Chapter 36 – Glass' Sudden Appearance

"I-I can help you, Glass." Therese stuttered, spitting out a tooth in the process.
"You have done enough, Therese. You are too injured to continue."
With a wave of her fan, L'Arc's horribly injured body was lifted into the air. Therese barely caught him, dragging him to the bow of the boat.
"Naofumi." I encouraged. "We can win this fight. It's two parties versus one person."
"Yeah! I believe that we will win!"
"Indigo. It's time for Operation Shatter."
"Are you sure, Satoshi?" Indigo asked sarcastically.
"Charge, Indigo!"
Indigo charged headfirst at Glass, as fast as he could. As the latter raised her fan and sent a gust of wind in Indigo's direction, the latter turned around and used Zweite Tornado to escape the fight scene. Within seconds, he was gone.
"Ha." Glass sneered. "So, there are the loyal allies you have."
"Rojeel? Eda? Welst?"
The three of them were nowhere to be seen.
"Rishia? Are you still there?"
The green-haired girl was on a paddle boat, navigating her way towards one of the other ships in the fleet.
Naofumi patted me on the back.
"Satoshi, I know firsthand how betrayal feels like. Don't worry, you'll get through this."
I mustered a few tears.
"I couldn't believe they'd all do such a thing. After all the time I spent with them. I expected Rojeel, Eda and even Welst to leave, but Indigo? He was like a son to me. He was like the brother I never had. And Rishia. I didn't think there was a person more loyal than her."
Glass was having a blast.
"Naofumi. Will you stay by my side?"
"Most definitely."
"Yeah!" Raphtalia cheered. "We must repay you for all you've done for us!"
"If master wants to help you, Filo will too!"
Motoyasu and Ren approached us with their parties in tow.
"I know we all have our differences, but we would like to help too. We must defeat Glass and save the world."
"It's nice to see you've all come to your senses. Now then, may the battle commence!"
As I barely finished my sentence, Glass immediately launched an attack on us.
"Air Strike Shield!"
"Shield Prison!"
"Soul Eater Bow!"
Naofumi blocked her attack while encasing himself and his party with the Shield Prison.
"Ugh!"
Glass winced upon being hit by my Soul Eater Bow. Looks like it was pretty effective.
Strange. This must mean she's not human. How else would she have such an unusual reaction?
"Naofumi!" I exclaimed. "She's not human!"
"I've been thinking so too. I've had my doubts, but I'll trust you on this one."
"Alright. Arrow Rain!"
Arrows rained upon Glass, forcing her to take cover behind the mast.
"Filo!" Naofumi commanded. "Kick her fan!"
"Naofumi." I grabbed him and pulled him aside. "Evacuate the boat. Now."
"Why?"
"Just trust me! I have a secret plan!"
Naofumi and Raphtalia proceeded to get people off the ship. I just had to hold on for 3 minutes.
"Take that! Eagle Piercing Shot!"
"Circle Dance Zero Formation," Glass chanted. "Reverse Snow Moon Flower!"
The tremendous Glass dislodged me from my feet. I dug my bow into the deck, desperately clinging on.
"Shooting Star Arrow!"
"Circle Dance Rupture Formation, Tortoise Shell Cracker!"
The powerful attack whipped me into the air. I did a backflip and landed on the next ship over. Looking around, I had noticed that Naofumi had successfully evacuated everyone, including the queen.
Pfeewwwww!
Ten barrels soared through the air, aiming directly at Glass.
"Arrow Rain!" I cried.
Right before the barrels hit Glass' ship's deck, the arrows that I fired hit each one dead on, causing them to explode and burst midair.
Glass braced herself, but it was pointless.
The whole area was filled with the smell of rucolu fruit and a thick red mist."
"What is this?"
Glass was stumbling around, covering her face with her sleeve and drowsily falling over.
"Good job, guys!" I complimented.
"Thanks, Satoshi!" Indigo, Rishia, and the other party members replied.
"What?" Naofumi asked. "I thought they abandoned you!"
