Chapter 20: ANBU vs Grindlewald
Grindlewald moved through the passages destroying wards one by one with his elder wand. No ward could resist much against the power of The Elder Wand.
Finally, he reached the last door. This one was made by Mythril, Mythril was one of the hardest metals discovered to date and its availability was close to nill.
Grindlewald raised his hand with the wand high up above, Magic could visibly be seen gathering, onto the tip of his wand. And then formed a large fireball something close to a miniature sun, He then released it on the door, and it hit producing a large explosion.
But the door still didn't budge, so as a last resort, he made a cut in his finger and dropped a blood drop onto the lock, and then chanted in some runic language.
"Isla vara teca Baaba son Kim dan shi om Shanti om".
The blood drop evaporated and the door showed runic symbols running throughout its outer layout. Grindlewald screamed but remained firm. Sometime later a hum sounded and the door opened.
Grindlewald didn't look in a good state as he had red eyes and sweat on his face. He looked as if he had a severe case of constipation. But he still smiled and announced " ANBU surrender, I have come for the key, give it to me and I may leave you to live rest of your life freely".
There was no reply. Grindlewald sneers and produces a flame tsunami from the right side of the room going through the center and then to the left.
The whole room sizzles but there was one place that had a dome-like opaque structure that was not affected by the fire.
From inside it came flying out a dark curse that could knot your intestines million times.
It was an intermediate level of dark curse and requires moderate power. Typical for someone who doesn't believe in the 'one-hit kill' tactic.
Grindlewald deflects it and fires a red boiling curse in retaliation which had a special shield penetrating effect. But alas It couldn't penetrate as the shield just absorbed the curse and used its power to strengthen itself.
If dumbledore were to see this, he would be shocked as this was a special curse passed down generation by generation in the Dumbledore family and it had never failed to shatter any shield. But now not only this opaque shield remains intact but it also absorbs the power in the curse.
Grindelwald furrows his brows in worry. He didn't expect this to happen. It seemed like the old man had done ample preparation to protect the key. As expected of its guardian.
Grindlewald had some hypotheses that he wanted to test so he made a cut in his fingers and made a circular formation on the ground. Then he proceeded to stand inside it and chant a five-minute-long incantation.
But his opponent didn't remain idle in that time, He fired many dark curses and even threw in some light ones in between to check if it only protected against the dark ones or not but the circle was a shield that protected Grindelwald from every curse other than the killing or Patronus.
Grindlewald was sure that ANBU will not directly take someone's life because it was an oath he read about in an ancient tomb, that the protector of the keys must never directly take someone's life ie. the AVADA KEDAVRA, but could still use offensive spells and curses which don't directly take out the soul from the body as observed in the case of killing curse.
His opponent was now getting desperate as it fired a variety of life-threatening curses. He probably knew that the spell Grindlewald was chanting will break his shield for sure.
At last, the incantation ended. But now Grindelwald couldn't be inside the circle to fire it.
He came out and fired a golden spell at the shield but at the same time, a dark black curse also hit him originating from the opaque shield.
The golden spell busted the opaque shield and the man inside was flung backward by the residual impact of the golden spell.
The man was looking as if he was in his seventies, his white hair now dyed red by the blood and he wore ancient wizarding robes, those too torn from some places from the previous impact.
He coughed a lot of blood and said in a raspy voice
"That curse will weaken you gradually and then one day you will become a squib, more you use the magic the faster the process. You may have defeated me, but the real key is with master". At this moment something happened which even Grindelwald didn't expect, The old man turned into another younger man with black hair and blue eyes. He then sneered at Grindelwald showing that at the end even if he died, the real victory was his, not Grindelwald's.
He then closed his eyes and his soul left his body.
Grindlewald was so furious that he blasted the whole room. It was the accidental and wandless magic of this scale, which showed how much power he had. But this move was not in his favor as the black curse activated at this moment due to so much influx of magic and Grindelwald fainted.
