives , was too much for his childish mentality.
Suddenly William stopped as he felt that Coby bumped into him. " Oi kid! look forward while walking.. " William stopped mid sentence when he saw Coby looking at Alvida's fat corpse with blank look on his face.
" Ne Wiliam san, you are a bounty hunter , right? "
" That's right. "
" Then why did you not capture Alvida and her crew alive?"
William could not help but release a sigh as he looked at the kid who was feeling pity for Alvida even though she kidnapped him and forced him to live like a slave in fear.
It was a good question though because capturing and handing over pirates alive to the marines was more profitable as the reward was 30% lesser than the bounty if the pirate was dead.
William loved more money but still he killed the pirates because he was disgusted by them. Besides it was not a guarantee that they wont break out from the prison and target his loved ones for taking revenge. William did not want any harm falling on Makino and other villagers of Foosha village due to his actions.
William explained this reasoning to Coby but the boy still did not look like he was fully convinced.
" Still I believe that everyone deserves a second chance after serving in the prison for their crimes. "
William shook his head and decided not to explain anything else to this kid. It was clear to William that Coby only looked Marines as the righteous heroes and had no idea about the truth.
Pirates are evil and marines are justice. This was truth for the general masses in this world. The marines captured pirates alive for public execution. Then they spread propaganda to general public. This method was good because most of the new recruits join navy in the Blue Seas after being impressed by Marine propaganda.
Wiliam could care less about Marines though as he knew the truth that they are essentially just dogs of World Government and Celestial Dragons.
From the looks of it , Coby will join marines in future maybe earlier this time. William thought that it was best that he experienced the gray side of this world himself in future. After seeing is better than just listening. It would be up to Coby whether he can remain in marines after seeing the truth in future or not. Anyway it had nothing to do with William.
Wiliam just quietly sat on the deck as he looked Jagger's ship in distance which had stopped now and was waiting for him. After the battle was over , William had fired a flare which was signal decided by them. So they already knew that they were safe now.
Coby could not help but burst out in tears when he swept the merchant ship in distance. All the pent up anxiety he should have felt on the pirare ship was starting being slowly washed away. Wiliam just let the kid cry as it was best to not bottle up such feelings inside your heart.
The encounter with Alvida Pirates was unexpected but it was over now. William could finaly restart the journey towards Stone island and he could not wait to sell all the gold and silver at the black market there. Sure the price would be lesser than normal market price but who cares as long as William could gather enough money to purchase Uchiha bloodline from system shop. William planned to sell Alvida's ship to Jagger for extra money so the encounter was not a waste of his time.