"It was all part of my plan, Operation Shatter. I'll explain later, but let's take care of Glass right now."
"Got it."
"Wait a second," I spoke as I pulled out a rough fabric face covering with goggles and a charcoal tube. "Put this on your faces."
"What is this?"
"I'm still developing gas masks, but this is the most basic one you could possibly make. It should keep your eyes and noses safe from the rucolu fruit."
"Thanks. I don't need it but give it to Raphtalia."
"Ok."
Since my party members already had the masks on, they paddled over to Glass' ship and began ruthlessly pummeling her with attacks.
"Naofumi! We gotta hurry, or she'll recover!"
"We're heading over right now!"
I stayed on the ship, firing arrow after arrow in Glass' vicinity. She was not taking the ruthless assault very well.
Barely making things out, I could see Therese slowly making her way towards the battered Glass, with L'Arc limping behind her.
She shouted something to Glass, and then she threw a gemstone down, exploding as she made her escape.
Then, the wave timer hit zero.
After assessing the damage and rescuing sailors that were flopping in the water, we headed back to Cal Mira. Motoyasu and Ren's parties were resting in the hospital, since they were badly beaten and bruised.
"To think there is such power in the world." Queen Mirellia lamented. "We must find a way to defeat them."
I didn't want to give away too many state secrets, so a small mention should be fine.
"I am currently developing some "Wonder Weapons" which will hopefully be useful against enemies which are much more powerful."
"Good to hear. Hopefully we will see their use in the upcoming waves."
Truth be told, these "Wonder Weapons" would not be in commission for a few more months. By then, hopefully we would be much more powerful ourselves.
"Naofumi." The queen continued. "I have heard that you do not get drunk from the rucolu."
"Yeah." I contributed. "If I had known that earlier, maybe I could have better defended you against Malty-I mean Swine's false rape accusation."
"I was too heated up at the moment. I am very grateful that you have defended me during both trials though."
"That's the least that I could do."
During the aftermath of the fight, I had thought of a few possible reasons of Glass' and L'Arc's appearances in this world. They either wanted to invade it, gain our power, or destroy it. At the moment, I still did not know their true intentions, or motives for any of the three reasons.
"Since Cal Mira is still in the midst of the activation event, what would you all like to do?"
"I think we'll head back to Melromarc pretty soon." Naofumi expressed.
"I want to grind a bit more." I spoke. "I found a new strategy to gain more levels, and even though we already passed the level cap, I would like to try it out for just a bit longer."
"Very well. Naofumi, I shall arrange for a ship to transport you and your party back to Lola very soon, when the waves are less rough. Satoshi, I shall also arrange for a ship to transport you at a later date."
"I appreciate the thought. However, there is no need. Captain Speedy will transport us."
"If you say so, then that is fine."
Naofumi and I walked out of the room, discussing what had just happened just a while before.
I was super tired, and just wanted a break from all the fighting. I am a man that values his jobs and responsibilities more than anyone else, but I am only human after all. I had a golden idea.
"Naofumi. I hear that there are really good hot springs here. Wanna take a soak?"
"Sure. I'm super tired as well. Should we head there right now?"
"Yep." I said as I nudged Naofumi. "Also, you can spend some quality time with the missus."
"What are you hinting at?" Naofumi blushed.
"You know who I'm talking about. She must be really eager to please you."
Naofumi punched me in the gut.
"Nonsense! She's like a daughter to me!"
"Whatever you say."
The baths were Japanese styled and open air, with bamboo accents and the such.
Eda, Welst and Rishia went over to the women's side, the latter quite shy and refusing to wear a bathing suit, while Rojeel, Naofumi and myself chilled over in the men's side. Indigo was preparing to go over to the women's side.
"Indigo! You can't go over there."
Suddenly, he transformed into his filolial king form.
"It says no men allowed, but what about animals?"
"Fine. Go do what you want."
"Hey! No fair!" Motoyasu complained. "I wanna go too!"
"You womanizer." I splashed him with the spring water.
Ahh. The vacation life was amazing. I only had one night to enjoy myself, but that's better than nothing.
