Chapter 29: Prototype completed(edited)
The rest of the month passed quickly and soon it was Monday of the final week of the month.
Kona's training has progressed, but I can't say she is capable enough to become a representative candidate. In order to become one, you need to have a high affinity for the IS in general.
The affinity goes from E rank to A rank, but there is the S rank which is mostly given when someone's affinity is absolutely perfect for their IS, or it can't be measured. Pretty much everyone who has an exclusive unit is on A rank. I am currently A, but that is just from a general perspective. There might be some cores that have a better affinity with me or just worse ones. Affinity can also be increased with training but that is very hard.
Kanzashi's IS has been finished and it is on a trial fase, and I must say, it is a hell of an IS. Thanks to all of the data I acquired, I managed to implement a prototype fourth-generation extendable armor. Making her IS a 3.5 to 4 generation model. Plus all of the other experimental packages I installed, her IS is among the best of the best in the academy, If not the world. Considering that, at this time, there aren't many 4 generation models, if any.
And recently I feel as if I am being watched. At least, that is what a clone said to me. Hence I always try to go and check all sorts of surveillance around the school, but I never found the reason why. My guess is between Phantom task and the Sarashiki family, which is a family that fights secretly against the Phantom task. (Mostly because of my interaction with Kanzashi)
After a lot of trial and error, Cecilia's food has become decent, reaching a point where someone won't get sick from eating it.
She also noticed my golden ant in the terrarium in my room, asking where I acquired such a specimen and which species is it.
I couldn't really answer her question but I said that it was a rarely mutated ant from the Amazon rainforest.
Somehow the rumor that I had a pet ant got around school soon after and I was bombarded with requests to see the ant. Eventually, I just brought the ant with me from time to time on my shoulder.
The golden ant was surprisingly tame but what surprised me the most was its intelligence(compared to other ants that is)
I even attracted the attention of Griffin Redram, the candidate from Brazil.
As for the suspicion from others? Who cares? No one can exert any sort of influence here. And who in their right mind would prosecute someone because of an ant?
More on that later.
During the week many girls came to me to ask to be my partner but I turned them down saying I had yet to decide on someone.
There were even some people from other years who came to me, not to be my partner but simply to make connections. I didn't know if they appeared in the original series though, there are simply too many countries, and it's impossible for an author to develop a candidate for each of them. I never read the full series, nor did I ever play the games, so I don't know their contents.
They are out there, but almost every year we see a candidate rise. Like Cecilia's case who has a veteran candidate in the second year.
I also had one of my clones help Ichika train from time to time, much to his surprise.
-You are already full of stuff to do, are you sure you can just waste time with me?
-You shouldn't worry about me, rather, you should focus on your terrible piloting skills. So pick up your sword again and strike the targets.
I helped my friends, tested some new things, and simply enjoyed my school life. Well, my clones did.
During all this, my original body was in the factory testing and creating new things.
I don't know everything from the series. I don't know if in the end something stronger than a Fourth generation appears. What I do know is that it's possible to build an IS with two cores.
That might sound strange considering that a core has its own consciousness, but it did happen to create Rein Carnation.
It's also possible to create an IS that can be piloted by two people, but I am even more clueless on that side. But that is from the game, and my knowledge about the games is very thin. I might have already seen a character from the games but yet I didn't recognize her. I tried looking through the student files but didn't recognize anyone.
But that isn't my focus right now. All of my efforts are on the first prototype. But after building this, I have reached a wall. I have completed the prototype but something is missing. That's why I will take some time after the tournament to "borrow" some knowledge from other countries. Perhaps even go and collect my IS back?
The design I chose was that of a multi-purpose IS, Having long and close combat capabilities, being able to support others to a decent degree, and having a series of small abilities. Putting all of that in one single model is already hard, even if I use compression technology, but the energy cost is simply too great. I have many ways to fix that, but most of them aren't practical. And the ones that can be done will take some time.
The problem is the core itself as it has its own limitations. Since every core has its own "preferences" it might react differently depending on what I do.
From time to time I would go and have a break just to relax. I went to one side of the academy and saw many of the students during their club's activities. I saw many forms and shapes of IS, sometimes even participating in casual activities with my friends.
But the final week passed quickly and the tournament came. But I didn't choose a partner. Cecilia couldn't participate due to the heavy damage her IS took, so my choice ended up being Kanzashi, but I was surprisingly turned down.
-I want to-to prove to you that I am not useless! I can carry my own weight too! You already helped me too much. But I can't give you anything in return yet! So let me prove to you that your help wasn't misplaced. She said her line with a lot of effort, but when she finished it she looked relieved.
During the time I helped her, our relationship has improved, mostly because my IS was stolen, which made her sympathize with me, but I just see her as a little sister as of now.
-Annd she's gone. I looked at the running girl.
-So. Who will be my partner?
-Fuck it, let it be random.
After tomorrow will be the first day of the new month. We had until today to give the pair application.
-I will just say to Chifuyu that I will leave it to fate. That might be interesting…
What I didn't notice (Or rather didn't care, as I am being watched by girls every day), is that in a corner, a girl with a modified uniform heard everything. That was Honne Nohotoke, Kanzashi's maid.
-That's… Top tier gossip!
The next day I went to class normally(by myself and not some clone). Today, school seemed rather... quiet for some reason. Class seemed to end faster than normal. When the bell rang, all of the girls from year one rushed to the canteen. Ichika looked at me, and I looked at him. This time both of us were confused.
I should go and see the camera feed later to understand what is happening better.
I didn't leave my clones watching the cameras at all times since it was a waste of resources as nothing really happened.
Only when something like this happened would I go and check.
The best way to find out is simply to go and see no?
In the canteen, all of the girls seemed to look at the large monitors on the ceiling.
When the time hit a perfect 12:30 a message was suddenly shown.
"The partner of Miyoshi Seiichi has been determined"
Ahhh so that was what all of this was about. But, shouldn't that only be said on the day of the tournament? The screen then changed to a box that was slowly opening, revealing… nothing.
-Miyoshi Seiichi's partner is no one, as his IS operating skills have been determined to be way over the line. And on that note, the student council has decided to give the students who defeat him a special reward!
The group who managed to defeat him will be allowed to stay in his room from now on! Said the voice behind the monitor.
That bitch(student council president)… Sometimes I wonder just how much power the student council actually has.
As I frowned the monitor many of the girls around me started to gaze at me fiercely.
When I came to this school I only thought that these sorts of situations would only happen to Ichika but it seems that I will have to go through them too. This is good too, as I can test just how good my Mech really is.
At night back in my factory.
