Chapter 24: First C rank mission
Kurenai led her team into the hokage's office and waited for the two teams before hers to get their missions. Hiruzen smiled seeing his surrogate grandson and his team in his office and asked kurenai which D rank mission she wanted for her team and mentioned the available Drank missions available including the infamous Capture Tora mission which he knew Kurenai regularly took to train her team's tracking skills. Hiruzen was surprised when Kurenai instead asked for a C rank bandit elimination mission as she wanted to blood her genin. Hiruzen knew that team 8' s teamwork was impeccable and that they had completed more than 250 D rank missions which was well above the minimum required in order to request a C rank mission. Hiruzen also knew that Naruto was a jounin level shinobi along with Kurenai and so could easily handle a simple bandit elimination mission and while he wanted Naruto and his teammates to maintain their innocence for a little longer he knew that it was important for their development to get used to killing. So despite the protests of Iruka who was currently helping with assigning missions and felt that the genins were not ready Hiruzen assigned team Kurenai a bandit elimination mission of a small bandit group plaguing a small agricultural village a few kilometers from konoha and Kurenai accepted the mission and instructed her team to pack for a mission of two days and meet her at the front gate in an hour. Hiruzen laughed at the expression of kurenai and Naruto teammates when Naruto said
"bye jiji, tell mom I will be back in three days", and vanished in his signature smokeless and soundless sunshine but then blanched as Naruto's words sank in and wondered how he was going to tell Kanna he had sent her son on a bandit elimination mission just three months out of the academy as he knew that Kanna was over protective of Naruto despite knowing his abilities better than anyone.
Naruto immediately shunshined back to his apartment after Kurenai sensei accepted the C rank mission and meditated for an hour and went to meet his team and sensei at the gate as he was already for a mission and didn't need to pack anything. Naruto and his teammates followed Kurenai sensei as she led the way to the village that was being targeted by the bandits at chunin speed so as to not tire out Hinata and Ino.
Naruto and his team reached the village by evening and Kurenai sensei talked to the village elder who had requested the mission and found out that there were nearly fifty bandits with a few rogue samurai among them. Kurenai sensei had us perform reconnaissance of the camp constructed by the bandits and told us to wait for the bandits to fall asleep and then to launch our attack.
As soon as most of the bandits fell asleep except for a few sentries Kurenai had Naruto launch the Hidden Mist Jutsu and using the cover of the mist Kurenai had her genin team attack the bandits but she did not participate as she wanted them to learn to handle themselves. Kurenai saw Naruto using his Mastery over the Shunshin jutsu to silently appear behind the bandits and silently slit their throat with his sword while Hinata was using her personal fluid Taijutsu style to strike the vital points of the bandits killing a bandit with each strike while Ino was using her poisoned senbon and Great fireball jutsu to kill the bandits.
As soon as the bandits were all eliminated Ino and Hinata rushed to a bush and were puking out the contents of their stomachs as it was the first time they had killed anything much less a human and were feeling sick watching all the carnage and blood bath they had wrought after Naruto dispersed his Hidden mist jutsu. Kurenai took them aside and told them that this was the reality of being a shinobi and showed them the women that the bandits had kidnapped and raped including some small girls who were chained inside the camp of the bandits and told that killing these bandits had likely prevented them from commiting such atrocities again. Kurenai had Naruto heal the women and girls as best as he could and had her team set up their camp some distance from the destroyed bandit camp after Naruto used Earth release: Earth land flip to bury the bandit camp along with all the bodies. Naruto had his clones keep watch over their camp as everyone slept and also set up some barrier seals around the camp.
The next morning Kurenai and her team escorted the kidnapped women and the girls along with the stolen valuables to their village and handed over the women and valuables to the village elder and returned to konoha and reported the success of the mission to the Hokage who was pleased with the performance of the young genin.
