Chapter 2: The Wolfe

Dr Paul Carlisle enters a meeting room amongst the other high up doctors of the facility. Each one of them were sat at the six seated table in the room. Paul approaches a chair.

"Ahh, Dr Carlisle. We have just been discussing the interviews set in place this afternoon." One of the men explained as Paul sat down in his chosen seat.

"Average people who have witnessed Subjects?" Paul replied as he shuffled his chair underneath the table.

Harold Wolfe the founder and chairman of the Test Subject Facility rose up from his seat. He interlocked his fingers together holding his hands behind him. Everyone within the meeting room immediately looked over to him. He coughed slightly to clear his chest as he stood tall at the top of the meeting table.

"I have designated this job to Dr H Carlisle and Dr L Woodward. They are to interview these people and track the last known whereabouts of these Subjects." Harold explained as he took a step away from his seat.

Paul immediately places his hand in the air to grab Harold's attention. Harold turns to Paul with a slight smirk. Paul narrowed his eyes to Harold as he wandered over towards him.

"Yes, Carlisle?" Harold sneered as he stopped before Paul's seat.

"Why are you picking MY son AGAIN?!" Paul exploded as he threw himself up from his seat.

Both Paul and Harold were face to face. So close that you could feel ones breath condensate onto your skin.

"Dr Carlisle, your son has amazing talents where this facility is concerned. After all, he will be replacing you in your position once you retire..." Harold snickered as he turned his back to Paul.

Paul sat back into his seat without replying back to Harold. He silently shuffled his seat back underneath the table. Harold walked over to his chair and stepped in front of it. As he sat down, he continued to look towards Paul and watch him with a smile upon his face.

It wasn't long until their meeting was over and it was up to Paul to tell Hunter about the job he has to do. As Paul left, he could only think about one thing... his wife, Trish. How he had promised her he would keep the kids safe and ensure no danger would come their way. It's been a year since she passed away due to safety breach in the facility.

"Carlisle!"

Paul quickly turned to where the voice came from. Standing behind him with his unnerving grin was Harold.

"What do you want?" Paul grumbled as he turned back around and continued to walk slowly.

"I know you're not happy about Hunter's placements but I can assure you, his safety is our priority." Harold continued as he walked quickly behind Paul.

Paul scoffed as he came to a stop in the corridor. Other colleagues were passing in the corridor around them.

"Sure, it is... you told me that about Trish and look what happened. I'm not interested, Harold." Paul growled as he sped off down the corridor leaving Harold stood with his arms folded in the middle of the corridor.

Hunter sat in Paul's office working from his laptop. Paul entered, unknowingly to him that Hunter was in the room.

"This is utter bullshit!" He yelled as he slammed the door shut.

Hunter slowly placed his glasses upon his head and watched his dad have an emotional meltdown.

"Why is it MY family that is being targeted?!" He continued as he punched the wall.

Hunter stood up from the chair behind the desk. Paul fell to the floor crying. The emotional trauma he suffered from his wife's incident was flooding back, like a video clip on repeat. Hunter just watched, he didn't know what to do or say. Slowly he took a deep breath and wandered over to kneel beside his father.

"Dad?" He said softly as he placed his hand upon Paul's back. Paul quickly sat up and gazed up at Hunter with tears in his eyes.

"Hunter!? I didn't expect you to be in here..." Paul shouted in shock. Hunter smirks as he sits down beside his father on the office floor.

"You told me I can use your office space anytime I need it. I needed it..." Hunter replied with a grin.

Paul quickly stood up from the floor. He turned his back immediately and wiped his tears upon his white long shirt sleeve. Hunter sat and watched his father, he hasn't seen him this upset since his mother passed away last year.

"Harold has appointed you two placements," Paul huffed as he collapsed to the floor due to the quickening of him standing. Hunter quickly knelt down next to him. Paul rested his back and head onto the door behind him. Hunter sat next to him by the door with his legs curled to his right. He rested his weight upon his left hand laying flatly on the floor next to him. Paul placed his knees up before him wrapping his hands around them.

"First job, is to do interviews with people who have witnessed Subject sightings and the other, investigating the known neighbourhoods with Dr Woodward." Paul explained as he prepared to get up from the floor.

"What the hell?!" Hunter yelled as he looked angrily towards his dad. He quickly got upon his feet and ran towards Paul's desk. Paul sat behind the desk looking to the screen of Hunter's laptop.

"I'M NOT SOME PAWN YOU KNOW!" Hunter shrieked as he slammed his hand onto Paul's desk which immediately grabbed his attention.

"I want you to stay in the labs, he has other ideas though apparently." Paul quietly spoke as he looked slowly back towards the laptop.

"So? When does it start then?" Hunter quizzed as he stood upright whilst glaring at Paul. Paul continued to read what was on the screen.

"DAD!!" Hunter yelled.

Paul quickly looked at Hunter again. Hunter looked like he had, had enough of his father's attitude at this point.

"How have you got so much information on Test-Subject-666?" Paul asked as he looked curiously towards his son.
